A TRUE BNB with a real breakfast and clean comfortable bed and room just 15 min west of Durango. We just returned and had an enjoyable stay at this beautiful and serene BnB. So glad we stayed here instead of a usual hotel in Durango. The Mesa Verde room was like staying in a room in the attic. The bedroom was up one flight of narrow stairs and the nice warm bath and mini-kitchen were downstairs. Prob not a good set-up for mobility challenged so ask questions and choose a room that's a good fit for you. We took the short stroll to the lake and sat and enjoyed the quiet peaceful view. Breakfast was hearty: eggs, toasty hashbrowns, sausage, granola (prob not homemade), fruit, bread & pastry selection, Blue Lake Ranch jam, coffee & juice. The main 'house' is unique lovely architecture with brick floors and Spanish decor similar to places we stayed in Santa Fe (Santa Fe cost is much higher). Kind helpful staff. We will be back!

We recently stayed for two nights at the Blue Lake Ranch, while exploring Durango and Mesa Verde National Park. The good. Very nice staff, easy check in and off the beaten path. We stayed in the Garden Room which like the rest of the place was in desperate need of renovation. While the bed was comfortable the furniture reminded me of my Grandmother's basement in the 80's. Mismatched, worn out furniture that needs to be replaced. Bathroom had a 1970's playboy mansion vibe but it worked. I must say, it's been a lifetime since I've seen a mint green toilet but again it did its job. Breakfast was adequate. Fresh fruit, eggs, lots of barely cooked bacon and prepackaged breads and muffins. The highlight was the french toast casserole which was almost like bread pudding and was delicious. It was extremely quiet and again, the staff were friendly but we probably won't return.

I really wanted to like Blue Lake Ranch. Durango was busy with a biker rally for Labor Day weekend so I felt fortunate that we would be outside of town. It did allow the quiet that staying in town wouldn’t have provided. We stayed in the Cedar Casita which is in need of some basic maintenance. All of the blinds needed replacing, some of the slats were broken, raising and lowering of them took effort and there were knots in the strings that made that challenging. The blinds and the curtain panels didn’t allow the ability to completely darken the room. The mattress needs to be replaced. The AC is an evaporator system that did cool the room. The transom window in the bedroom needed some repair. I was met by a small rodent in the shower which I was willing to chalk up to being in the country until I later read another review that another guest had the same problem. It has so much potential to be a beautiful place to stay. Currently feels in need of TLC that at this price point should be a given. Breakfast was fine for what we needed and the staff accommodated our early train ride time. Everyone in the main house was very nice. I wouldn’t stay again.

What a wonderful stay. Wish we’d stayed more than one night. We were welcomed upon arrival by the owner. Being out in the country, it was nice to have the option of sharing a bottle of wine and charcuterie board for dinner. We enjoyed sitting by the fountain, watching the birds. I enjoyed walking the paths. Felt secluded and peaceful. The breakfast was delicious.

We really enjoyed our stay at Blue Lake Ranch. The property was fantastic. Lots of birds and a few deer walking around. There’s so many places to sit and enjoy the views. Our room was wonderful. Our room was spacious and very relaxing, with a patio in back. Our only regret is, we did not get to stay longer.

Beautiful setting, great breakfast, professional and friendly staff. The bed and breakfast is about 15-20 minutes from Durango. Stayed in the Cabin by the Lake. Cabin was perfect for our family of 10. Three floors each with a bedroom and bathroom. Full kitchen on middle floor. Two large decks overlooking the lake. Kids had fun feeding the turtles in the lake while the fisherman fished a private portion of the gold medal waters of the Animas River with access provided by Shirley the owner of Blue Lake Ranch. Fished parts of two days and caught and released around 150 mostly rainbow trout and a few brown trout. Largest rainbow was 3-3 1/2# and the largest brown was a trophy weighing around 6# and 22”long. Took the train to Silverton also visited Mesa Verde and even took an afternoon trip to Telluride. All three of these are must do’s while there. Blue Lake Ranch is the perfect hub for activities around the Durango area. Will definitely stay here next time in Durango!

This is the third time I’ve stayed at Blue Lake Ranch: a room; a casita, and a cottage. The lodging options are all superb. This B&B is outstanding in every way: stunning location; gorgeous flowers; delicious breakfasts. And it’s conveniently located to see the many sights in SW Colorado.

The casita we stayed in was beautiful. The decor was nice. The beds were comfortable. The room had a nice whirlpool tub. The paths on the grounds were nice but could be cleaned up a bit. The only disappointing thing was the breakfast. Based on their website I expected something fabulous. What we got was soggy, stale waffles, dried out pastries that were cut into one-inch squares, some fruit, and awful coffee. We overheard the next table ask about eggs. My husband asked too. The woman said she didn’t make any that day but could whip up some. I happened to see a bowl of cold scrambled eggs covered with plastic wrap on the cutting board. She put a few spoonfuls of that on two plates, one for each table. It was embarrassing and extremely disappointing. After all the hype about the wonderful breakfast - we had a better breakfast at the Hampton Inn the next night of our travels. The rest of the stay was lovely but don’t get your hopes up about the breakfast.
