My wife and I stayed for one night and this was our first visit to Hotel Madison. The hotel is nicely appointed with appropriate decor and amenities one would reasonably expect for the room rate. Check in seemed chaotic with the front desk appearing overwhelmed. We were given our room key but no further instructions about where elevators were, what floor we were on, or any other amenities of the hotel. In their defense, it appeared there were a couple of large wedding parties checking in and the front desk acknowledged as much to the logistic challenges of handling a large influx of guests at one time. The room was up to our expectations; it was clean with linens and furnishings in place, comfortable room temperature, and a generous allotment of towels. Our issue is the hotel’s lack of adequate “insulation” from noise emanating from surrounding rooms and guests in hallways. You could easily here sounds from the neighboring room, especially the guests who left their TV on. In addition, the wedding party that had checked in came back around 1:30am and were obnoxiously loud. The commotion was of such a nature that we were at the point of getting up to address the situation, but mercifully they went into their rooms to retire. Not sure what the hotel can do to address the situation, but something needs to be done to provide a more quality stay because it affords very little privacy. To that end, we will think twice about booking future stays. The location is great given our daughter is a freshman at JMU, but while location is important, we need to consider other variables that lend to a quality stay. Of final note, upon checkout, the front desk did not inquire about our stay, did not thank us for our patronage, nor invite us back. We are not the type of people who need this level of engagement; I mention it not because we were upset by the inattentive behavior, but hopefully as a coaching moment should someone from the hotel read this review.
