An absolutely wonderful hotel! We spent two weeks staying here and it was excellent.
When I booked this holiday, I did so at fairly short notice without looking in great detail at the different options. This hotel was affordable and looked good but given the price, I wasn't necessarily expecting much. I was so surprised at how beautiful it was.
The breakfast is served at a nearby cafe and the food is gorgeous. The square outside the cafe is coming towards the end of its renovations but it's clear it's going look brilliant. The staff there are attentive and exceptionally polite.
It's a small, quiet hotel on a backstreet meaning there is limited footfall. I'll be honest, when I initially arrived, the area street was a little rundown but this isn't atypical for Heraklion as an old city.
Don't be fooled - it's safe with easy access to town (15 min walk to the sea), beaches and the Palace of Knossos (3 min to a bus stop, 20-30min to the beach or Knossos). You can walk to anything you need very, very easily and there are plenty of eateries to go to nearby.
There is a fridge in the room plus a coffee maker and a kettle. The aircon is excellent (though with it being so hot and us being in the biggest room, it took a few hours to kick in intially on day one, but after this, the room kept the cool even if we turned the AC off when we were out and about).
Finally, Marazakis who owns the hotel has his own wonderful story. We had one issue with the AC and he was there with 10 min
