Booked this hotel after seeing an advert in the paper. Great deal with DB&B. Tasty food great service. clean rooms though small. Staff very helpful. My wife had a broken leg so staff were able to accommodate in a downstair cottage. Only a bath but there a downstair one with a shower and bath

We spent a night at the Star Hotel as a base for some walks around Kingussie in early July. Overall the Star was showing its age a bit but provided exactly what we wanted - a comfy bed, great breakfast and friendly and helpful staff. There was no shower in the en-suite but a hot bath after a long walk was just as good, so no complaints. And the location is perfect - in the centre of town and just down the road from the best restaurant in Kingussie (the Tipsy Laird). Would happily stay there again.

I really don't like leaving negative reviews but felt I had to comment on this hotel.I booked two rms for one night and wished I never had. The first rm was terrible and after complaining ( no apology , woman almost seemed in disbelief we were unhappy) we were given another rm. Not as bad as first but still bad. Stains on walls, mouldy shower cubicle, grubby floor, extremely dated, shabby furniture, cobwebs.Faced the back where you could here rowdy smokers gathered. We went down to bar for a drink, not badly priced but unfriendly staff. After all that said we had quite a comfortable nights sleep. I didn't hold out much hope at breakfast but that redeemed itself as there was a good choice and we were served by a very friendly ( polish I think) waitress. I have stayed in some very low budget accommodation over the years but never as bad as this . I felt very unclean and couldn't wait to leave. I would of expected this standard in a hostel. My advice would be spend a few extra pounds and book another hotel, this cost me £70 for the privilege.

Booked through third party website at last min, very reasonable price when compared to everywhere else around. Called to make sure booking went through- Gill was exceptionally helpful and lovely giving details how to check in late etc. I was lucky to get a double room, very clean comfortable and had all I needed, including being beautifully done up with clean towels again for my second night. Very good breakfast in morning and exceptionally good prices in the bar, complimented with live music each night - all in all a lovely stay.

One of few places to offer single rooms. Conveniently situated just off A9 in centre of town with free parking. Co-op and other shops nearby and 2 fish and chip eateries. Comfortable bed. Shower a bit sluggish on second floor. Church clock chimes every hour even through the night. Good choice at breakfast though 8.15 am is a little late for early starts. Extensive bar menu. Stayed 4 nights in May as hill walking base.

Stayed here last night. Room very small otherwise ok. Tv outdated and pretty hopeless. Wifi non existent in the room, have to go downstairs. Breakfast was interesting, in a Fawlty Towers kind of way. "Manwell", female version, asked four times to confirm our drinks and breakfast order. Breakfast only available for 1hr at 0830. Not enough tables for all guests, so 5 couples asked to wait. One couple walked out after 45min wait with nothing. Mine arrived, fried eggs instead of poached. Wifes hard boiled eggs did not arrive. Mentioned to waitress. Advised the were cooking. Received after 10 minutes. Cut into them, raw! Totally uncooked. Sent back. European manager blamed customers for mistakes. No apology or refund offered to couple who walked out. Manager seen with coffee, toast, and a fag out back of hotel at end of breakfast hour when people checking out of hotel. Several staff seen sitting on mobile phones and smoking in front of guests. Also, manager came into our room whilst we were out without our permission. No safe in room. Won't be staying again.

We stayed here for one night and my impressions were a very helpful receptionist, dated decor, smells like my late nan's house in the party area upstairs and the hotel does not seemed to have changed anything since it first opened. Wifi is only in the reception area, which wasn't a problem for us. Definitely needs an upgrade and update in all areas. Our room was tiny, which would have been a problem had we stayed more than one night. It was clean and the bedding and towels were fresh. The TV , however, should be in a museum - there was nothing really to do in Kingussie. It has a Freeview box, but the reception at times was dreadful. We didn't have a brilliant night's sleep - the bed is very comfortable, it was just that it was hot in the room and we couldn't have a window open as our room faced the main road and the traffic noise was loud. We had requested an early breakfast, and were unable to partake in the cooked breakfast due to the early request. The continental breakfast was fine - cereal, coffee, juice, yogurt and a couple of pieces of fruit. I doubt we would stay here again.
