Thank you Elaine and Ian for making my stay so comfortable. The spacious Dover bedroom overlooking the village green was a delight. Your breakfasts are the best! Fresh milk in mini fridge near bedroom was welcome. As a solo female traveller, I felt very at ease.

Very friendly welcome from the landlady and landlord. Nice clean bedroom and excellent breakfast, best breakfast for a long time. Only stopped for one night as we were seeing friends in Hythe but will definitely be booking again next time we come down

We booked Sunday lunch for 1.30. When we arrived there were two ladies having food and a drink in the garden, we went inside, there was one other person in there, he was watching TV. I said to the barman that I had booked a table, and he said ah Julie. I couldn't have been anyone else as no one else came into the restaurant whilst we were eating. We ordered lamb and pork belly, the lamb was good and the pork belly divine but the gravy tasted funny and the apple sauce was bitter also the parsnips and tender stem were very hard could not even cut them. The barman then asked us if we had finished and if we would like the desert menu, I told him the vegetables were hard and all he said was OK. Well, we waited for the desert menu, and nothing was bought over, so my husband went to the bar to request, remember no-one else had come into the bar or restaurant. So we had the menu and sat and sat. The barman then came over with his pad and pen, took away the pepper and salt, but he did not take our order. We waited again as he went back behind the bar. Eventually, he came over, but by then, we had decided not to have a desert and just paid and left.the landlord and land lady were sitting at a table opposite us on her laptop, they didn't even acknowledge us. How rude Never to be used again.

I have never met such rude, horrible people in my life! The owner (lady) refused to let me and my friend stay, due to an error I made on the registration forms, stating 3 people were staying when only 2 were. I tried to explain this to the owner and what a horrible person she is! Would not let me speak and refused to listen to what I had to say, over a genuine mistake. I cannot fathom how someone can speak to their customers, the way this lady spoke to me. The lovely lady working on the bar even apologised, for the way her so called manager spoke to me. What a great example you are setting your staff members. No surprise no one was drinking/eating in there when I arrived. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

We were staying close by in the Castle Cottage (not associated) and this was the local. 100% dog friendly and they are allowed anywhere in the pub. There was a large garden area out the front but we sat inside because of the weather. It's been some time since I've been in a pub with such a lovely wide selection of drinks. Obviously this depends on what you like, but there were local beers as well as Leffe and Blue Moon for example. Same great selection for the gins and vodkas, including premium brands like Grey Goose. the staff we encountered were welcoming and warm, even though we hadn't visited before, and the drinks were priced fairly. We didn't have food, but others were eating whilst we were there and the food looked fine - typical pub style. Sunday roasts available, but again we didn't eat these so can't comment on the quality. I think there are a few unfair reviews of this place as it clearly states it's a work in progress, and it is in a lovely position, but is not in the middle of Hythe. People should make sure they read up on the location and status of ongoing work before booking if this is a concern for them. We were two women having a drink on our own and it couldn't have been more comfortable and welcoming.

My wife and i and her mother stayed here for 1 night ( thankfully) on sept 13 this year. It was a truly awful experience never to be repeated under any circumstances. It begun when we asked to check in and were met with complete blank faces from the two young staff behind the counter. They were eventually able to find our reservation and after some further confusion gave us our keys and directed us to our rooms. What we found was threadbare carpets, unpainted plaster repairs ( the plaster was clearly applied with a spoon) stained sealant around the shower tray, rusty taps and rooms resembling something from a sixties TV sit com. I know, we should have left then. We resigned ourselves that we would not let this spoil the start of our holiday and went down to the bar. More blank stares when we asked for a bottle of rose wine but that was nothing compared to the attitude of the landlady when we complained about the awful food we were served. My wife ordered Chicken hotpot, when it arrived the only thing that resembled said dish was the pot. My gammon steak was clearly the reason we had to wait so long for our food ( in the broadest possible terms) to arrive, it must of been cooked for a good 45 mins. We once spent an awful week in a grotty hotel in the backwaters of the tea plantations of India, it came a close second to this stay.

We stayed here last night and wish we hadn’t Our room was really poor and needed a total re fit Taps in bathroom rusted , skirting boards and around the edges not clean But there were lovely fresh white towels which was out of context with the rest of the room Bedroom wasn’t well cleaned ,the bed creaked . The whole room was like something from the 70s We ate in the restaurant which wasn’t good . We waited ages for our prawn starters which were fine ,which surprised us as there were few people there My burger was burnt and the young waiters comment when I told him was “ Oh Dear “, our friends chicken pie had a crust that was rock hard .My husband curry was ok but portion small but a lot of rice Breakfast was good but we’ve never been told “ we only serve instant coffee “ . The couple who own the hotel are lovely and friendly but need to look at getting the place gutted . We would be happy to pay more for a better experience as it’s close to Le Shuttle

I have never experienced anything has bad as this one night stay. Young bar lad was pleasant and the young girl was nervous but pleasant. We had a call a couple of hours to confirm we were staying and if explained that the kitchen was closed we would of not bothered. No food served made it worse so we went up to our room to watch sky TV. Then locals started to turn up so.i couldn't here the tele. I sent a recording of the swearing and loudness coming from below. I generally thought they were in bed with me it was so clear. I contactacted to ask the closing time to have the response I have a license to 1am. Luckily it was a week day so it stopped around half 11 but then other rooms toilet started. I couldn't wait get out of the place in the morning.

Stayed here as I was attending a wedding at Port Lympne. Comfortable, clean room and friendly staff at check in. Everything you would expect from a local hotel that is part of a pub. Very reasonable price. Nice bonus to have Sky TV in the rooms and fresh milk was provided for tea/coffee. Breakfast was great - both the food and service. Really liked the fresh bread used for toast. Only reasonable improvement I’d suggest would be the coffee. Overall I’d definitely go back and recommend this hotel to others.
