Hotels Near La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City

I arrived on September 17th 1:12 pm to check in to this hotel. The receptionist guy said check in was not until 3:00pm. I could have sworn I saw something on the hotels.com website that said there was a 2 hour early check in option. Pretty sure I chose it. Not sure how it didn't register. So I decided to check out the restaurant. I sat down and was greeted but a waiter. He said, we have great buffet with bla bla bla bla” I can't remember but he was REALLY trying to sell it. So I took a look at the buffet. It looked alright. There was no price visible anywhere so I didn't know how much it was. I asked the waiter and he told me to wait. He went to some room to get a scratch piece of paper. He wrote the price on the paper. It was kinda vague and his hand writing was strange. I had to ask him 3 times to clarify the price. He finally said “$34 for the lunch buffet”..... I immediately grabbed my bags and walked out. I've been all over the world and can't remember paying anywhere near that much for a lunch buffet. Not even in Europe. Around 3:00pm I was given my room key and room number. Took the elevator to room 802. It was a pretty nice room overall. The refrigerator didn't work though. Later on that night I asked some receptionist guy if I could get my refrigerator replaced. He said he would make a note of it and first thing in the morning it would be replaced. It wasn't. Around noon time the next day I went down the reception and asked a lady if she had any notes about someone needing a refrigerator replaced. Instead of answering my question she asked what my room number was. I again asked her if the receptionist guy from last night passed on the information. She again wouldn't answer and kept asking for my room number. This went on about 3 minutes or so. She then asked my name. I told her. She used this to find my room number. Still no answers about why I still had no replacement refrigerator and if any info was passed on from last night. She said I would get a replacement refrigerator soon. I didn't. Around 4:00pm I heard some cleaning ladies in the hall. I told her my refrigerator didn't work and asked them if I could get one from a near by room. She said, “OK sure”. She even carried it to my room as I grabbed the broke one and placed it in the hall. So in short... The receptionists suck at this hotel. Bathroom: Its pretty nice. The ventilation fan didn't work though. Gym: It's pretty darn good. Only thing missing was a flat bench press. There is a 45lbs bar laying on the floor though. So I am guessing this gym did have one at some point in time. The gym closes at 9:00pm. Which is still better than the Grand Tikal Futura which closes at 7:30pm. WiFi: It was good overall. It has that quirky log in system though. So after a minute of so of no activity on your smart phone it will disconnect. And you have the repeat the process over again. Breakfast: Overall it's pretty good. No buffet. Just

We loved Barcelo Guatemala City hotel. We arrived around 7 pm at the airport, the shuttle driver was already waiting for us at the arrival area, the hotel had nice, clean van and it’s only 5 minutes from the airport. Fast check in, the hotel is big and clean, our room was on the 8th floor with 2 balconies. We had a king bed and they provided us with 2 bottled water and a tray of fruits. They have a pool but we didn’t have enough time to enjoy it. Breakfast was very nice, they have different guatemalan food choices for breakfast everyday like fajita, plantains, beans. They also have the usual eggs, bread, cheeses, yogurt, cold cuts and lots of fresh fruits. The servers were so kind. We also ate at the restaurants inside the hotel, Kyoto for japanese cuisine and Strikers for american food. We exchanged currency at the front desk everyday since we don’t know how much money we will spend for every tour. We made Barcelo our base hotel and took tours everyday. We did Hobbitenango, Antigua, Chichicastenango, Guatemala city tour and Lake Atitlan with San Juan la Laguna, which we all booked via Viator, we were lucky that most tours it was only the 2 of us. There is a supermarket Paiz just one block from the hotel where we bought drinks and snacks. The area is very safe and the hotel has 24/7 guards at the lobby and gate. We also booked the shuttle going back to the airport, our flight was at 6am and we took the first shuttle at 4 am, plenty of time to get to the airport, security and immigration. Cleaning begins when guests check in. Ask guests to wait at the front desk for the normal time when checking in. The first room I was given was outside the window in a narrow inner courtyard with poor air circulation and sight lines... Needless to say, I went to the front desk to change rooms. The other female leader at the front desk was more enthusiastic and more enthusiastic than the first female staff member. Much better, but still waiting for the room to be ready before check-in. My check-in time was nearly 8pm. I want to ask: Does a five-star hotel not clean the room in the afternoon? Do you have to wait until guests arrive to clean?

