Grainaig Guest House is something very special. Chris and Carla have created a luxurious haven in stunning South Uist; we loved our time there and wished we'd had longer to stay and explore. Carla was super helpful, giving loads of advice about places to eat and visit. She suggested a hike along the shore of the picturesque Loch Eynort. We followed her advice and also visited the hillside close to the car park, where a forest restoration program is underway. This is a beautiful, peaceful area, and the loch views are stunning. Our dinner at Grainaig was outstanding; Chris is a magnificent chef. He prepared a vegan meal for me, including a delicious butternut squash risotto, followed by a chocolate tart (which was absolutely to die for!). The house is set back from the road and surrounded by a garden, there's plenty of parking space and charging for EVs. Our cosy, comfortable room at the back looked out across the dunes towards the sea; at night, we could hear the waves.

Just back from a week travelling in the Outer Hebrides and this was our favourite stopover. There is nothing about the experience Chris and Carla offer that does not impress. The rooms are comfortable, homely and well appointed. The intimacy of the lounge, dining area and open plan kitchen really works. The food is exceptional with lots of touches that would make bigger establishments blush; homemade breads, freshly cooked croissants, eggs from the chickens in the garden, right down to a small batch gin that they have had distilled locally containing heather from the garden.

Stayed here for 2 nights and had breakfast and dinner both days. We are a mature couple who have travelled a fair bit, not in the habit of writing too many reviews, but it's got to be said this stay was well beyond our expectations. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped and the food was something special. Perhaps not the cheapest guesthouse you'll find but if it's quality and top notch service you're after Chris and Carla absolutely provide this at the Grianaig.

A wonderful stay. Immaculately clean, attention to all detail paid. Beds very comfortable, room quiet, good bath sheets. Food was great, hosts welcoming and helpful. An honesty system for drinks when hosts busy. Perfect. 10/10. Will definitely visit again and recommend to everyone.

A beautiful guest house in a beautiful location. There are four bedrooms so it's cosy. Chris & Carla give you a warm welcome. The bedrooms are superb: fantastic sleep quality, great shower. Breakfast is excellent, as is dinner. Our only regret is that we dined at the Pollochar Inn ( see separate review) on our second night, which was an unmitigated disaster. With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight we should have eaten here. Cannot recommend highly enough!

We stayed here for a week in June 2024. The guest house is small, only four bedrooms, and is run by the owners. The atmosphere is friendly, the rooms clean and the food superb. The only danger is to your waistline! Thank you Chris and Carla for a great stay.

We are here now and before we move on further north we just wanted to thank you for the most amazing stay. Biggest regret is we didn’t book two nights. There is such attention to detail with the decor, hospitality and five star food. We have never stayed in a more lovely hotel or guest house. Make sure you book dinner with this amazing couple we both couldn’t fault a thing. First class hotels don’t even have this level of detail or level of service. Such a great find.
