I stayed for two weeks in the Holiday Inn, Akkerhage 2, Ghent. I really enjoyed my time there. I had a lovely, spacious, spotless room on the fifth floor. The staff are really lovely and so helpful, particularly the breakfast staff and the housekeeping staff. The local bus service is excellent and frequent. The hotel bar is a comfortable spot and the food there is top-class. Thanks to all the staff of this hotel for a warm, comfortable and friendly stay. Highly recommended.

Myself and my wife stayed here for just one night on a mini tour of Belgium. We wish we had stayed here the whole week and just driven to the other places we visited and returned in the evening. 1. The whole hotel was spotless. 2. The bed was so comfortable, we could have stayed in it all day as well, we slept like new born babies. 3. The whole room was very well laid out, with everything to meet our expectations of an exceptional hotel. 4. Every member of staff was so nice and polite. They made time for just general chat if wanted. They offered so much advice on what to do in the town. We were checked in by Frank, a really nice, well spoken man who spoke several languages and was so easy to understand. We also met a guy on reception, apologies for getting his name wrong, but I think he was called Woojer. The chef made sure everything was prepared as we wanted it, even the lady cleaning was lovely. I didn’t get to meet the owner/manager, but my wife did and she said he was so helpful. 5. The hotel has a spa, which you book for your own use, lock the door and it’s yours for an hour. You can even use it more than once a day, which is included in the fee paid. The hotel was only a year old but everything looked brand new. 6. It was only a few minutes slow walk into the main centre of town. I could go on about this lovely hotel, but everything was perfect. We can’t recommend this hotel highly enough, and for reference, we are genuine tourists and no connection to the hotel or staff, so everything said above is genuine. We will be returning here next year. Thanks to the team, you made our holiday, shame it was only 1 night.

Location very central, if there is no construction site in front of the door and considerate guests are around one in the rooms, it is certainly also quiet. The bathroom was very narrow in the double room. Otherwise, everything is fine!

In a city brimming with history at every corner, the NH Collection Gent, formerly known as NH Gent Belfort, balances Ghent’s past with a healthy dose of refined Belgian modernity. Firmly in Ghent’s city center, the hotel stands next to the Belfry, a bell tower dating to the 14th century, and an enduring symbol of Ghent’s independence. Within a few city blocks, other city sites are a short walk away including Stadhuis (the Town Hall), Gravensteen, a castle from the Middle Ages, Korenmarkt and Graslei Harbor. The hotel is also located in close proximity to performing arts venues, Saint Bavo’s Cathedral, the Baroque Saint Nicholas Church and Huis van Alijn. For outings further afield, travelers can take the Ghent tramway network from the nearby Gent Korenmarkt station. The hotel intertwines classic and contemporary décor in 174 welcoming rooms. Offerings include standard, standard new-style, superior and Suite rooms with views. Waffles and pancakes are the highlight of the hotel’s bountiful breakfast buffet. Take in lunch or dinner at the Van Artevelde restaurant and dine on international specialties. Enjoy a diverse selection of Belgian beers and cocktails at the lobby bar. Guests can also book one of 10 rooms for meetings, events or wedding receptions for up to 400 attendees.

The location is really great for a city trip and the rooms are spacious with nice views. However, it seems like they weren’t maintained or restored for years. Furniture and carpets look old, dirty (stained) and frankly disgusting. From what we understand the rooms in the executive area are in better shape but we were on the third floor and everything looked dirty and old. During breakfast we noted that most dishes weren’t properly cleaned and still had stains from other meals. The buffet had nice pastries but everything else wasn’t enjoyable (juices and eggs were not fresh etc.). Considering that breakfast wasn’t included in the room and quite costly we were very disappointed by the low quality of the food. The hotel seems to be focusing on business travelers where companies pay in advance for big groups, so the small bar was very crowded before dinner time. On the positive side, the hotel seemed quiet for being so central and there wasn’t much noise from other rooms either.

