Hotel Corps de Garde

This hotel was established on a canal in 1634 to house the town guards at one of the entrances to the city. It ia a charming hotel with some truly amazing rooms. While staying in the hotel last September, we were given the corner room on the 2nd floor at the front - it was huge and very old world. The food in the restaurant is first-rate. This hotel offers a great value for the price.

We stayed in this hotel for a short visit in Groningen during a business trip. It is a very pleasant place to stay, with nice rooms (especially the ones on the top floors) for a good price. The breakfast is good. The staff was very friendly and service minded. All in all definitely a place I will come back to when I visit Groningen again.

Situated in a great central location. Welcome drinks at check in. Lovely, friendly, helpful staff. Cafe/reception area is unique with a library theme. Large bedroom with balcony, great shower, comfortable bed.

Hotel Corps de Garde is a terrific hotel in Groningen located in the city centre area right along the canal. The hotel is a converted historic building with an original classic exterior and a modern, updated interior. We had to follow a bit of a maze of hallways and stairways to reach our room. We were in room 15, which was a fairly good sized room and a bit quirky with regards to the bathroom. The sink was in the sleeping area and there was a separate toilet stall and another separate shower stall, both with frosted glass doors. It was a little different. The staff was very helpful and welcoming and even recommended a great place for authentic dutch food for dinner. (Roezemoles). Breakfast is served in a large, comfortable cafe/lounge area. There are a few choices for breakfast, appropriately named The Big Breakfast and The Small Breakfast. The location of the hotel is ideal for visiting Groningen, which is a very pleasant city in which to walk around. It is situated right on the canal that encircles the city centre. The Grote Markt and the Centrum area are only a 5-10 minute walk away. And just across the street from the hotel is the cleanest, brightest underground parkade that I have ever seen. Groningen is a very lovely city to visit and we look forward to spending time there again, when we definitely will stay at the Hotel Corps de Garde.

Overall, clean, beautiful, with great breakfast, and restaurant/lobby area in a good location and with extremely helpful & friendly staff. I showed up with a last minute booking via ********** but unfortunately, due to technical error, no room was reserved / available for me. They booked me in the last available room at their sister hotel, so at least I had a place to stay, but, unfortunately, the last available rooom was without much natural light, extremely loud during night, and with intermittent wi-fi and quite different than what I was expecting. The next day, I moved over to Hotel Corps de Garde and it was everything I did expect: good sized room full of light, excellent internet, and good breakfast. I liked it so much, I decided to extend my stay there a few more days.
