Conveniently located not far from the Kyoto station, ALA is quite a new and modern place that provides great accommodation and all the amenities at affordable prices. The room we stayed is more spacious than other similar standard hotels in Japanese cities, with separate shower/bathtub and toilet section. There is spa, gym and conference rooms for both business and leisure travelers. Best of all is the breakfast. We stayed here for four nights and enjoyed a variety of good Japanese, Chinese, Italian, and American meals every morning. The soft-serve ice cream was my most favorite. The staff was very polite and efficient. Room was clean and tidy with new bed linen and towels changed daily although we did not throw off the used one. All in all it is a value-for-money 4 Star Hotel that anyone visiting Kyoto should consider.

Lovely clean hotel a short walk (or free shuttle) to kyoto station). All was good. Very fast wifi and comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast either downstairs or in the revolving restaurant. The only oddity was the swimming pool and gym which had restricted usage hours and required payment on top! Was not worth it and even if it was the unusual hours of operation made it unfeasible. Would stay again though unless I really needed the gym and pool.

We hv a very terrible experience during our check-in. We booked as 2 adult and 1 kids in 7 months ago. When we checked in, the staff said the hotel had changed its policy and children is not welcome and it was not allowed to hv 3 ppl in a room. We hv a book additional room but the hotel was already fully booked. They could offer an upgrade to VIP room with only 100k yen per night. They said it was a expensive option, and it was fine if we didn't accept it. Of coz, we didn't cause that wasnt our fault. I said it was allowed to hv a child with us when we booked it. They said I need to give evidence for that. Luckily, my booking receipt showed ”Child is allowed if they can sleep in the same bed”. After checking, they said they gave us an exception and allowed my kid to stay with us this time. ”But next time, you need to book 2 rooms but u probably won't come again.” We are definitely not coming again. To be honest, the hotel has gd facilities and good location. Amazing views in the bar and common bath. I think if u were couple, it would be fine. But if any issue happens in ur booking, I don't think they would be helpful.

Hotel was super nice! I loved almost everything. The room was very big for Japanese standards and the staff was very professional and fluent in English. Location couldn’t be better, right next to Kyoto Station and a lot of options for shopping and dining. The only thing that was disappointing was the breakfast. They divide it in a western and japanese breakfast. But the western breakfast didn’t really have much western choices. And the coffee was not good. This could be improved. Otherwise it was a perfect stay and I would recommend it. :-)

Our first trip to Japan and Kyoto. Originally, we wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to book a local brand hotel rather than a western hotel, but this was a great choice after 5 nights stay. Very clean, convenient, professional service and staffs, etc.

A celebration of Japanese Kyoto culture, our hotel is just across the Gojo Ohashi Bridge within walking distance of the city’s world-class heritage sites. Osaka, Nara and Kobe, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, is just a 15-minute train ride away. We offer onsite dining featuring a selection of local Kyoto cuisine.

My family and I truly enjoyed staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton Kyoto Higashiyama during our recent trip to Japan. We found the rooms clean and elegant and the food in the restaurant to be very good. However the one thing that truly stood out was the warm and gracious service we received during our stay. Service: The service we received was truly above and beyond expectations. We had flown in on a red-eye flight from Singapore the night before our stay and were dead tired by the time we got to the hotel. The next day, we realized that our camera was missing and checked with the hotel if someone had turned it in. The front desk told us no one had, but then proceeded to help us trace back our steps to the last time we saw our camera at a restaurant in the Osaka airport. They then proceeded to call the restaurant for us and helped schedule a pick-up time for us at the airport lost and found. We are forever grateful for the hotel's front desk's help in finding our camera! Location: The hotel is conveniently located in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto. From the hotel, we were able to easily take short cab rides to local sites such as Kiyomizu-dera and the Kyoto National Museum. The hotel is also conveniently located near Kiyomizu-Gojō Station. Rooms: The rooms were absolutely spotless and clean. The beds were comfortable with thick bedding (perfect since the weather was on the cool side when we were there). The restroom was also split between a room containing the shower and tub with the toilet in a separate room. Dining: At the hotel, we had dinner one night and breakfast the two mornings we were there. Everything that we tried was very well prepared and delicious. At dinner we ordered a variety of plates to share including a salad, pasta, fish dish, and dessert. Breakfast was served in buffet format and included a variety of both Japanese and Western options. Overall we truly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning in the future!