This was our 4th hotel on our 16 days trip thru Holland/Belgium in August 2024. Location: excellent - a few min easy walk to the Gravensteen Castle, St. Michael's Bridge, St Bavo's Cathedral, Patershol, and other wonderful attractions. We stayed in Luxury double room with view - pretty big room, which had a big terrace (balcony) overlooking the canal, floor to ceiling windows, great working air-conditioner (it was very warm when we were there in August). The only problem we had with the room is that there was absolutely no electrical outlets on the nightstands. For us, it was a big issue. Both my husband and I have a few gadgets (including, of course, cell phones) that we are accustomed to charging overnight right next to us, on the nightstands, which we could not do here. Breakfast was OK for us, not bad, but definitely not the best variety and quality on our trip. Al in all, good stay and would recommend for the very convenient location and a nice view from the room.

From the beginning of the cancellation of the reservation to the actual check-in, the communication of the agent was very poor, the experience was average, and it was not as good as it was said. Booked the supreme room, the room type bed was still facing the door, too lazy to change. The so-called window, behind the bed, almost can't feel the window. The so-called good should be said that the design, restaurant and supporting facilities of the hotel are quite complete.

Outstanding
NNaiyawatOverall is great. But the entrance is a little away from the main road if you are with your big luggage that could be tough due the the steps and rough paving. Another small issue is the toilet, there is no ventilation in the toilet so the odour could trapped inside for a while.
GGuest UserThe location is fantastic, right on the water and you can walk out the door to explore Ghent. The hotel itself is fine, not the most modern/ nicest Marriott I have ever stayed at and certainly not the worst. Parts definitely seem dated. There is a parking garage under the hotel- and you can park there for a nightly fee. The service was not good. When I checked in there was absolutely no recognition of my Ambassador Elite status and no benefits of that status were explained to me. I asked about a suite upgrade, and the girl that was checking me in was fine but another girl (long straight dark brown hair) yelled over from the other side of the counter in a very rude way saying she took care of it already (cutting off the other associate). Our room was not a suite- so she didn't take care of it. Then I asked about a late check out and she yelled over again saying she put it in the system. When I asked if our keys would continue to work she looked at me like I was an ***** and said she took care of it. Which she didn't- we had to get our cards re-keyed the next morning, and they had no note in the system that we previously asked for a late checkout. It felt completely unprofessional- if the other associate wanted to answer my questions or manage my check in process, she could have easily done it by walking over and having a professional and pleasant conversation with me not by yelling over and cutting off the person who was helping me. It felt like she was annoyed that I was asking about the perks that come with the my Marriott status, not welcoming of a new guest to the hotel. Neither the girl who claimed to have taken care of everything, or the girl checking us in explained anything about perks, and I felt so frustrated (about the rude interaction) when they handed me my keys that I didn't even ask. I walked up to the desk after and explained the situation to a male associate standing there who could not have been more kind, apologetic and welcoming. There is no lounge, so he gave us two drink coupons, and said a buffet breakfast at the restaurant was included instead. They also mentioned that the mini fridge was included, but it only had like 3 small bottles total in it (one water, one soda and one beer) so it was not a very big perk. Overall, Ghent was beautiful and the hotel is in a great location. I would stay here again with a very low bar set for service from the front desk.
GGuest UserHuge bath tub close walk (even with tons of luggage) from the train. Wonderful hybrid of Bed and Breakfast and airbnb. Glenn was a wonderful host with clear instructions for arrival and entry. From an inconspicuous front entry to a wide open air space out the back…… perfect choice.
The location and breakfast buffet make this hotel ideal for visiting Ghent. It's a short walk from the train station and. situated near some nice restaurants. You can easily walk to all the sights of Ghent or take the tram in front of the hotel. The bed is very comfortable. The room is large and bright. Everything is super clean. If you stay here, be sure to stop by the Brasserie de Moraal. It's just up the street. Lovely place for dinner. Good food. Reasonable prices. Cordial staff.
