The place where we stayed in Gizo was Rekona lodge. According to Chinese parlance, it should be a B&B. The price is very reasonable, staying for four nights is only RMB 1,361. Rekona lodge is very close to the ferry terminal, just a five-minute walk. The store has a quiet environment and an exclusive courtyard filled with flowers and trees of various colors, just like a botanical garden. There is a kitchen inside so you can cook your own meals.

Was sad to check out and leave today after a very nice stay. My room really grew on me and felt so homely, I didn’t want to leave. As with many places I’ve stayed throughout the Pacific, it’s the people (owners and staff) that really make a place. And as others have stated, Jordie is absolutely lovely and her friendly smile and help with arranging transport etc. really makes a difference, and Ivan is a great guy too. They really take an interest in their guests and their travels and making their stay enjoyable. My room was upstairs and had a lovely balcony with table and chairs and a glimpses of a sea view through the trees (if one of the boys could just trim the tops off those trees it would be a great view!), and all the amenities I needed - air conditioning (crucial) and fan, very good Wi-Fi (most grateful), small fridge, own bathroom, surprisingly good lighting - and a kettle that worked - and tea bags and sugar (but no milk / creamer / milk powder so I didn’t use, though I never asked - and the local stores sell UHT milk and creamer). The room itself also had a double and a single bed, with pretty new mattresses (yes I looked!) and perfectly comfortable… as well as 3 comfortable chairs and a good size coffee table (perfect as I made simple meals in my room given there’s not many eateries in Gizo) The sink has only a cold tap and the hot water for the shower is out at the moment but honestly you’re so hot when you get back to your room that a tepid shower is all you want - I probably wouldn’t have used hot water even if it was working. Anyway they’re working on getting it fixed… maintenance is never easy in such places. (Travellers new to the Pacific should bear that in mind - also that basic utilities in these places like running water, Wi-Fi, and especially electricity, cost more than in our own countries - the bulk of our room rate goes on electricity, not to the owners, so please be thoughtful and switch everything off, especially the a/c, when going out for the day). And as others have mentioned the whole place is clean and tidy, not just the rooms. In fact the sliding windows in my room were so clean, when I first entered I thought they were open. My windows at home are never that clean! And the sea is right there - they must clean them between every guest! Would definitely stay again if back in Gizo for more diving (oh yeah - it’s probably the closest accommodation to Dive Gizo - just 7-8 minutes walk, and just around the corner from the BSP bank with two ATMs, and plenty of shops nearby for supplies.

Friendly & Economical This basic accomodation has all the key elements ... a good shower, good bed, good WiFi, good aircon. It's not the Ritz, but excellent value - there's a shared kitchen if you want to do your own cooking. The team are friendly too ... which always helps.

Nice refuge in Gizo town A bit of a sanctuary in otherwise rather stressed Gizo town. Beautiful gardens and very helpful staff. Room was comfortable and wifi worked well. Solomons is expensive so price a bit dear but not out of line.

I stayed at Rekona Lodge for nearly 2 months during my medical elective working at Gizo Hospital. I had the most amazing time and could not recommend Rekona enough. Jordie and the rest of the team as so friendly and whilst there were occasionally issues with the water pump and air conditioning, they sorted these as quickly as they possible. They are also on hand to answer any queries and help organise boats to the airport/surrounding islands. I stayed in one of the more premium rooms thanks to the long stay discount, which included a fan, air-con, fridge, balcony, ensuite and free wifi. The room was cleaned daily and laundry was done very efficiently without you having to ask. The kitchen has everything you need and is rarely busy, and the Lodge is in a convenient location for everything Gizo has to offer. Thank you all for an amazing time in Gizo and I hope to return one day!

3 generations of my family stayed with Ivan at Rekona Lodge in Gizo during June 2023. Our rooms were spotless, comfortable and well priced. Pick up was arranged from the island airstrip off shore and Ivan met us at the wharf with a car as it was raining. We opted for meals (dinner and breakfast) at the lodge and they were excellent .. prepared and served with a smile. The staff were particularly kind to my grandchildren aged 8 and 9. We now have wonderful memories of our Solomon Islands trip. … thank you Ivan and all the staff. We hope to be lucky enough to return in the future.

We will definitely stay again at the Rekona Lodge when we return to Gizo. All the facilities were as advertised including hot water in the shower. The proximity to town is perfect, close enough to be an easy walk but far enough to be away from any noise. Our two highlights though would be the outstanding friendly service by Kila, Jordie and their team and the fantastic dinner they cooked for us. Solomon hospitality and food at its best.

I stayed at Rekona Lodge for around 8 weeks whilst working at nearby Gizo Hospital, as a medical student. The lodge is family run, and all the staff were incredibly kind and so helpful, they were always on hand for a friendly chat and to deal with any questions/issues. The lodge has a range of rooms: cheaper rooms which are fan cooled with either shared bathroom or ensuite, and some more expensive a/c rooms which all have an ensuite, which caters to all budgets. I stayed in an ensuite, fan cooled room to keep my cost down (if you are a medical student they may offer discount on some rooms). My room was cleaned and sheets/towels changed very frequently. They provided laundry and meal services on request, and helped to arrange the boat transfers to/from Nusatupe airport. They have a shared kitchen, which is fairly basic but well equipped with two camp stoves, plenty of pots/pans, utensils, toaster and shared fridge/freezer. This was always clean despite being shared between all of the rooms. It would sometimes be quite busy when there were lots of guests, but this was rarely an issue. The location was perfect, with a short 10min walk to the hospital, 5min to Dive Gizo, 8min to the market and only a stones throw from some shops + the ATM. Also the lodge is only a short walk to any of the jetty's in town, in order to get a boat to explore surrounding islands! Jordie on reception was a great help in contacting and helping to arrange boat trips with Davis, a family friend. There is also free wifi in reception, the kitchen, and some of the rooms - which is a rarity in Gizo! Overall I had an amazing stay and felt very welcome in Gizo from the outset due to the amazing staff at Rekona. Despite accommodation not being cheap in Gizo, the service provided by all the staff (especially Jordie and Ivan) was priceless and a huge help as a solo traveller! Thank you all for such a wonderful stay, I miss Gizo already!

Stayed for 3 nights whilst on working holiday. Clean, cool, airy well furnished rooms with new air-conditioning and a deck with a filtered few of the bay and extinct volcano. Jordie and Ivan were very kind to us. Its a 5 min walk to the Gizo dive and a 7min walk to the market where we bought some fresh fish which Jordie and staff helped us prepare for dinner in the kitchen. When we organise another trip to Gizo we hope Jordie and Ivan are still here.
