We had a lovely family holiday at Occidental Jandia Mar recently CHECK IN – check in was friendly, helpful and we were provided with a map of the hotel with directions to our room. We were given our wristbands and I explained that our special needs son would not be comfortable wearing it so we were assured that this would not be a problem and they're here to assist us in any way that they can. On my booking I had requested a room on the 1st floor (ie. not on the ground floor) due to safety concerns of my son being able to run away from an open ground floor balcony area. Unfortunately, we had been allocated a ground floor room. I explained the situation and a more suitable room was found for us. ROOM – the room was spacious and clean with a nice balcony affording beautiful views of the sea. The bathroom was spacious and included a full size bath tub, powerful shower and all toiletries including dental. On our penultimate day, we had run out of shower gel and I had to ask twice for it to be replaced HOTEL – the hotel is pretty large and set on 3 levels and always kept to a clean standard. There are 2 restaurants, snack bar, 2 indoor bars, spa, kids club and water park so everything you need for a family holiday POOLS – there are 2 pools. The upper pool is heated and hence gets very crowded. You'd be extremely lucky to get a free lounger here unless you 'reserve' your towel here at 7am! The lower pool is the 'quiet' pool. The water is not heated but we always managed to find free loungers here. There is a kids water splash area located between the 2 pools. In addition, there is a kids water park which is situated adjacent to the main hotel building. FOOD – Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the main buffet restaurant, Mimosa. Food was of a good standard and quality with a mix of traditional Spanish dishes, fresh pizza, pastas, grilled meats and fish and salads. There were some attempt at some sort of theme some evenings but to be honest, it was difficult to work exactly what the theme was meant to be. We generally enjoyed all of the food though for some, it can get a bit samey. As per other reviews, I agree that my main gripe was the temperature of the food. It was generally lukewarm and rarely hot. The hotel does need to invest in better heating for the food. On our check out morning, we arrived for breakfast at the 7.30am opening time and the food was already lukewarm to cold. Additionally, there is an all day snack bar near the pools. I say 'snack bar' but it's pretty big and more like a cafe/restaurant. You can get fresh burgers, hotdogs, pizzas, salads, snacks, desserts, ice cream, drinks and beer. There is also a fridge situated at the upstairs Lobby bar containing sandwiches, cakes and snacks which you can help yourself to day or night! LOCATION – as mentioned by others, the hotel is situated at the top of a very steep hill. It is manageable if you take your time (approx 10-15mins) though if you have mobility issues then yes it
