We popped into the G&F for lunch for old times sake. Outside a bit scruffy but the inside was quite tasteful. We opted for the Sunday lunch as it smelt lovely. Everything was well cooked although we felt the chef had orders to make the meat go as far aspossible and as such, the price was high for what was essentially a pub sunday lunch at £15 for one course. The manager/landlord did not help as he had the demeanour of a Parisiene waiter, less than 'friendly'!! Would probably go again if passing but would not make it a venue.

Visited the pub for lunch. This used to be a truly fantastic pub (20+ years ago) and it was my first visit since then. The pub is now a little tired and in need of some TLC. The location is fantastic and it has the potential to return to its former glory. The pub was busy when we visited and the bar staff were struggling to keep pace with the customers. The food was good rather than great.

We stayed for one night on our way to Southampton for a cruise. All the staff were incredibly welcoming and we enjoyed both the evening meal and breakfast . They really made us feel at home. The bedroom was clean and spacious with a large bathroom . Great car parking Strongly recommend

when looking for a local stay for family reasons we were wary of refurbishments mentioned in older reviews…….But WOW, what a find!! Now competed this is a real gem, beautifully decorated the huge comfortable spacious bar and restaurant area - including pretty rear garden - served excellent food….liver & bacon highly recommended! The vegetarians also seemed very pleased. Lovely touches such as board games and rugs for chiller evenings, and dog treats and beds. Our room was so simply but tastefully decorated, clean and spacious. Our 2 small dogs were not only welcomed but actively encouraged. Final mention to all the super friendly and efficient staff who made our brief stay such a treat we are now looking to return for longer very soon.

We booked on-line and didn't realise that the place was being refurbished albeit outside and 2nd floor however, this didn't leave the place with a chemical odour but, the food was very good as were the staff and we will return once the work has finished and hopefully (because it was limited) a better menu.

A crumbling huge cavernous building that if renovated could be a brilliant country hotel but is currently just a decaying mess. Our shower handle was broken off and so no water at all. We had no towels or toilet paper. The whole place is totally run down and he skeleton staff are just about holding it together. Don’t book until they renovate and get new management!

Haven't been here for 5 years so looking forward to Sunday roast, the last time we we're there we had a carvery, Now apparently new owners back in August stopped carvery, so came already plated up and i can honestly say worse meal we ever had awful frozen roast potatoes, Yorkshire dry, had two big slices of tasteless gammon. On top of this we waited an hour to have our order taken. We voiced our diserpointment they took £6 off bill. But we left saying how it had gone down hill.

New chef. Decided to try their Sunday Lunch. Have to say we were not disappointed the food was amazing. Friendly and prompt service. My hat off to the new chef we enjoyed every morsel on our plates. We will definitely be going back for more.

Thought we would pop by after driving through the area. The pub itself is really spacious, and has a cosy feeling too it especially with the open fire. The staff are really welcoming. The menu has a good choice of food, as well as a good selection of drinks. We chose to have starters, main and dessert and every meal that came out was delicious! We didn't wait long for food either. We will defiantly come back again, and cannot wait to visit in the summer so we can make use of the pub garden by the river. This is a pub for all seasons, especially winter as the inside has a very warm country vibe. Would recommend to anyone who asked me about this pub!
