Should have been an easy visit for a coffee. At coffee counter told to go to the bar and order. Told at bar need a table number. So two flat whites ordered and cake. Two cappuccinos and no cake arrive. When pointed this out the girl mumbled some nonsense about not having the right glasses! Cake did arrive in a mood. Upshot. Staff we dealt with were all young women who looked and acted like they would rather be elsewhere.

I am sad to have to write this review. We were visiting from New Zealand. We had two rooms booked, the Bruce and the Outlander. When the staff left for the night they switched the heating off for the whole building. We were absolutely frozen. Shivering and shaking cold! We even put towels on the bed to try and help, and were very close to sleeping in our car. We had ur daughter with us so it was extra upsetting. When staff arrived in the morning when it was time for us to check out, they turned the heat back on (lucky for them!) We asked for a partial refund as basic standards were not met. It was very hard to get hold of the manager and we were told to phone later, which we did.. but she wasn't there time and time again. We eventually (days later) got hold of her and she agreed to a partial refund but wanted a bank account number rather than refunding to our card. I provided a UK account number so it would be easier for them, the refund never came. I emailed twice more and they just ignored us. This place should be shut down with how they treat their guests. Just look at the other reviews. Also the tap in the bathroom dripped loudly all night and the place is run down with an uncomfortable bed. There also isn't a kettle. We are not fussy people by any means and I never leave bad reviews, but I don't want anyone to go through what we did. You should book somewhere else. The attitude of the staff/owners says is all.

Checked in for 2 night stay with a friend and found staff to be very friendly. Atmosphere in the bar was great, service always prompt and food excellent on both nights. Breakfast large and tasty. The hotel is unmanned overnight and there are instructions as to what to do if there is a problem. On our last night the alarm started to go off at 4am... My friend and I went downstairs to see what the matter was,we were the only 2 guests in the hotel, checked outside and all around but could see nothing so we went back in and called the urgent line number to report the alarm to management. No reply...call went to answerphone and I left a message explaining what happened. I am still waiting to hear back!! The alarm continued until 8am and the chef came in, making out last night uncomfortable, noisy and being unable to get back to sleep. Alarms going off are nobody's fault and these things do happen, however it's how you deal with it that counts. The lady who came in to serve breakfast hadn't been told anything about the alarm by 9am so management clearly hadn't checked their emergency phone. We have had no apology. This, badly handled by management experience, has soured what was a lovely weekend up until then.

We booked to stay 3 nights but cancelled the last night and got a refund. It’s important to balance out the positives and negatives, so the pub is lovely, the staff and food are excellent. We stayed in the queen’s room and paid £150 a night. The room is small, the bed is very very uncomfortable and hard and feels like a very cheap mattress. The sheet are lovely, the quilt needs replacing, the mattress kept us awake and is really not good enough. There is no wardrobe only a coat hook with hangers which is not appropriate if you are staying more than a night. There is a big mark (1-2 feet long) on the ceiling looks like a leak. The bath is lovely and the bathroom is lovely too. Unfortunately the heating stopped working on our second night and the room was freezing due to the stone walls and no heating, we were freezing cold and had to sleep in two sets of clothes. Hence the refund for night 3 as I couldn’t do another night on that bed. I did complain and got a refund for the third night. My feedback is this, if you are going to charge £150 a night then you must have a very good mattress, heating, paint the marks on the ceiling and ensure the heating works and pop a wardrobe unit in. The hotel a few doors up is half the price, so if you are selling luxury then the bed and comfort level is significant.

This hotel was booked as part of our honeymoon in Scotland as my (now wife) is a huge Outlander fan, so of course, I booked the Outlander room. The room is quite small but this wasn't a problem. It had some photos of the crew and cast taken during filming and a couple of pieces of 1940s furniture. Obviously the room is nothing like the 1940s room at 'Mrs Baird's B&B' as only the exterior of the Covenanter hotel was filmed while the inside shots were filmed in a studio. There were a few issues worth pointing out in that the very loose headboard bangs against the wall as soon as you sit on the bed, let alone sit back against it. I had to shove a cushion behind the headboard to stop it knocking the wall. The mattress was not the best either and very hard. There was no kettle, only a coffee-maker, so if you like tea you're out of luck. The lamp next to the bed has stains on it & needs replacing. Unfortunately, the bathroom is a lot worse...it needs a lot of attention. The ceiling is peeling & cracked with mould spots. The extractor fan does little to combat moisture and the window doesn't open. There was no sign above the sink warning about how hot the hot water tap is and my wife burnt her hand. The small step up to the toilet is a bit of a hazard as it's hard to see with the black slate tiles. There was also a slug on the window frame which is strange with the window not opening. The taps didn't turn off properly and were constantly dripping all night. I'm actually quite shocked at how bad the bathroom was considering the room is £130 a night. In fact, only one of the three windows opened and that was a struggle, which was very alarming as the fire alarm went off very late at night and no one came to tell us anything. This went on for around 20-30 minutes. If there had been a fire, I wouldn't fancy my chances with the windows not opening. We did mention this to the lady who served us breakfast in the morning and she just said there was no fire and if there had been they would have let us know and that it was a false alarm. She didn't seem concerned about it at all and the disturbance it caused guests. All in all, I would have expected a lot more for the price I paid. I will finish by saying the food was lovely, all homemade and although I would eat here again, I definitely wouldn't stay here overnight. I haven't stayed in such poor accommodation in a long time and it's a real shame considering how popular Falkland is. I hope the owner of this B&B take all these concerns on board going forward. To date, I still haven't had a reply from the owner to my email regarding the poor condition of this hotel.

We stayed in the James room for a 2 night stay. Can’t rate this place highly enough. Everything about it was bang on perfect! Room and bathroom spotless. Great location for St Andrews and for outlander fans you can’t get better than this place. The breakfasts were delicious and we ate one evening which was every bit as good as breakfast. Made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Loved sitting in the bar in the evenings and socialising with the locals. The Owner has personally worked very hard with his team to make this a special place and he has accomplished exactly that. Keep doing what you’re doing at the Covenanter!! 👏🏼👏🏼

Absolute shambles of a place. Took half our pre booked wedding groups food order then decided the kitchen was shut and refused to take the other half’s. So only half sat with food. Promised chips for the rest then changed their minds. Terrible service. Avoid.

Deservedly very popular venue in classic Scots historic village. We were overnight to attend a wedding preceded by lunch. Everything was very good - food, drink, wine, service, room except the fire alarm went off on both days. Acht.

We have been here regularly with our tour group, but we are treated very badly. The staff is not friendly at all and the food is really bad. We had to wait a very long time for everything. If you have to go to the toilet, they want to see money. In short, they will not see us here again. Pity
