Absolute great find . Stayed here as a stop over on route home from London and to visit family. Lovely place to stay . Staff are so helpful and friendly. Evening meal was excellent, as was breakfast, plenty of choice . Rooms were clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again .

We stayed for one night, a good-sized clean room had everything we needed. We booked to eat in restaurant food was lovely (steak pie...wow) with good service. Breakfast in the morning was good, with continental items available to help yourself and a menu to choose from for cooked items etc. We were out in the evening returning at 11pm so no issues with noise. Staff friendly, I would look to stay here again.

The décor, despite the lovely Christmas decorations are excellent, great taste & making good use of the old but modernised building. The rooms were warm and comfortable and of course spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the hotel/Pub. Training is extremely evident and staff were proud of their place of work. The restaurant food excellent not too big a menu but good use of local produce cooked with care & good knowledge. Bar & Restaurant staff were friendly and very attentive without being intrusive led by good management. Team work was evident through out. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. The only down side was we were only there for 1 night!

We went for a meal in the restaurant yesterday and were very disappointed. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the service was poor; we were told there would be a 25 minute wait but it was over 40 minutes. The roast potatoes and roast parsnip were rock hard and almost impossible to attack, the other vegetables were nice but only just warm, although we did get some extra and hot ones when we asked. I had the nut roast which was just like a soggy lump of stuffing and I think they had forgotten to put the nuts in it, and not everyone was happy with their roast beef. Two friends had the steak and guiness pie but again were disappointed as it wasn't nice chunks of meat as they had expected, more like mince. We won't be coming back. However, the ambience was very nice.

Second time I’ve been to the jug and bottle restaurant and second time I’ve been disappointed with the average food and prices a bit expensive for what you get. Waitress was very professional and friendly.Don’t think I’d eat here again though.

Excellent stay...friendly, helpful staff...very comfortable rooms...Nice views over the Dee in the distance...a quick walk via the park to a range of restuarants on the High Street. Great stop-over for a visit to Port Sunlight and the following day to St. Asaph (Castle and Cathedral). We (four of us...four rooms) only stayed for one night, but would have been more than happy to stay longer had our time permitted....

My absolute favorite place to stay on the Wirral. Centrally located in Heswall, close to shops and the center of town. A pub/restaurant on the ground floor, with several quiet and comfy cozy rooms above, the Jug provides everything you need for a relaxing few days discovering the amazing beauty of the Wirral. Management and the employees have always gone out of their way to make me feel at home, and I do. Delicious dining in the restaurant, and a lovely pub with fireplace, where the locals love to meet. Love the Jug.

My wife and I frequently cross on the Belfast/Birkenhead ferry and we tried a number of accommodation options near to Birkenhead. The day ferries dock at 1830 and leave at 1030 so, for a relaxed experience, it's nice to have somewhere to stay the night of arrival and the night before departure. Everywhere we tried was disappointing until we discovered the J&B, which now feels like a second home. We have stayed half a dozen times. We arrive early evening and the pub is invariably a hive of good-hearted bustle. Andy and his team give us a warm welcome and we know most of them by name. The rooms are comfortable and the food is fantastic. There is always a selection of well-kept local real ales. We are treated to a truly fabulous breakfast before our return ferry to Belfast. Attention to detail is superb - real crusty toast, not 'plastic pan', and scrummy home-made granola. On this occasion we stayed two nights on arrival in GB and the first was spoiled by a boiler malfunction meaning no heat or hot water in our room. We were impressed to see a maintenance team hard at work within a few hours and our second night was warm and cosy. On checking out the cost of the first night's accommodation had been totally subtracted from our bill, without the need for a grumble or the usual argy-bargy! These GB visits 'bookended' by the J&B are usually for a specific social event, but we sometimes look forward more to the J&B experience than the event itself! We're already looking forward to our next visit.