My room had 3 double beds with a sofa and a huge TV. The view was straight into the Courtyard Marriott across the street. However it was very comfortable. There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance. the Oakland mall and Dollar City are about 15 mins walk from the hotel.

The hotel itself is fine, reasonably close to the airport; this is essential due to the horrific traffic during rush hours in this overcrowded city. But Do Not Eat here. Their restaurant is likely to become known as Worst Western Plus soon. With a limited menu, you'd think their cooks could handle the entrees, but that is not the case--they are incompetent and amateurish at best. We attempted to order pizzas but after a few minutes were told we'd have to wait 2 hours since the oven was broken. So we ordered some pasta entrees listed, and were served inaccurate items and very poorly prepared food. Stay here if you want, but eat at one of the nearby chain restaurants instead. The Best Western chain will truly be ashamed if they check out their restaurant on this property.

I've been a loyal customer, staying at this hotel on average twice a year for the past 25 years. Yes, that includes the period prior to the hotel being a Hilton. The last time I stayed I had an issue with the reception desk, but now it was worse. Turns out that I was ”upgraded” to a Jr. Suite, something I didn't want because most of the upgraded rooms face the loud highway. I explained that I preferred a garden facing room regardless of the upgrade, but they couldn't accommodate me because they had no availability of those rooms. So, I accepted the upgrade, but because the room wasn't ready, I left telling the front desk that I would be back later that night. I came back close to 9:00pm to find that indeed my room was facing the highway, but then the surprise...the room had no windows! Oh yes, there was glass where windows were supposed to be, but they were frosted or white. Needless to say, you couldn't see out and it felt like a cave! Well, it was late so I decide to go to sleep and deal with it in the morning. Morning came, I went to the front desk and told them how unhappy I was and that the room was unacceptable and that I wanted to leave given that they couldn't accommodate my request. Well, to my surprise they were going to charge me the penalty for checking out early. I explained that it was not my fault, that they should check with the manager. They then offered a room next to the elevator which I declined. Explaining that it was okay if they had no availability, and that I would just leave. No issue, those things happen and I would be back another time. I went back to the room to gather my bags came back to the front desk to check out and yes, the manager had said NO to my request to not charge the penalty so I had to pay the $25 plus tax. What a stupid move by the hotel, after 25 years, they had lost a client for $25. Amazing! Of course I will never stay at the hotel ever again and will do what I can to tell everyone my story.

After comparing the official website and Ctrip, I think Ctrip booking is done in seconds. The front desk staff is very enthusiastic and the room is very clean. The only thing to complain about is that the front desk is on the top floor instead of the first floor. We arrived at around 9pm, and there was no staff downstairs to help with luggage... The location is in the city center, and it is very convenient to go to the airport. Go downstairs and turn the corner to the church square, where there are many delicious foods. Find an open-air location in the evening, it is very photogenic.

I've visited Casa Santo Domingo a few times for events, but this was my first time staying. It's a lovely, dramatic hotel. Fixtures and decore of the rooms is a bit dated, but the hotel is built around a historic experience. Morning and afternoon coffee and morning sweetbread was excellent. Pool is lovely and there is a really nice green space for kids to run around. Returned in the evening to light jazz playing on the TV and the room straightened, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately did not have the chance to visit the restaurant, but the Guatemalan food buffet has a great reputation. The underground parking (free) is a great benefit.

Beautiful colonial hotel in a fantastic location in Antigua, it has a beautiful rooftop with a great view of the city with the added feature of the “I love Antigua” sign. In the rooftop you can go for drinks, a romantic date or simply grab a bite. The room was big, comfortable and kudos to the renovated bathrooms with a great shower. Everyone was very nice, overall great experience
