Hamitbey Hotel Yenikapı

First of all don't be fooled by the picture you see on the website. This is what it looks like from the outside. They photoshopped out two buildings. I've seen reviews saying the pool is wonderful, it's not. It's filthy. There's all kind of things on the bottom of the pool. That spout that pours water in doesn't look like it's been cleaned and it's very loud. It makes the pool area noisy. The pool is quite small but the building is quite small so that's fair. Be prepared to pay for a swim cap if you don't have one. 50 lira cash. The wait staff in the breakfast room were quite nice actually. However food is a guessing game. Not everything is labeled some things you know what they are like olives and bread. But there are so many things that have no labels on them and you just have to guess what they are. Different types of sauces or jams or whatever and for me it made breakfast less of a good experience. There are lots of cheeses but who knows what they are. Some of those cheeses were brought out the next day from the day before. I know this because some of those she slices were rock hard. There are fries every morning but they're soggy because they're in a steamer basically. The location is good because you're within walking distance of the Grand Bazaar and the Blue mosque and lots of places to eat. The Metro is less than 5 minutes away. Turn right out of the hotel and it's the first turning on the left. The four Star rating has me baffled. I can't see how this is a four star hotel but I guess it's one of those you get what you pay for. It was cheap and it was cheap for a reason. The walls are thin. We could clearly hear the The people in the room next to ours. And their TV was so loud we couldn't hear our own. When I'm back in Istanbul I'll spend more money and stay somewhere different. Getting back to IST airport was a breeze. There are buses that run every 30 minutes. It takes less than an hour and you can walk there in about 10 minutes. Just turn right out of the hotel. Take the first street on your right and keep walking until you get to the mall. Go down into the mall come out the other side turn left and you will see the bus stand. You can pay with a credit card.

Tiny rooms/ thin walls The rooms are very small we could barely fit two suitcases. Missing a lot of regular amenities like tissues, sometimes toilet paper. They never sweep the floor or clean the shower during even a week long stay. Very nice front desk person called Yussef that was a highlight, but not enough to come back. We had to switch rooms (2 separate reservations) but they didn’t want to keep us in the same room and my daughter happened to leave her ear buds in the first room. The tracking pointed to the room but they kept saying they don’t have it. Very disappointed.

Fantastic Hotel Stayed at the hotel for 7 days. The Hotel was in a great location, with plenty of Shops, Restaurants & Metro, etc. right outside the hotel. We stayed in a double room which was small but perfectly adequate. The Bathroom was spotlessly clean with a great shower, and the room was cleaned daily. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The staff were all 1st class and very friendly. When I return to Istanbul I will definitely be staying at the Hamitbey Hotel.

The team to the cultural sites was close by. An advantage in the crazy traffic. Plenty of places to eat a block or two walk. The metro construction could be noisy. Room was on the small side but enough place for everything, very modern and well kept. Staff very helpful.
