The good thing is that the transportation is convenient. Buses to/from the station stop right in front, and a tram stop a short distance away. It's far from the downtown area, but it's not impossible to walk. It is even more convenient if you use the bus streetcar. There are few shops around, but there is a good Japanese restaurant within walking distance. The room is small and it is difficult to arrange luggage. Just scaffolding around the bed. The desk can be folded (so narrow) that the bag can be opened in a small hallway space leading to the entrance. The public bath is normal for this type of business hotel, more comfortable than a unit bath, but not as good as a hot spring inn. The parking lot is a three-dimensional building. It is OK without getting wet even in the rain. There is no manager at night, so you can't get in and out of your car or take your luggage in and out. If you are having trouble with that, you will be introduced to a nearby parking lot.

I recently stayed at this hotel and overall had a pleasant experience. The environment and amenities were satisfactory, with convenient services such as umbrella rental, laundry service for a reasonable fee, and vending machines available.
One standout feature was the excellent soundproofing in the rooms, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The location was also ideal, with easy access to the shopping district and transportation options right outside the hotel entrance.
However, I did encounter a minor issue with one of the pillows, which caused a rash. Despite informing the hotel staff, the resolution was limited to a simple apology. It would have been appreciated if they had offered a more proactive solution or compensation for the inconvenience.
Overall, though, I would still recommend this hotel for its comfortable accommodations and convenient location.

The hotel is situated next to a tram station but more importantly, within close proximity to Kumamoto castle and Sakura Machi, so sightseeing and grabbing dinner was no trouble. However, consider not travelling to this hotel with luggage on a tram since I found the experience quite gruelling. Trams in Kumamoto are not exactly designed for tourists carrying hefty luggage.
The staff spoke very decent English in the realm of Japanese hotels. The rooms spotlessly clean and sizeable also in terms of Japan. The only downside is that there is no bathhouse but this is much compensated by the spacious bathroom with a roomy bathtub and a rainfall shower.
All in all, the only thing you have to ponder upon is whether you would be travelling to this hotel with luggage on the tram. Otherwise, this is a perfect location to stay in Kumamoto!

We stayed on the tour. The exterior is very clean after renewal. The interior is also around the restaurant and lobby on the first floor, and the front desk is clean. Especially the restaurant was not only clean, but the breakfast was very delicious with local dishes lined up. However, the rooms seemed to be under renewal construction, and the passenger elevator was dedicated to one construction. The guest room floor is that of a business hotel with a Showa atmosphere from the corridor. The room smells of an old hotel, from carpet to wallpaper, and you can feel the remnants of the time when you could smoke. You can see from the scratch of the burnt chair that it was a smoking room. The bathroom was the same as before, and due to the trap of drainage under the floor, there was a step of about 20 cm, and it was difficult to climb and down. And it's very narrow. The view from the room is that there is a highway on the river side, but the space is open On the other side, you can only see the closed hospitals and emergency stairs in old buildings. I think the river side is good if you stay. Anyway, it is best after the renewal is completed. The view does not change.

A very nice, modern hotel in the heart of the Kumamoto shopping district - very convenient location, right at the cross section of the two major covered shopping thoroughfares. Check-in only at 3pm and is an automated check-in/check-out system. Staff are very helpful and friendly. At check-in, you are free to choose your amenities from a very wide selection, including bath salts, face cleanser, moisturizer, coffee, green tea, etc. There is a giant tv in the room. No bottled water is provided. The room offers a full robe (short yukata and pants!). The rooms itself are very modern and renovated. There are two Family Marts and a 7-11 within a block of the hotel, as well as many dining and retail options within short walking distance. It is about a 15 minute walk to Kumamoto Castle and a 30 minute walk to Kumamoto Station.

The room is very spacious, especially the bathroom, which is separate from the toilet. Even though it is facing the street, you can still hear the clanging sound of the Nishitetsu train. The breakfast is very exquisite, it is a set meal, and there is not much choice. One person at the front desk looked very rushed, and the other was more moderate. Luggage can be stored in a self-service password locker, which is very convenient. Toothbrushes and other things need to be picked up at the front desk. The room has a small refrigerator, electric kettle, hair dryer, and shoe horn 😄Next to the front desk on the third floor is the cafe/breakfast area, and there is a large balcony.
The hotel is in a great location and you can see Kumamoto Castle from the room.

My wife and I stayed at the Nikko Kumamoto from 1/5/2023- 3/5/2023 on our second leg of the kyushu trip after a disastrous stay at Nikko Huis Ten Bosch( that I posted on another review). The hospitality was a complete turnaround . We arrived by taxi from the kumamoto station and upon arrival at rhe entrance, there was.a guest officer to help us unload and wheel in our luggage to the check in lobby. Throughout our stay whenever we stepped into or walked by the guests officers, they would greet us and acknowledge us. Despite the language barrier, I was especially touched by the sincere efforts of one of your male guests officer who wore glasses. I had intially wanted to visit Mount Aso but did not know how to go there using public bus. So one one evening I walked to the guest relations desk and stated my intentions and request for more info. I could tell the officer had difficulty trying to communicate in English but he was trying very hard to get the information across. Throughout our stay were given maps and shown by pen and drawings whenever we had questions to a location ie ramen restaurant while waiting for check in, where to shop for sneakers etc I really appreciated the hospitality and guidance despite the language barrier. We hope to be back in future and keep up the good work! I hope the nikko mgmt team can transfer this consistency to your other chains ie( nikko huis ten bosch which clearly lacks such direction ). I really hope when ever I'm in japan I can go back to a nikko

We have used it several times. It feels a bit old in an old hotel, but it is a hotel that can be clean and calm. The morning Viking is a 10F restaurant, so you can see Kumamoto Jo castle that took the Asahi in front of you. The Viking was delicious as well. There was ”Kumamoto Ramen” and I made a morning rake on the last day. The size of the room and the hardness of the bed are satisfactory, but because the room light is small, I want another standlight and the bathroom faucet can be set to temperature I'm grateful. I made four stars. I am satisfied because I had a calm and comfortable time

A lovely hotel to stay in close to Kumamoto Castle. The rooms are nice and clean with friendly staff who are very helpful.
Bath areas on the 12th floor are also quite nice and have a range of offerings inside.
Breakfast was included with the price we paid, however, all the food was a little tasteless, if paying for breakfast, it is easy to go downstairs and get something but I’d probably go somewhere else if paying.