GGuest UserStayed at Kyoritsu Resort for the first time other than La Vista. Put your shoes in the clog box at the entrance like a Japanese-style ryokan. It goes straight up on the tatami mat. I really like the relaxing style, but I'm worried about customers who don't even wipe the carry case. I think it's the same as walking on a tatami mat with bare feet. It would be great if you could use disposable paper towels to wipe at the entrance. The free private bath is a type that you use after washing in the large public bath, just like La Vista. There are hot springs and others. It's enough because you can use the 30-minute time limit. Each person had a luxury of one place. Ice cream after taking a bath, morning drink, and night crying soba are common. As for the third one, I can't participate yet because late hours are heavy on my stomach. Dinner is a Japanese course. Choose from 6 types of obanzai at the end. All types can be refilled and returned. You can choose either rice or noodles for your meal. It's not a luxurious ingredient, but I'm satisfied with the volume and taste. Breakfast is a buffet. How much is common, but everyone seems to be less interested than Tokyo Bay. I had a lot. The room is a compact twin. Shoji screens and bamboo Towa style I want a space to put my bag. Amenity is also a style to bring what you need in common. No waste. Buffet of tea.The variety was delicious. I was also interested in Arashiyama, but I thought that mutual use would be convenient if there was mutual cooperation such as luggage delivery. I saw several staff members in training, but everyone, including the front manager, was kind and comfortable. If you go to Kyoto again, please stop by.

KKI-NRTSeryo is an excellent ryokan that exceeded our expectations. It's situated in Ohara town, located about an hour north of Kyoto, which is an agricultural area known for its fine Kyoto vegetables, its rural beauty, as well as the renowned Sanzen-in and Jakko-in temples (as well as the picturesque Kurama & Kibune towns nearby.) We stayed 2 nights at Seryo.... our main purpose for being in the area was to do the hike from Kurama to Kibune (highly recommended!) While Seryo is not a stone's throw from Kurama or Kibune, it's not far, either - about 15 minutes by car. And, it's right next to Sanzen-in, and overlooks a beautiful valley and the mountains beyond, so the location is actually a plus in many respects. While it's a small, family-run establishment, it also charges luxury ryokan prices. In just about all respects, it delivers a level of comfort, luxury and service that matches the price. First, the room - we stayed at the best room at Seryo, the ”Sakura no Ma Japanese Suite with open-air bath.” I believe it to be the only room on premises that has its own private onsen hot springs bath, and it's pure bliss. if it's available, I'd recommend that you snag it quickly. The room itself was reasonably spacious (although not gargantuan by other luxury ryokan standards, and we would've gladly paid more if they offered an even higher category room), well appointed and came with all of the necessities - toiletries, yukata, free WiFi and even free minibar. It was a nice room to spend our down time in Ohara. And when we felt like taking a walk, not only was there Sanzen-in next door, but also Jikko-in, Hosen-in and and Shorin-in just a few minutes walking distance away - all worth visiting, and all with its own unique charm. The food was good. Not super gourmet like some of the top ryokans in Hakone or Kaga Onsen town, but they did a good job focusing their offerings relying on local ingredients - Ohara is renowned for its amazing produce, and many of Kyoto's finer restaurants (including Michelin 3-star Kitcho) procure many of their vegetables from Ohara. Of particular note was the local Jidori chicken - it was amazing. It was steamed (which is unusual, and doesn't strike me as the best way to cook chicken), but was done amazingly well. It was definitely a memorable dish. Breakfast, on the other hand, was a comparatively spartan affair - not much variety, and quantities were low. If you're hungry, be prepared to scarf down a healthy portion of rice. Service is typical ryokan-like. Courteous, helpful, and a bit inflexible in some areas, namely in terms of meal times. At Seryo, it's strictly 6PM for dinner and 8AM for breakfast. That said, they did make an exception, which gives us hope for Japan :) When we told them we might leave early and skip breakfast (to get a head start on our hike the next day), they said ”how about 7:30 then?” For a small ryokan with rigid schedules (for understandable reasons, mind you), it was a surprisingly graciou

GGuest UserWe couldn't have stayed in a more amazing hotel while in Kyoto. From the first moment we stepped in, we were greeted with hospitality. Every staff member we encountered was respectful and extremely helpful. Our room was well appointed and had more amenities than we could use. Not to mention, the private in room onsen. This was the whole reason we chose this hotel and it did not disappoint. The water was refreshing and you could really feel the healing effects. As for the meals that the hotel provides... I must say both the Japanese set and Western set breakfasts were delightful and had many options. The fresh ingredients and the diligence of the dining staff were impeccable. We felt truly valued as guests. It is safe to say that I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay in Kyoto. We most certainly will be back!

