Arrived at 11.45 for 5 nights and room was ready.Room on 3rd floor was fine,fridge worked fine as did the aircon and TV.Bathroom large with bath and shower,always hot water and good pressure,good towels.Pool is fine,chairs/loungers are good.Breakfeast was good,bacon,scrambled eggs everyday and beans most days plus all the usual things.Great location.Barely any street noise or any noise from other guests despite a large group of youngsters arriving for 2 days.

The Hotel Next in Funchal on Madeira impresses with its excellent location right on the water. The rooms, although spacious, tend to create a somewhat subdued atmosphere due to their darkness. Nevertheless, the hotel scores with comfortable beds, modern furnishings and attractive bathrooms. The breakfast, served in a kind of canteen, has a limited selection and the quality could be improved. A highlight, however, is the beach club on the water, which, although without a beach, stands out positively with a pool and direct access to the sea via a jetty.

TUI BLUE Madeira Gardens aka Savoy Gardens Location It was close to a main road meaning there could be a fair amount of traffic noise at times. It was just walkable to the centre but a steep walk on the return. The bus stopped just outside and took 8 minutes. Room The room was really good with a balcony and sea view. The rear view from the back rooms was just ok but they got no sun. Facilities The roof top terrace was well worth a visit, with a jacuzzi. The main swimming pool was unheated so too cold in November. The spa pool was just big enough to swim in but more than four people in it was too much if you are a swimmer. The steam room and sauna were good but only working during certain hours. Food There was an à la carte restaurant with a set meal in addition. The choice looked quite uninspiring in comparison to the buffet restauraunt. Hence it had poor usage. The food was quite good but very repetitive. In a week, we had horrible bread and butter pudding that few people ate and it was disappointing to see it three times. There was cold thin custard but not always, plus a choice of 2 ice creams. Other than that there was the usual cold puddings and cakes. The salad tended to have the previous day's leftover vegetables in a mayonnaise (also in a soup). There was the same baked and fried fish several nights running. There was always pasta and a meat sauce. The cheese choice was uninspiring. Having said that, the quality of the food was good. The hot breakfast was not great with tiny sausages, what looked like very thin horrible spam posing as bacon, tasteless baked beans, poorly cooked fried eggs, sickly tasting scrambled eggs. The coffee was undrinkable unless diluted with hot water. The hot chocolate was cold. All hot drinks were served as there were no hot drink machines. There were juice machines serving very diluted juice. Staff There were very good except for one dinner drinks waitress who unfortunately nearly spoiled our holiday on the first night. We do not drink with our meals and said no thank you when asked if we wanted drinks. She then said my wife was nice and I was nasty, on what basis we di not know as we were both polite. She was touching us and came across as overstepping the mark with familiarity. (She had long hair in a plait down past her waist if the manager reads this.) I was really upset by her and thank goodness we never saw her again. We liketo eat early and did not enjoy the waiting staff lined up at the door when the restaurant opened. It was embarrassing for us to walk through them, although no doubt well meant. Overall We did enjoy our stay here even though I have been critical.

We had a junior suite at the hotel. Big buffet breakfast each day with great coffee. Fresh baked goods. Hit omelette and more. Lovely infinity pool with bar. So many restaurants right outside the door. We ate dinner here too. Enjoyed tempura and good home made soups. Ocean views. Nice staff. Clean rooms.

Super hotel with friendly staff and super service. The doormen who welcome you to the hotel are a worthy of a special mention. The grounds and pool are marvellous, and the bedrooms are very good however there is only a minibar fridge which makes self catering difficult. Walls between rooms are not well soundproofed and we had ‘noisy neighbours’ which was annoying. Lovely restaurants and service, although the menus and cuisine are aged and need a more modern presentation. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and any points made are hopefully taken as positive criticism. The hotel is situated not far from the lovely centre of Funchal or a walk to the Lido area, hilly but that’s what you expect in Madeira. Dodging the hawkers for ‘time share’ now called vacation clubs apparently, who refuse to accept ‘no thank you’ means exactly that, is annoying when going for a walk and should be addressed by Savoy and their competitors.

Lovely spacious comfortable room. A variety of restaurants to choose from and pools to relax in with jacuzzi.Spa facilities available. A very good location with transport on your doorstop to get you to Funchal. The staff are very friendly and very helpful.

A lovely location and lovely hotel the staff all will go out of their way to accomodate every need. The wifi was not continually working in our room which used up all my data. This needs looking into was reported a few times but stayed same. We were a family of 4 and given a room first 3 nights that had a queen bed and a single bed which was inadequate. After 3 unconfortable nights we were given a room with a larger sofa bed which easily slept 2 and an extra guest bed the room was much better. We were offered to be moved to neighbouring Miramar hotel but declined. The management were apologetic and sent some fruits and fizz to our room lovely gesture. Our cleaner Clara was exceptinal and all the staff made our stay exceptional. Breakfast buffett was huge and varied every day only thing i would say is naybe some freshly squeezed fruit juices would be nicer than the processed ones. Great pool and jacuzzi. Very clean all round. A bit of a sterp walk upto hotel. Fab staff and lovely stay in the end. Madeira didnt gave enough to do for the kids a oerfect place for couples.

Overall great stay and we'll likely be back next time we visit Madeira. Great location close to lots of restaurants and bars, and bus stops. It's not too far to walk to the city center and there's lots to see on the way there, too. The rooms were clean, shampoo etc. was provided and there were even extra blankets which we were very grateful for as it can be chilly at night. What we did not enjoy that much was the breakfast, as both restaurants serve about the same food and it was the same every morning. The taste was ok but we probably won't add breakfast the next time we stay, or not for all days. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, however, the hotel appeared to be understaffed, meaning we'd have to wait quite a bit to receive service, e.g., at the reception, and staff seemed stressed at times.
