Element Hampton Peninsula Town Center

Back again for another go and figure I'd share some tips. I've stayed at this property many times and there is always an issue. During, and just after COVID, it was the condition of the rooms: chipping paint/drywall, carpet stains, broken window shades, terribly limp pillows, missing towel racks, etc. Most of those issues are gone and the basic maintenance appears to have improved. This time, around, it's the service (which previously had been pretty good). I'm a Bonvoy Platinum but realize my status holds no value at Element properties, but figured I'd ask for a 2nd floor room (laundry room is on this floor) that faced outside, not the courtyard (as others have noted, it's awkward to face other rooms). I was assigned a 3rd floor room and told the only other option was a first floor room (not great; people walk by and can peer inside if your shades aren't drawn). I was told the hotel was fully booked (not true; the parking lot is relatively empty and they're still selling rooms for my dates) but knew a protest was fruitless. The room I received also has the permanently sticky floor that others have noted (I tried cleaning it with Clorox), a safe that was still locked on arrival, a fridge that is not cold enough to store perishables, malfunctioning bedside lights that leave the room really dark, and a shower handle that doesn't appear to support anything but hot or scalding hot temps. Worst of all, when I raised the issue with the desk clerk, she noted maintenance wasn't available (it was a Sunday). I messaged the front desk on Monday through the Bonvoy app to remind them but haven't received a response (it's been nearly four hours). I have spent thousands of dollars at this property over the years but may have finally hit my breaking point. The nearby Hyatt Place is a solid alternative for road warriors, even if you're a devout Bonvoy member.

Do not let the photographs of this place fool you! This place is not even a point on a star. It’s a fuc£, suck and duck MOTEL! It’s FILTHY and that is putting it nicely. There is dog sh!+ in the grass, people are hanging out in the parking lot all hours. You pray your car is there when you wake up in the morning. The lobby hotel smelled like mildew and must. There was a $20 fee to check in early, which was ridiculous! They had the audacity to offer breakfast! Who in their right mind would sleep here, no way I would EAT here! The beds are on plats with no box spring. The spring in the bed popped and sounded like someone shot into the room! You have to be a size 2 to fit in the bathroom and not taller than 5’2” to use the shower. The shower curtain looked as if it hadn’t been washed EVER! There was not enough Clorox wipes and Lysol to make it past one night. A lesson learned and will not be back! See the pictures!
Holiday Inn Express Hampton - Coliseum Central

Although I only stayed for a night, this was one of the best stays I've had at a Holiday Inn Express! Michelle at the Front Desk was super helpful and polite, and seemed to genuinely care about guest experience and customer service. Hotel is very clean, room had a great layout, not the same boring hotel room. Clean, convenient, and comfortable. The gym was more than adequate for a quick ”travel” workout before heading off to a day of meetings. I really enjoyed staying here and will certainly be back.

Studio 6 Hampton, VA - Langley AFB Area

Second cheapest overnight stay in the area. Queen bed for $111 total. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $50 for another place. Trust me, it’ll be worth it. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is that staff was friendly and accommodated my early check in - 1:30 pm instead of 3pm - I was cross eyed from travel exhaustion. I don’t know if all Studio 6/Motel 6 are like this but because of my experience, I will never stay at any of these. Walked in the bedroom to a sticky floor. Like someone spilled soda and just let it dry. I laid out the towels from the bathroom to the bed in case I had to walk barefoot in the middle of the night. Otherwise, shoes on 100% of the time. Couldn’t even walk around in my socks. The toilet seat had caked on detergent. Took a washcloth and scrubbed it off. Then another washcloth to wipe off the suds. Commode was definitely clean after I finished washing it. Shower head flange was coming off the wall and there was a cockroach hanging out by the drywall opening. They supply only 1 hand soap - no shampoo, no lotion, just 1 hand soap. Bed linens were clean, so that’s something. Why did I stay you ask after this review… 1. I was by myself 2. All I wanted was a place to sleep, shower, and toilet - seemed like after washing the commode myself, covering the shower head hole with the flange to hold off the cockroach(es), and the minimum clean sheets in the bed was enough - at that time 3. I was too exhausted (hence the early check in request) to ask for another room. 4. Chances of getting a better room with my early check in I felt was slim to none 5. Didn’t want the hassle of getting a refund and trying to find a room on short notice. Lesson learned. Never again.
