This was my third stay at The Lodge, this time just for a single night. I was in a slightly smaller room than on my previous visits but as I was travelling alone this time, it wasn’t an issue at all. Room was very clean and cosy with plenty of room for clothes, bags, boots, coat etc. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although I chose to skip the breakfast this time, ( it has been great on previous visits) I did have a really nice coffee on arrival and a peppermint tea before bed, both from the coffee shop. I liked the seasonal pumpkin lantern by the front door

Lovely hotel and friendly staff. Very dog friendly, with door code to go in and out as we pleased after 9.00 p.m which is great when you have dogs. Room was spacious with room for dogs beds. Shower was a little small for my 6 foot husband but couldn't be helped. Bed was really comfy. Room was a bit hot, even with heating off. Couldn't open window as it was raining and it was a skylight window. Apart from maybe a fan not much could have been done. Breakfast was a lovely continental. 2nd day we opted for cooked along at sister hotel the King's head which was also lovely. Stayed for 2 nights. Will definitely be back again.

Really disappointed. Turned up at 1002 to find restaurant area empty but staffed. Waitress came to door to say that we would have to wait 28 minutes in car park as the place only served non residents after 1030. At a time when businesses are struggling I was surprised that they didn't want trade from 4 non residents. Had the restaurant been full with residents or had there been no staff I could have understood but this was not the case.sign outside says cafe open all day. Shall not return

Came in for a pre hike drink which we paid for. And asked for some tap water and ice to which we were refused with the only explanation being everyone asks for it. I asked for just ice as I still had water in my camel pak and still refused. Pleased that paying customers get this service on a 30 degree day

Just returned home after a 6 hour journey from hell but yet again another great stay at the Lodge in the Vale. Have been coming to the Lodge for 3 years roughly now and the hospitality as per usual was top class. Perfect location for whatever your reasoning is for visiting the Lakes, whether its to climb the hills, explore the Lakes and all its beautiful surroundings or like myself, a avid plane spotter wanting to climb the hills for the low flying aircraft (when the weather allows). Rooms are consistently clean and tidy, nothing is ever too much to ask for if you need anything extra or more off if you stay for 4/5 nights etc, you get offered a mini room service half way through your stay if you require anything doing (new towels/etc). Not a breakfast eating person but always get lunch in the cafe after a morning out & about and the food is always spot on, whether you have a lovely warm soup or a toasted Panini! Already looking forward to my next trip and to seeing the brilliant team at both the Lodge in the Vale and the sister pub just down the road The Kings Head (30 seconds in the car or 10 min walk away) where Peter & his team always look after you if you’re staying with the Lodge! 5 stars isn’t enough for these guys!

I stopped here a few days ago after a nice long hike up to raven crag, the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. I enjoyed a delicious lemon and blueberry cake with a nice hot latte. Would highly recommend to any passing hikers.

Having stayed at "The Lodge..." on a previous trip to The Lakes we knew it had a coffee shop. Although we were just 'passing through' this time finding ourselves in of a break we decided to call in again. Lattes and cake were delicious and staff as friendly as we remembered from before. Particularly appreciated the treats & fuss for our 4-legged travelling companion.

Don’t waste your time popping in to the ‘open all day’ coffee shop. Imagine our delight to see welcoming signs offering a much needed caffeine fix, whilst driving past at the respectable time of 8.30am this morning. Sadly though, according to your very miserable receptionist, you are not actually open all day and only open to non-residents from 10.30. Perhaps to save any ongoing frustration and unnecessary poor reviews from potential new customers you could get your signs changed? Such an easy fix to avoid disappointment and you never know it might also help the angry lady on reception enjoy her job a little more?!

The Lodge is a comfortable and modern hotel near Legburthwaite and Thirlmere, in the Lake District. They don't automatically service your rooms every day but we liked this as it meant we weren't disturbed every day, and if we needed anything, all we had to do was ask. There's a coffee shop which is where continental breakfast is served, and this also stays open until 9pm, for drinks and light snacks. A full English breakfast has to be ordered the night before and you have to go to the King's Head Inn ten minutes walk/2 minutes drive away, but the continental breakfast is generous and varied. It's served at a relaxed 8.15 to 9.30am too. Beds are comfortable, rooms are big enough, ensuite with shower, everything is spotless. This hotel is completely dog-friendly too. All told, an enjoyable stay, in a hotel that is excellently well-placed for exploring the Lakes. Ambleside and Grasmere, ten minutes car journey away. A very friendly and helpful staff. Thanks so much.
