"The hotel is just next to the station. We arrived by train on a windy and rainy day and were thankful that it’s just a short walk to the hotel. The room is spacious and the onsen is nice. The carpet is stained but we understand it’s common for hotel after some years. The hotel staff were helpful when we enquire about directions and asked to borrow umbrellas too. Though it rained on both days that we were in Hakodate, we still enjoyed ourselves using the city tram, which station is about 3mins walk across the Jr station. The market is also just less about 3mins walk away. Overall, we enjoyed our stay with the hotel and will stay here again if ever return and will recommend to friends."

"The king-size room was incredibly tiny. With the bed in place, there was hardly any room for luggage; I had to put my suitcase on the narrow table by the window, otherwise, I couldn't even walk around. The staff was quite cold; when I tried to ask about the laundry room, before I could even finish my sentence, he quickly waved his hand and said it wasn't his responsibility. Breakfast was good, with the Japanese options being much richer than the Western ones."

"The location is at the Yunokawa Seaside. The view from the seaside rooms is amazing, and the outdoor hot springs can directly see the sea, which is amazing. However, the room facilities are old and the toilet is not smart. Can you believe that Japanese public toilets are all smart, but the toilet in this hotel is not smart. I went there in winter and it was cold. The experience was terrible. But the price is relatively friendly, so I can only bear it. Next to the hotel is the famous botanical garden, where monkeys take a hot spring bath"

The room was quite spacious. There were coffee beans in the drawer, so we could enjoy coffee and admire the snowy view from our room during the heavy snow. The front desk staff on the first floor were very polite and answered all our questions. Given the cold weather, the free-flow coffee, made with famous Hokkaido coffee beans, was a nice touch. Dinner was at the second-floor restaurant, featuring simple appetizers, a beef hot pot, and all-you-can-eat sushi. I'm not sure if it was because of New Year's Eve, but the service was incredibly slow; several Japanese groups who arrived after us had already finished their meals, and we had only been served three dishes. On the ninth floor, there are three private baths, which were very comfortable for my family to relax and chat in. There's ice cream available for self-service on the tenth floor. After 9:30 PM, the hotel offers warm and comforting ramen, which was a thoughtful touch. There's a convenience store right across from the hotel, and the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses are about a five-minute walk straight ahead. Next door, there's a yakiniku restaurant. I initially thought we wouldn't find any hot food open on New Year's Day, but surprisingly, it was open and there was no queue. For that alone, I'd give it a big thumbs up!

Hakodate Yunokawa Onsen Umi to Akari/Hewitt Resort

The hotels in the Yunokawa Onsen area are generally quite average, and Umi to Akari, which is a Four Points by Marriott, is no exception. However, its price is double what you'd expect. Perhaps I booked too last minute. To be honest, for this price, I'd choose other, higher-end options, and even taking a taxi there to enjoy the hot springs would be more cost-effective. This hotel does offer day-use hot spring access. Here's my experience from a few perspectives: 1. **Hygiene:** You generally don't need to worry about hygiene in Japanese hotels, and this place is no different. 2. **Dining:** I opted for the one-night, two-meal plan, and after checking in, I realized it was the worst decision. The food quality was truly average. Although there was a lot of seafood and unlimited crab legs, it was just… mediocre. I ate one meal and never went back. I'd rather walk across the street to ”Ichimonji” for Hokkaido ramen 🍜. Coincidentally, it was a Japanese holiday, and the breakfast queue was unbelievably long 🤪. 3. **Clientele:** This hotel primarily caters to tour groups. Buses kept pulling up, dropping off loads of tourists, if you catch my drift. 4. **Accommodation:** The bed and pillows were really uncomfortable. I'll spare you the details... 5. **Hot Springs:** Clean, and the quality of the hot spring water was good. It was slightly salty, and my skin felt silky smooth after bathing. There weren't many Chinese guests, and everyone was very particular about hot spring etiquette, maintaining personal space. This was a definite plus (especially with so many tour groups staying there).

