The girl on the front desk is helpful using her phone translator, there’s beer in the fridge (Wusu is the strongest but not very strong), the 4-bed room has bathroom and curtains for the beds for privacy. Nice to hear the music from below reaching the room.
Great to be in Kashgar for the brilliant Sunday Grand Bazaar livestock and food market, and for the unadorned serene Id Kar main mosque (one of 24,300 mosques in Xinjiang), the mausoleum (walk up the long side road and see it from the back first: it’s beautiful there, there’s no one else and the cemetery is also amazing).
The old city isn’t so special but there is a separate part over the main road rather is much less touristy and more appealing. There’s also this beautiful cafe there shown on the last three photos here, with loads of coffees, playing Astrid Gilberto, and with beautiful features he chose to add to the original old-city building.