GGuest UserWe were a group of 6 people staying at the Hotel Mitsui on a trek through Japan. Suffice it to say, that the group was all pleased that we stayed here. Our initial check in process was a bit bumpy (no tea service) as it was clear everyone was checking into the hotel for a holiday weekend. However, within 30 minutes, we were all on our way to our rooms. Overall, the hotel and the rooms are designed in muted tones and a modern zen vibe. Where other hotels would simply have drywall covered with pictures, the Mitsui has clearly thought about every surface. We were in a room that looked out to the central garden, which is beautiful. The room had a nice long marble bench at the entrance which was nice for putting shoes on or setting things down to pack / unpack. Further in the room, there is a bar area, desk area and a nice long padded bench by the window. Controls for the room are near the bed and you can dim lights or raise and lower blinds with ease. The bathroom is a very clever design with two pocket door entrances, offering a closet area, double sink, a wet room with tub and shower and rom for the toilet. The room for the toilet is wide and very peaceful. Of course, it comes with the fancy Toto Neorest toilet that raises and lowers the seat automatically, has a heated seat, has a bidet feature and more. The shower offers both a hand held and a rain head that with a fine spray. Bathroom toiletries are crafted for the Hotel Mitsui. Of course, robes were available (just ask if you need a different size). Let’s talk about sleeping…. The bed was among the most comfortable that I have ever tried (firm, with just the right amount of softness). Down pillows and a duvet complete the scene. And course, should you not like your pillow, there is a pillow menu. The rooms at the Mitsui are quiet with blackout shades. At night, gentle nightlights illuminate the path to the bathroom. In all, the sleep experience is well thought out and devine. One of the stand out features of the hotel would be the Thermal Springs in the basement. The Thermal Springs are a modern version of a traditional Japanese onsen. Access is open to everyone in the hotel, but the number of people permitted in is managed to in more than 14 people at a time. You have to call ahead to make sure there is space, but in our case, we were always able to get in. Anyone who out touring in Kyoto, should make time in their busy schedule to visit the Thermal Springs between their tours and dinner - it is a great way to wash off the city and relax before dinner - very civilized. This review is particularly fun for me as our stay at the Mitsui ultimately caused us to break up with our travel agent. He was SO insistent that we stay at the Ritz , he could not imagine trying something new like the Mitsui (nor was he willing o have his team check it out). In the end, I feel vindicated, we loved our stay at the Mitsui and would happily return

TTraveler59599363931My wife’s birthday trip at the Suiran was a dream come true. With successive Covid cancellations, it took us four years of planning, but it was worth the wait. With their traditional Japanese structures and landscaping, the Suiran was our oasis of calm during Kyoto’s busiest season (cherry blossoms). We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and the best breakfasts of our lives in their dining room, and blissful riverside happy hours in their cafe. Our comfortable room had all the amenities, and a soothing minimalist aesthetic. The Suiran staff is spectacular: thoughtful, gracious, attentive. Through our years of planning and days of enjoyment, we were guided by Suiran’s chief concierge, Hiromi Maruyama. Her kindness, patience, and expertise added greatly to the success of our time in Kyoto. Her suggestions and insights, and good spirits were a beacon shining our way. We are indebted to her for her efforts on our behalf.

BBarameeThe best location, you can visit many attractions by walking from hotel!! There is hot springs in hotel, but you need to pay for extra fee. The AC in room didn’t work, we have to sleep without blanket, otherwise we cannot sleep.