Hotel is located close to the station so it was easy access from the airport. We checked in around 20:00 and we booked a bus runs by hotel (2,000yen per person) go to Hakodate mountain to see this famous night view. It was the last two seats so if you are thinking to go better to book in advance. Hotel also runs complementary shuttle bus around the city - easy access to every sightseeing place. Breakfast buffet was great, they have a little their own inconvenient store in the hotel so you don’t have to go out to buy something that you need. The lounge area was also great. after we took a bath we both and ice cream and we sat down there walking at the traditional sea glasses lamps which was pretty good time.

I absolutely love Hanabishi Hotel — I had the best 2-night stay here. The hotel is quiet with no large tour groups, and I really enjoyed the traditional feel and relaxing vibes. I tried all of their room types, and my favorite is the futon room with a private onsen. The futon is very comfortable, and the room itself is incredibly spacious. The staff are friendly and helpful, even assisting me with arranging taxi service. The location is convenient, only about a 10-minute drive from Hakodate Airport. I also loved both the breakfast buffet and the dinner set — they truly pampered me like I was the queen of the world. The public onsen is beautiful and huge. I will forever choose to stay here whenever I’m in the area.

The hotel has a not to be missed ocean view, but the food variety turns out to be the disappointment. Not so much of choice when comparing it with other ryukan. Another places for your attention is that the toilet and the room has a very strong and unpleasant urine smell. Though I cannot find any uncleaned spots in the toilet, the odor is simply untolerable. The onsen at the balcony has human hair from probably the previous customer and the hotel should do better in cleaning it. Food: 7/10 Service: 8.5/10 Hygiene: 5/10 View: 10/10

I'd call this unbeatable. First off, the front desk service was truly above and beyond my expectations. It was snowing heavily, and the bellhop was still waiting outside for guests to arrive, helping with luggage. The outdoor private onsen in the room was also exceptional; the view and atmosphere were incredible. The breakfast, with its unbeatable ocean view, topped it all off. I had a wonderful day in Hakodate!

A rare find at this ocean-view hot spring hotel! Soaking in the hot spring while gazing at the sea, daydreaming, or chatting is simply wonderful! From the moment we arrived, we had a dedicated butler who escorted us to the large lounge for check-in. While their English wasn't fluent, they could communicate in Japanese and Chinese using a translation app, and were very responsible in repeatedly confirming our reservation times. The private hot spring bath we booked was excellent in both its environment and facilities, and both the indoor and outdoor public baths offered ocean views. Cleanliness was impeccable, and the ocean-view room was enormous; we even had albatrosses visiting outside the window. The kaiseki cuisine at breakfast and dinner was absolutely amazing—delicious and beautifully presented—I was extremely satisfied!

The lovely old gentleman serving as at night was one of the best front desk staff I’ve ever met. We originally planned to arrive at the property in the afternoon. However, our flight was cancelled and we had to seek alternative, delaying our arrival time until 23:00. When we arrive, we thought we will be self-checking in. But as we step inside the property from a heavy snow, we saw this kind gentleman waiting for us right at the door. He greeted us, helped us check in, and explained everything clearly. He offered us free flow free drinks and free ice cream (which was also very tasty) When we wanted to have some late night snacks bought from a convenient store, he also helped us reheat the food. 誠にありがとうございます! Everything else was great as well! The room was comfortable, the breakfast was yummy, and it’s so nice to have a hot spring after out in the cold for the entire day.

Absolutely loved it! Falling asleep to the sound of the waves was incredible. It was my first time experiencing an open-air onsen, and I tried both the public bath and the private onsen in my room – both were fantastic! The only minor issue was the lack of power outlets, but overall, it offers great value for money.

The staff at the inn were warm and moderate, and I was very comfortable. While there were many non-smoking rooms, the companion who was a smoker was very happy. In addition, the correspondence of the odor remaining in the room is also firm, and I think it can be comfortable. It's a hot spring, but you can get the power of the source. It is a hot spring of great satisfaction! I want to enter again ♪
