Avoid room 11… We arrived early evening to spend the night prior to meeting family at Gatwick the next day. On arrival everything was as stated until we opened the door to our room… It was like stepping into the locker room at the local gym after a busy evening! The stench of stale sweat and rancid foot odour was simply overpowering. We promptly opened the windows wide (they were shut on arrival) and sat next to them whilst trying to enjoy a much needed cup of tea after a six hour journey. Even with the windows open all night the ‘odour’ remained albeit marginally less cloying. Although the room was clean and tidy nothing could alleviate the awful smell that hung around like a noxious wet blanket. Needless to say, we will not use this facility again.

Nice little hotel if you've got an early flight the next day, as the location is very close to the airport and surprisingly pretty quiet (we didn't hear one plane). Beds were comfy, but pillows weren't the best, but wasn't much of an issue, as we were only in the rooms from 11pm - 3am for a quick nap. The garden seating area was really nice though. We sat out there around 10pm, just to chat & chill. Really nice vibe.

Horrible, horrible place. Very dirty. The hallway and up the stairs absolutely stinks of mould and the rooms are very unkept and in need of an extreme makeover. The bathroom sink and shower absolutely stunk. They make money only from the fact they are so close to Gatwick but do not make any attempt to make the place nice for guests. They don't bother to mention there are stairs up to almost every room and therefore totally inaccessible to many people. They can't even be bothered to meet their guests and just leave keys in envelopes. I guess because they're too embarrassed by the state of their rooms. Yes it's convenient for Gatwick but my goodness please do yourself a favour and do not stay here!! When you do manage to eventually see the owners they are extremely rude! There are many decent places near Gatwick don't bother with this dive!!

OK stay for early flights from Gatwick. Airport shuttle was spot-on in time and costs 15 pounds per room - so 30 pounds two ways. They only took cash in the early morning (I understand card would've been ok during day-time). An ATM machine could be found 15 min walk away in TESCO.

Very convenient location for an early departure from Gatwick the following day. Reasonable price for room only with tea/ coffee making facilities with over night parking free. Bed was very comfortable. We would certainly book again if flying from Gatwick. This accommodation also offers longer stay parking and taxi to the Airport so worth enquiring as we will probably do next time.

Had an early flight booked at Gatwick (7am), so decided to book a nearby hotel. The reasons I haven't given this hotel a 1 star is because of the location and the room itself being clean with a nice shower. The reason I'm giving it a bad review is that I got roughly 2 hours sleep, which made me feel so ill after the flight, that I ended up throwing up at the side of the road in Spain. This was because of 2 absolute anchors staying in a room nearby shouting to each other until gone 3am, despite me shouting shut up multiple times. There's no reception at this place to complain to, you collect you key from an envelope in the entrance.

The Hookwood Lodge could not be more perfect for a pre or post flight stay if you are flying from Gatwick, or longer stay if you are exploring some of the stunning National Trust parks or walks nearby. There is a terrific pub/dining within an easy few minutes walk and the lodge itself was really comfortable, we slept like babies and would not hesitate to go again !
