my sisters and I had a lovely time staying in an A Frame Chalet at Mokutu. Beds were comfortable, both upstairs and down had their own bathroom - shower, toilet and sink. We had use of the washing machine and clothes line. Great quality fridge, coffee machine, toaster, kettle. Concrete driveway, easy to drive in and out. Lovely grounds - very green, lovely plants. We didn't use pool as weather was a bit cool. You need to hire a car, to travel all around the lovely island which is quite hilly in places. It was a short drive to everywhere, including Emily Bay where we had a glass bottom boat ride, and snorkeled. The people we met were all lovely and friendly. Cows and chooks have right of way on the roads - as do any pedestrians of course. We bought lovely clothes, had great coffees and meals, enjoyed all the events we booked ourselves on. Would definitely stay at the A Frame Chalets again!

My wife and I had 7 nights in the A-Frame Mokutu and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Sheree met us at the airport with our hire car and gave us a quick orientation of the island and the facilities at our accommodation. It is located a short drive to the Burnt Pine township and also the Kingston historic site, although northing is too far away on Norfolk Island. I think that possibly due to recent renovations we were the only guests. Very quiet and a lovely setting with good facilities on-site. Troy dropped by to check that everything was ok and showed us how to use the coffee machine and provide extra beans. I would recommend this accommodation.

I originally booked 7 nights but ended up staying only for 1 night due to a number of issues and some misunderstandings, First, we were greeted by a lady at the Airport who took 20 minutes to arrive. We sorted our rental car and were told that we should follow her for a tour around the island but we had to wait for another 30 min - 45 min or so for another flight coming from Australia. We were hungry and tired therefore could not wait. Getting there I thought we were going to be staying in one of the A frame chalets but we were given an unit that looks like more a cheap motel room. It was upstairs and I had to carry several heavy suitcases upstairs without any help (there's no lift). Just opening the door I noticed a big problem as both my partner and I have allergy to mould and easily get a blocked nose. The place stank of mould everywhere and we had to sleep with the window open. There were pieces of old soap in the shower and some fresh stains of a red liquid on the bathroom wall near the mirror (blood ?). Some of the cups in the kitchen smelled of old coffee and milk what makes me believe they were not cleaned properly. Walking around, I noticed that there's a Cafe downstairs but it was closed. There's a swimming pool with BBQ facilities but everything is pretty old and rusty. The entire place needs a total renovation. Passing in front of the A Frame chalets, they look more modern and nicer but cannot make any comments since I haven't stayed there. There's no staff available on site other than the cleaning lady. All communication with the owners needs to be done via phone with ocasional visits. I ended up finding another place to stay for the rest of my visit to the Island. Talking to the owner he offered a refund, apologies and was very understanding. I appreciate that however I would suggest some improvements as the place has a lot of potential but needs a LOT of care.

We were warmly welcomed at the airport by Sheree and after promptly picking up our hire car we were lead around the village and Kingston/ Emily Bay by Sheree who pointed out the essential spots before taking us to our suite at Motuku. They had upgraded our suite and we found everything we needed for our 10day stay. Lovely spot, quiet enough yet close to both the township and the historic Kingston. We came back on day 2 to find Sheree had kindly left us a cake celebrating our 51st wedding anniversary...thank you. We had pre booked a number of tours and at every one we not only learnt more about the island and it's history but getting to know the "locals" and the way of life here. Highly recommend Motuku and Norfolk Island to anyone considering going there.

Stayed at the A-Frame Chalets during our recent visit to Norfolk Island. The Chalets were being completely renovated during our stay, and we had a newly finished unit for our 7 days there. The unit was very comfortable, and the newly outfitted kitchen had brand new appliances, crockery etc. Hosts Sheree and Troy were a pleasure to deal with, and couldn't help us enough! The chalets are on the eastern side of the island, and are conveniently located to the main town, Burnt Pine, and the convict ruins at Kingston. A great place to stay if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing island stay!! Richard & Trish C

We stayed for 6 nights. Shirleen met us at the airport. She was very friendly and made us immediately feel welcome. Hire car was there waiting for us. The chalet itself was very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. She gave us a run down of all the essential info and some phone numbers for her son Troy who also ran the resort in case we needed anything. Also gave us some advise on must sees and do's. Nothing was too much trouble for her or Troy. The home spun hospitality was great. Would have no hesitation in staying there again.

We spent 5 nights in one of the A frame chalets, which are quite spacious and comfortable. There is a living room, small kitchen, main bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Upstairs there is another bedroom with 3 beds and a second bathroom. There is also a small porch out the front of the chalet which is a nice place to relax in. The location is rural and pleasant, although you will need a car to access beaches, the town, the world heritage historic area and the national park. This is a good place for a family as a self catering option. If you want to drive into Burnt Pine for dinner it is only a 5-10 minute drive away. The host Troy is very nice and helpful, he met us at the airport and gave us a little tour via the historic area on the way to the chalet. A bus tour of the island was also included and we thought that this was very enjoyable and informative.

The difference between the photos on the Web site and physical reality for this property is vast. This accommodation is run down and in need of lot of maintenance. The chalet itself was fundamentally clean but that's about the only positive thing I could say for the place. 6 dinner plates, perhaps 2 matching, a couple chipped, one put away dirty. Very few cooking bowls and dishes. Uncomfortable furniture. No daily service, we were randomly offered clean towels on day 5. Other guests who had been there 7 nights had not had clean towels and sheets. As they weren't in when the person offered,'supplies ' they didn't get any. No on site management. Advertised Cafe long closed. Pool filthy, slime on the bottom. Spa a sort of yellow green colour. We did not dare enter the water. Someone supposedly cleaned the pool a few days after we arrived but another guest told us it was still slimy on the bottom. No pool lounges or umbrellas. A bit of a barren wasteland. Garden didn't look as if anyone had mowed or picked up a fallen branch in a very long time. Our little front deck had a full on view of what might have been a clump of old banana trees bound together by fallen dead branches. BBQ unusable. Rusty cooking plates and the area covered in leaves and branches . The person who met us at the airport looked like she had just finished the cleaning. There is a big difference between island laid back and being professional. This was a truly disgraceful place and the Web site is totally fraudulent. Heaven knows when the photos were taken. I should have asked for a refund! I have stayed in many places from 2 star to 5 star and never written a review like this before. I do have photos but even one from my phone camera exceeds the 5mb max size so I can't post.

Sheree found us as we exited the Airport Terminal & we were escorted to our waiting Hire Care to complete the paperwork. On the way to the property, Sheree took the scenic route to give us an idea of the town, convict ruins & a safe swimming beach. Sheree & Troy were most helpful throughout our stay, we thoroughly enjoyed our 6 days at the A-Frame Chalets.
