The fireplace debris is stockpiled (now a huge heap) at the back of the hotel, separating the hotel and staff quarters. It’s a health hazard to the environment, staff, children at play, wild animals and the stray cats (not sterilised) around the premises."

"We attended a wedding and decided to stay at the venue. The venue and location was beautiful. The rooms were dated, old, smelt strange and full of insects. Also I had my child with me and we paid a surcharge which was no problem, when we asked for a towel for him they refused (still not sure why, was told guest steal towels) The bathrooms are so old and dated and we were not able to get hot water, the shower also leaked ND the entire floor was wet. Please also not my entire immediate family stayed there and we had booked a total of 5 rooms but a towel could not be spared. It's truly a beautiful venue but the rooms need urgent work and the staff at reception can't talk properly."

"Communication was very poor leading up to our visit and whilst we were there (even when the cellphone towers were back working) There was no electricity which is no fault of the owners we understand but no extra effort made to accommodate this like a bucket of hot water to wash etc. They knew about the lack of electricity from the day before we arrived and didn’t inform us so we could have planned a bit better we left a day early and again heard nothing from the owner after watsapping them The feeling was one of we were an irritation and they’re actually over the service industry We felt it was expensive for what you got and there are many other places on the midlands more value for money. "

"Truly a relaxing getaway. We stayed in the deluxe suite- lovely views, comfortable room with underfloor heating in the bathroom that was ideal for the cooler weather. Especially enjoyed the window seats in the room- perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun. We had breakfast and dinner at The Bistro and received excellent service and delicious food. We requested for our hake at dinner not to be beer battered and to be prepared seperately for religious reasons and the staff were very accommodating. We also visited the spa for a massage. The spa was clean with heated blankets on the massage beds which really elevated the experience. Would definitely return to Granny Mouse for future getaways! The tranquility can't be beaten."

"The hotel is in a great location but clearly the owners have not invested in this property in years. The rooms and common areas are tired and in some cases carpets are dirty and seem well past replacement age. The curtains in the room were also tired and did not pull properly and the soft furnishings were worn. There is no excuse in this day and age for no internet access in the bedrooms, all the guest in our party complained about this. The breakfast is ok with the eggs being consistently over cooked. When in the common areas there seems to be little sensitivity of guests with staff and management often conversing loudly. Other issues are a lack of room safes and bar fridges as well are poor heating in the room. One to avoid as there are far better options that do not suffer these problems in the area."

"We recently stayed at Gateside Guesthouse and wanted to share my experience. Pros: Beautiful Views: The scenery surrounding the guest house is absolutely stunning. Waking up to such breathtaking views was a highlight of our stay. Delicious Breakfast: The breakfast offered was delightful, with a variety of options that were both tasty and satisfying. It truly set a positive tone for the day. Cons: Unfriendly Welcome: Unfortunately, our welcome was not as warm as we had hoped from the manager. The initial interaction felt a bit cold and rushed, which set an awkward tone for the start of our stay. Communication Style: Throughout our visit, reminders about the house rules were delivered in a rather unfriendly manner. This could be improved by adopting a more welcoming tone for guests. Feeling Unwelcome: At times, we felt unwelcome due to the overall atmosphere and communication style. A more friendly approach from the manager would greatly enhance the guest experience. Conclusion: While there were aspects of our stay that we truly enjoyed, such as the beautiful views and delicious breakfast, the unfriendly welcome and communication style left much to be desired. With some improvements in guest relations, Gateside Guesthouse has the potential to provide a much more inviting experience."

"7 years ago was our first visit on an overnight package. 13 February 2026 we just popped in for a day package. Delighted to see Fourdoun still going strong with many lovely upgrades. The floatation tank remains the main attraction for me. The aroma theraphy massage was FIRST CLASS. A lovely light lunch. Each part of the package gets a 10/10. Wonderful, warm and welcoming staff and relaxing setting. We will be back asap."

"This is our second visit to St Ives and we love the family rooms. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge, balcony and a kitchenette it's very convenient. However, our unit was noted to have some previous water damage noted on the walls and there were multiple cracks on the walls. And on our last night we noticed the bathroom sink was leaking underneath. The ceiling in the passage as you enter the chalet is bit lopsided. It was also noisy when it was windy as if someone was at the door when it was only the wind. Please repair and repaint the unit. It doesn't look like quality control has been done. The lady cleaning up our unit was very nice. But the mop leaves a damp odor after the unit has been cleaned. We really would love to return as we love St Ives."
