Lovely hotel, directly off the motorway (so a car is necessary). We stayed for one night because we were going to a concert in Strathaven. The owner was a very friendly man, and the room was lovely. A huge comfortable bed, hot shower, clean linens, small toiletries, and tea/coffee in the room. We had a great stay.

When I arrived in the evening I rang the doorbell and a man came from somewhere down the road. I was given the wifi code at reception “because the wifi doesn’t reach your room”. I was in room 6, presumably the wifi doesn’t reach rooms 7;8 or any other rooms beyond what, 2? 3? Having been told that I had a quiet room at the back, I was surprised to find the motorway running just 20 yards away! Even with the window shut and hearing aids removed I could hear the lorries. I was also shown which room breakfast would be in and was told it was already laid out. Did this mean that everything was left out overnight? The individual cartons of fruit juice; the jug of water & the milk were in the cooler; the cornflakes were in the dispenser and the individually wrapped croissants and the other pastry item (individually wrapped) were out on the table. There may have been Weetabix but I couldn’t see into that container. There were 4 or 5 apples in a bowl and some wooden spoons, oh and some cereal bars. On another table was a kettle and tea and coffee bags. This was all self service with no staff to be seen and the kitchen shut. Apparently no staff on site oivernight or during breakfast time. Premier Inn at Heathrow does a family room with cooked breakfast for £75 for the room. To pay £85 for this level of service is an insult. I was told that there was once a very nice restaurant at this hotel and that was why it was recommended to me, well there’s been a dramatic downturn and the hotel has now gained two more who will recommend DO NOT GO THERE

After travelling by motorbike though terrible traffic and weather, we arrived wet, cold and tired just before 9.30 in the evening. We had been contacted during the evening to say if we arrived after 9.30 we would have to pay a £25 surcharge. We rang the intercom and had to wait an age in the cold and wet to gain entry. Even though we got there in time we were still charged and not made to feel very welcome. We were too wet and tired to argue. We appeared to be the only guests that evening, yet were given a room furthest away. The breakfast in the morning was very basic indeed, no one around and even had to boil a kettle to make instant coffee or basic tea. It took buffet style to new lows. Choice of cereal or a pot of yoghurt all the same flavour, prepacked croissants and the saddest of fruit. Needless to say we won't be returning.

There was no staff at all in the hotel, left to get on with it. The breakfast was a disgrace ! Supposedly continental. No staff ! Not even cornflakes. We were hungry when we left to go home to cook. The restaurant doesn’t exist it was closed down last August. We were misled with the information and no way was this a 4 star hotel. More like 2 star. We won’t be back !!! I feel we should be reimbursed for some of the cost ! Janis from Fife

Would recommend staying here and will definitely use again, lovely cosy warm room very comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. Nice to be able to make a coffee when waking up, good variety of coffee, teabags etc available

Didn't actually use the hotel but my ever unfaithul range rover decided to have a break down. I had to park her up in the old schools rear car park to await collection from the rac. Had to go into the hotel to explain the situation. The inside of the hotel looked lovely and the food leaving the kitchen into the very busy bar/restaurant looked and smelt brilliant. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating if this is anything to go by,then I would suggest a visit is in order. Five star treatment. Thank you.

Booked a room for 4 hours (£100) for a family reunion. Had a lovely evening, girls behind bar were very friendly. Such a pity the manager/owner wasn’t so nice. Last orders were at 9.45 as agreed, bill settled at 9.56 which exceeded the minimum £250 we had to spend and at 10.10 the manager appeared very abruptly, whistled and told us we had to leave. The room was previously agreed to be booked until 10.30 and despite us trying to say this he didn’t want to hear any of it, he said you have to go now and started waving his arms and herding us out like sheep. Embarrassing ending when family have come from Canada and that is the hospitality they receive. Very very poor customer service, they had no interest whatsoever in trying to resolve the matter. Won’t be recommending to anyone.

Absolutely disgusted with the treatment we received at a recent family gathering. As our evening was coming to an end, we were whistled at by the manager, yes whistled, and told to leave they had homes to go to. This was at 10.15 p.m and a mere 5 minutes after they'd served a round of drinks. He was condescending in his manner and arrogant in his approach. No way to run a business or ensure returning customers.

Used as a base for visiting family, could not fault the room we were given clean, well presented. Also bed and room cleaned during our stay. The free grab and go breakfast was basic, hopefully one day they can offer a full or a continental breakfast menu. But will definitely use this hotel again.