TTammy MakThe hotel is located right at one of the very busy shopping streets of Kumamoto with many shops and restaurants. We had had very pleasant stroll there and had dinner and snack.
The room is very spacious and clean. The two matt glass windows cannot be opened per se. One has light and the other very little.
The soap provided is of better quality than that of the other hotels I have stayed in. The dispenser says Kao.
GGuest UserThe front desk was on the second floor. The first floor is 7-Eleven. The number of multi-storey car parks attached to the hotel was small, and when it was full, the affiliated parking lot was very far away. One blue sky parking lot was vacant, but it didn't stop me. There was a parking lot other than the affiliation nearby. It is good that the bathroom has a bathtub and a washroom. The room is not large. There are many times when the front desk is congested. There was a 7-Eleven on the first floor and it was convenient. The bar area is close, so it is convenient to walk when eating out.
GGuest UserWe chose this hotel due to its view and location to Kumamoto castle. This was a nice hotel and the view from our room was perfect. We paid a little more for the breakfast since there were no close places to eat. They had covid protocols still but the food was delicious and we decided to stay 2 nights. For the price and view it was well worth it. We took a short taxi ride from JR Kumamoto to get there. Very pleasant staff and we would return someday!
GGuest UserWe stayed for 3 nights. The service was outstanding. All staff were very polite and professional. The room was very clean, nice size, and super comfortable with a river view. We had a guest and they gave a parking validation. The breakfast was amazing with various choices. The location is convenient to the downtown and also JR train station. We will definitely stay again.
GGuest UserThe hotel's location was the main reason why we booked the place. It was close to both Kumamon Square and Kumamotojo, the 2 things we wanted to do in Kumamoto. However, note that even though it's right next to Kumamotojo, it still takes a 15~20minute walk to the entrance because it's on the other side of the castle keep during it's repairs. The staff are wonderful and very helpful, standard level of service in Japan is just one step above every other country. The staff did valet parking for me without extra charge, and was quite helpful in helping us to get to different attractions and restaurants. Overall, the hotel is very dated and the rooms are in dire need of a full renovation. I think that is why the rates were quite reasonable. For a hotel this caliber (probably 5 stars when it was first built), we only paid around 10,000 yen per night. The issue is the rooms are really old and the carpet looks dirty and ripped. parts of the washrooms were so old the faucet looked like it's from the early 90s and with small amounts of molds in the creases. Because the hotel is old, the ventilation isn't the greatest either. One of our rooms although was non-smoking, we could smell other room's cigarette smell in our room. Overall, I don't really recommend this hotel because it's really dated, but if you are on a budget and want close amenity it's worth a shot. The staff are nice too so I feel bad for not recommending the hotel, but at the end of the day, there are just better options in Kumamoto today.
Nnonono5I stayed at the introduction of an acquaintance. It is very clean because it has just opened this summer. Security is also safe because the elevator does not move without the key to the room. Unfortunately, I couldn't see Kumamoto Jo castle from my room, but there was a table and chair on the rooftop, and I was able to enjoy Kumamoto Jo castle at night. The room is equipped with a lot of outlets and USB, and it is not troubled by charging mobile phones. The clothes in the building were unique. Laughs. It became a memory of the trip. The front desk was also kind.
HHala leunghala48Shopping, eating and riding are very convenient. There are railways and buses a few minutes outside the door. When you leave, there is a bus outside the door to reach the airport. The sound insulation is very poor, and you will hear the footsteps upstairs when you live downstairs. The toilet smells and the toilet is seeping.
GGuest UserThe room seems to have a color 々 type, but it was a 4 bed with a loft. Among them, 2 is about a double size, so I think 6 can sleep. It has a washing machine and a mini kitchen and a wide bath 々. However, it may be inconvenient because drying is only in the bathroom. The hanger was borrowed at the front desk. It is for long stay because there is one IH stove, a pot, a kettle, a knife cutting board, a chopsticks and dishes, a dish detergent, and a whole range. It is more than 1 km from downtown and Kumamoto Station, so healthy people can walk, but it is not convenient. Convenience stores are nearby 7-Eleven. The front desk seems to be not 24 time resident. It is completely for long-term stays and is not suitable for those who are crunchy for sightseeing, but we are particular about the brand that is easy to use, such as the newness, cleanliness of the room, hair dryer, tableware, and kettle. I think it is a good hotel for those who like residence type hotels.
HHina_333oIt was a good hotel in a good location, less than 10 minutes from Kumaden station and one step from the new town shopping street. The hotel and the room were not dirty, but overall it was old. There is also a convenience store nearby, and the shopping street is crowded until midnight and everything is available, so I think it would be good if I didn't stay at the hotel for a long time. Breakfast was not as expected.
LLiuIt can sleep three people in bunk beds and is suitable for backpackers or small families. It has all the necessary equipment. The service at the front desk is good and the necessary supplies can be borrowed. The parking lot is large and suitable for self-driving travelers.
