Top 5-Star Hotels in Funchal

Everything was fantastic, hotel location, services and design of the hotel. I enjoyed the 2 nights there. Unfortunately the welcoming was not good for me as I waited for 3 hours and 20 minutes. Yes I came early before the check in time which is 2 Pm and I came at 11:50 and the front deck staff ( Eduard ) confirm to me that my room will be ready at 2 pm but till 3:10 pm only I got to my room after I esclate my issue to the front deck manager ( Peter ), the problem was not about the time I lost, but the attitude of front deck staff as he is looking to my face multiple times and he didn’t come to say sorry that your room not yet ready just to apologizing…

The hotel that left a deep impression will have a chance to come back. The hotel is in a great location, close to the edge of the cliff. Invincible sea view. All kinds of swimming pools are suspended on the edge of the cliff at different heights. There are sea water, natural water temperature and heated water temperature, which enjoy great value. There are 2 large restaurants, and the rest of the outdoor restaurants, bars, and salons are so many that they have stayed for a few days and have not found out. The big restaurant buffet has a cabaret show in the evening, and the male and female singers play piano. There are tabloids in the hotel, 6 languages, English and American languages, and there are American and British versions. Service staff gentlemanly, friendly and friendly. Different restaurants with a variety of flavors to choose from.

Hotel facilities and equipment, although old, but also basically meet the needs of use, breakfast is very rich, the room given by the front desk should be considered the largest of the same type, but the floor is too low, the parking lot is noisy, the fly in the ointment is less front desk staff Smile, communication is frosty, resort hotels should not be like this. There is also a small episode at check-in. The front desk must ask me to send the order to the hotel's mailbox, and she has my order number in hand. Is it ridiculous!

Very good location, various full breakfasts, staff available. The weak point is that there are only six places where you can park, but often you already have it. The possibility to park in the casino's parking lot is up to € 6.30 throughout the day. Another weak point of the soundproofing of the room is the sound of TV, doors in the adjacent room. Sufficient hotel, pleasant pool, jacuzzi hammam and small gym for 3/4 day!

Location was good as is just a 10 min walk to downtown. As a frequent traveler, I don't consider the hotel 5-star rated hotel. It's ok for a 4-star, but not 5. Doesn't meet a 5-star standard in several things. For example, if you are driving, parking is a little bit an hassle as you have to change from one building to another. Breakfast was good but not 5-star breakfast. Lack of warm breakfast dishes and pastries. Windows in the room not sound proof. Woke up severals times during night time as you could hear the noise from the Garbage truck. When you take a shower, leaks water towards the hand sink area. Pillows, not match a 5-star standard either. Was ok, but not great!

What a fantastic experience This hotel was perfect The wait staff were friendly, engaging and entertaining The front desk staff were above and beyond with assistance, from booking excursions, restaurants or taxis - they were wonderful The rooms were gorgeous We booked a one bedroom suite, which had an enormous wrapped balcony overlooking the ocean - the only complaint was the bed is quite firm, but many people like this. A small kitchen for drinks etc The spa and massages were 5* without exaggeration This has become one of our favourite hotels We will definitely be back We will definitely be back

This hotel was just a disaster from day 1 of our stay . Room originally given was not room we paid for or booked Reception guys tried there best but it was not good enough . Housekeeping standards very poor in room . Never known having to order milk cartons at Reception for tea and coffee in your room or take a bottle provided down to bar to replenish water staff were rude in restaurant to my wife which I reported but nothing was done . Restaurant food was ok but same thing most days . Rooms are dated and musty smell I believe due to horrific carpets and how worn they are .Balcony chairs uncomfortable to a point we could not sit on them...if you want a 5 star experience this is not the place for you. This was my wife and I's honeymoon but no positive memories for us .. and we still have 2 more days to endure here before we go home Monday.....

