For years this has been our favorite place to stay when traveling in the area. We got to know the staff & management, and they got to know us. The service was excellent. The new manager, Kenan Hafovich, is terrible. We won't be returning. He wouldn't let me wife check in because he said she's not on the account. We've stayed at Marriotts 767 nights over the past 20 years, and the only other time we've had trouble checking in was at the Marriott in Beijing that required my passport, and my family arrived a day before me. His attitude was rude, not helpful. When she started to call me, he interrupted her, and with a patronizing tone, he said that he could not speak with me on the phone. Of course she needed to call me to let me know to call him. I called and verified my identity and reservation confirmation code with the lady at the front desk so that they would let me wife check in. I then asked her about this policy. She said her manager was right there, so I asked to speak with him. He could not explain why he was enforcing this policy when no one else seemed to be. After talking with him for a minute or two, I discovered that they were still not allowing my wife to check in. When I asked him why, he said that he wasn't going to let her check in until I stopped talking with him. They had already confirmed everything. There was no reason to make her wait. I told him so. He insisted that he would not check her in until I hung up. I called Marriott. They confirmed that the policy is that if I'm not present at checkin, then I need to add my wife to the reservation. I told them that they need to make it more clear on the website how to do that. They said that you can't do it on the website; you have to call Marriott for each and every reservation. Marriott's quality of service has been declining these last few years. There are still some great people working there, but there are also some who seem to have no interest in providing quality service. Poorly-designed policies don't help. After 20 years with Marriott, we're looking for a new hotel brand to frequent.