ZZhanghuanhuanThe hotel is in a good location. You can go shopping when you go out. It is quite lively. It is also close to the attractions, and it takes 10 minutes to walk. The sanitation is very clean. As soon as you enter the door, you feel that everything is clean. The room is of moderate size. The bathroom is quite simple. There is no kettle. If you want to drink water, you have to go to the water dispenser in the lobby or buy it yourself. The surrounding area is very quiet at night. The window of the room you live in is not across the street, so it will not be noisy. The whole city of Ghent does not feel that noisy, but very comfortable. The breakfast is simple but enough. When you go out to play, you can store your luggage in a special luggage storage cabinet. The fee is based on the size of the luggage and the storage time. I didn't choose carefully, and ended up storing an extra-large cabinet for my small suitcase. . I feel sorry for the money. I am very satisfied with the hotel as a whole. It is very suitable for me to stay when I travel to Ghent without much money!
GGiles LawrenceThe room was fine. We needed extra bedding and 2 nice staff came immediately and made the extra bed for us. However! We arrived with a reservation confirmation of 2 adults 1 child. Their confirmation had 2 people therefore the room they had was too small. They did have another room for 3 they said we could have but it would be 30 euros extra. At the time we simply agreed and paid as there was a big queue behind us and the amount was small. Buttons seemed like a con to extract more money from us, it wasn't our mistake as we had confirmation for 3 people at the designated price. It's a shame as I really liked Ghent and will certainly return but there are other hotels to choose from.
GGuest UserWe discovered bed bugs on the sheets in room 33. The hotel staff moved us to another room, but this room (50) also showed signs of bed bugs with blood stains on the sheets, and it was not adequately cleaned. Therefore we were forced to find alternative accommodation at 3am. They only offered a one night refund out of three, which was unacceptable given the severity of the situation. The handling of this situation by the manager Pascal De Gryse and receptionist Neel was beyond poor, they did not seem to care at all or take any responsibility for this situation. I would not recommend staying at this hotel due to the serious health and safety issues and the inadequate response from the management.
CCowquite far from the train station but close to attractions.
a rather old hotel. the door locks are the round shaped ones. the hot water supply of the shower was not quite steady. the room is quite small for europe i think.
the plus side is they gave us the room well before the official check in time. we arrived at around 10:30 and they gave us the room right away. there is a free breakfast buffet as well (even my room choice is the most basic one).
GGuest UserMy recent four-day stay at the hotel in Gent, Belgium, housed in a charming 19th-century former monastery, was unfortunately marred by several significant issues. Upon arrival, the historic charm of the building was evident and quite captivating. However, the allure quickly dissipated as the stay progressed. Firstly, a standard room lacked en-suite toilets and shower compartments. While this detail is mentioned on the booking site, it is buried in the fine print, a detail easily missed by prospective guests. This is not an amenity gap one would expect from an establishment that charges €135 per night for a standard single-occupation room. Moreover, the hotel failed to provide hot water for two consecutive nights, despite repeated complaints. This fundamental necessity is non-negotiable for any guest, and the hotel’s inability to address the issue promptly was highly disappointing. The lighting situation in several rooms was another major letdown. There were no main lights, leaving rooms dimly lit. When reported, the receptionist unhelpfully and incorrectly stated that the lamps were merely for decoration. This lack of adequate lighting significantly impacted the comfort and usability of the rooms. Adding to the discomfort were the creaking floorboards in the corridors, which disturbed even not-so-light sleepers at midnight. The noise level was unacceptable and further disrupted what was supposed to be a restful stay. While the hotel's historic setting is undeniably beautiful, the experience was marred by these significant issues. For an established hotel, the expectations are high, and basic amenities like hot water, proper lighting, and sound insulation should be a given. Overall, my stay was disappointing, and these issues reflect poorly on the hotel's standards. Future guests should be aware of these potential inconveniences, especially given that some are not adequately disclosed upfront.
BBinglingchenxiaThe location is very good, right in the city center. The hotel is a bit old but well maintained. The staff are very welcoming. Breakfast a la carte is 24 euros, which is not bad.