TTakakohazenutFirst up: it can get really scary walking thru long, dark, quiet lanes from the Kyoto station to the hotel late at night. Regardless of how safe Japan is, this was one of the few times I got spooked. So please just take a cab from the station and dun try walking if you are arriving close to midnight like I did. In the morning though, and after checking out the area + google maps, I realised the hotel location is rather good if you are taking buses instead of trains. The bus stop to many tourist locations are just a short walk away from the hotel entrance. And in Kyoto, I realised buses are the way to go! So this is the best point about the hotel, in addition to the small public bath. Room is small, old, and because they ran out of non-smoking rooms, the room was really smelly because the cigarette smoke/smell has gone right up into the aircon vents. No matter how much deodorant spray you use, it is futile. So please note if you are a non-smoker. Staff are alright but they hardly can speak English. Also a little inflexible in accommodating requests, such as refusing to help me to heat up some packed food. Breakfast spread is average, same food every day.

DDeercHotel location is decently accessible. Short bus or train ride to Kyoto station and easy to get to many attractions. Free breakfast included, but do get down early if there are many people staying there. Free drinks in the evening with a selection of liquors. Public bath was great, but time limited with both genders using one bath on alternate timings. Also abit on the smaller side. Ammenities was great and staff was friendly. Plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Overall a good place to stay.

Ss-hane-s-hane-sI and my mother stayed there for one night 20000 yen per person, with dinner and breakfast. It was a very comfortable stay. This was more like a hotel, except that we needed to walk around without your own shoes (without getting dirty feet) inside. It was fully booked on that day. We had an earlier check-in, which mean that we could enjoy our relaxing private Onsen bath without standing in line. We also tried the large onsen baths later in the evening after a long walk in the beautiful Arashiyama area nearby. It was hot, but great. One of the baths was outside in a Japanese garden. We got warmed up from the inside out, and had an ice popsicle before we went up to our room for good nights rest. We also enjoyed a huge dinner and breakfast, true local cuisine with typical taste in Kyoto that supposed to be refined and ”delicate” - you shouldn´t expect any strong taste, and correctly cooked. This supposed to be a 3-star-hotel, but the amenity was completed. We didn´t miss anything here. We thought the staff at the front desk were not amazing, but definitely not poor. We didn´t need to deal with them so much as we had good information in written form. Everything was clean and pleasant. Had absolutely nothing to complain. We would definitely love to come back again. My rating is 4 - not more or less. I certainly see that they still have a room for improvement, but overall I didn´t personally understand all the poor reviews.

GGuest UserDear Sir/Madam, I recently had the opportunity to stay at your hotel, and I would like to share my experience with you. First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for the exceptional design and comfort your property offers. Kengo Kuma’s architectural brilliance, with its use of natural wood, thoughtful lighting, and integration of art pieces, creates a stunning and serene atmosphere. Additionally, the comfort of the rooms, the quality of the materials, the size of the beds, and the premium linens were truly impressive. In terms of design and comfort, your hotel sets a remarkable standard. However, I did encounter several service-related issues that I believe could be addressed to enhance the overall guest experience. I would like to share these points in the hope that they are helpful for future improvements: 1. Breakfast Lounge and Sushi Area: The proximity of these two areas creates a strong odor upon entering, which can be unpleasant. Improved ventilation could easily mitigate this issue. 2. Food and Beverage Service After Breakfast: The lack of food and beverage service after breakfast hours was inconvenient. At the very least, providing a space for guests to enjoy tea or coffee would be a welcome addition. 3. Room Service Availability: After a long journey, I was surprised to learn that room service was unavailable and that only rice balls could be provided. Expanding room service options would greatly improve the guest experience. 4. Flexibility with Breakfast Hours: Due to the time difference, I arrived slightly late for breakfast at 10:10 AM and was informed that nothing could be served. Even my request for tea did not receive a clear response. Greater flexibility in accommodating guests dealing with jet lag would be highly appreciated. 5. Lobby Services: The inability to offer anything to drink or even host a guest in the lobby felt restrictive. This could be improved to make the lobby a more welcoming space. 6. Spa Experience: I was unable to experience the renowned Banyan Tree spa as it was fully booked. Expanding spa reservation availability would help meet guest expectations for this signature offering. In summary, while the hotel excels in design and comfort, the service offerings seem to be constrained by rigid rules and limited hours, which can detract from the overall guest experience. I strongly believe that adopting a more flexible, guest-centered approach would significantly enhance satisfaction. If the above issues were addressed, I would certainly consider staying at your hotel again during my next visit to Kyoto. Once again, I want to thank you for the exceptional design and comfort provided during my stay and hope that these suggestions contribute to further elevating your standards. Best regards, next visit to Kyoto.