Rooms are spacious and luxuriously appointed. Staff are friendly and efficient and un - intrusive. Location of the hotel is excellent for exploring Funchal, local restaurants and concerts at the English Church especially the Rock concert on Friday evenings! Levada walks are accessible and the Levada Pionais has a very nice little bar The Pe de Cabre at Lombada not to be missed and do order the speciality’Pe de Cabre’ 6euros per couple which includes a top up and generous helpings of peanuts and yellow beans!

This hotel was excellent. There are 1 and 2 star reviews here on TA - I do not recognise the picture in these reviews - all I can say is that the more spelling mistakes I see in a review, the less I value it. (I mean - you expect the hotel to be so perfect in every respect, the least you could do is exercise the same level of care and attention in your review. How can you expect high standards elsewhere when you don't hold yourself to the same level?) From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. The check-in was very simple and efficient. We arrived quite late, and they'd thought to have a tray of cold food sent up to our room for us. Thank you! There is an underground car-park free for guests (useful with a hire car) and whilst we were there it was not too busy at any point. The Wifi is easy to connect to and pretty fast. It did tend to drop out quite a bit when in the main bar area, but otherwise it was problem-free. The pools and areas are excellent - perhaps it would be nice to have one of the outdoor pools slightly heated - they could be cold. The little gym is fine - like most hotel gyms its not exactly a full health-club, but it allows you to keep up most of your workout routine. Restaurants - really good. The buffet for breakfast and evening meal was excellent - very well presented, maintained, and huge choice. That includes for vegetarians, with the slight caveat that it would have been nice to have vegetarian hot main meals for dinner, although with the very wide salad range, no-one is short of choice. The three special restaurants (Madeiran, Italian, and Moroccan) were also great, and although you have to book in advance, there's no limitation on how many times you can go. Vegetarians here generally have to ask, but then there are plenty of options. The staff in all the restaurants were particularly friendly and good at what they do. The room was nice, and comfortable. We had a double room with an extra bed (to make it a family room) - perhaps it was a little small for that given that it is a 5-star, but it was by no means cramped and if you were just a couple in that, then you'd be fine. The room housekeeping was good. A small criticism is that although there was a leaflet saying that soft drinks in the minibar would be replaced (for free) this wasn't done - I don't know if we needed to specifically ask. It wasn't a problem for us (or we would have asked) but it would be nice to have had that happen automatically. Point of criticism - we seemed to spend a little longer waiting for lifts than would be ideal - there seemed to be one lift out of operation although no signage to that effect, and the lifts were a little under-sized - quite cramped when more than three people were in. In many ways the experience of a hotel like this can be affected by the number of people, and while we were here, it didn't seem overly full - perfect for us but may not always be like that. We have recently returned from a week at the Vidamar resort hotel in Madeira. Stayed 21/9/24 to 28/0924. After reading very mixed reviews, we were unsure what to expect! On arrival, we were greeted at the door by a member of staff and warmly welcomed to the hotel. Unfortunately, despite booking an early check in our room was not ready, however we went to the restaurant down by the outdoor pools and had a lovely lunch with a complimentary drink. We got into our rooms just after 2pm and they did not disappoint! We had rooms on the 6th floor with complimentary wine and water in the room. The rooms are very spacious with a large en-suite bathroom, a huge double bed, seating area and balcony overlooking the sea! (This was the superior room) Tea and coffee making facilities provided! The rooms although tired looking in places, were spotlessly clean and had everything we needed! (Safe, hair dryer, tv etc) Towels were provided along with pool towels that you exchanged daily! There was an indoor pool, jacuzzi and steam room free to use and a spa area with pools, hot tub, steam and sauna rooms that we had 2 complimentary passes for. The breakfast and dinner buffet was amazing, huge choice of food with something different every day! Sometimes the hot food could have been a bit hotter in temperature but no real complaints! The Portuguese restaurant and Italian were also excellent! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly! The bar had entertainment most evenings ! Centre of Funchal walking distance but can also buy daily bus ticket from reception for €5! We had a wonderful week and would definitely return! Thank you Vidanar
