Ikos Andalusia

Enjoyed our family half term holiday. We have been to several other IKOS resorts and it’s a lovely site / quite small relative to others. Our favourite feature was probably the sea view / aspect / taking bikes along the coastline; the food quality was excellent throughout our stay; staff were very helpful. We stayed in a one bedroom bungalow with sea front view. The room was large and bathroom particularly generous. The weather was poor for a number of the days we were in Andalusia and the resort isn’t geared up for consistent / rainy weather. As a result indoor areas became very busy and at times (although we also have kids) incredibly noisy. The pools were heated - some more than others - which allowed pool access even in colder weather. The deluxe area was really nice and restaurant for breakfast / lunch in nice weather was gorgeous. However, during the period we were forced inside this was also overrun and couldn’t cope with the volumes of deluxe guests. I suspect the recent development of more deluxe suites has had a detrimental effect - the pool area was also very busy when sunny. The Theatre is outdoor and wasn’t open for most of our stay. Our children (11 and 9) attended kids club and found the staff and area to be nice but didn’t want to go back - feeling it was pitched to a younger age range than the 8-12 band. Evening entertainment centred around the main bar with some good live music acts. Again, this was challenged by the number of people cramming into an indoor space. Overall we had a great holiday - making the best of poor weather which Ikos can’t control. We had two disappointing experiences - 1) the central pool cut both my son’s feet - which lifeguards told us happens a lot and we saw other children having a similar problem. This needs to be sorted and isn’t the level we’d expect from such a high quality establishment; 2) we became locked out of the room on our final morning (8am) and when we went to get a new key I was told it was my fault due to keeping the key card too close to a phone (but it hadn’t happened all week?). Worse, despite returning to reception the replacement key also didn’t work - so we had to return again. Staff could have managed this situation better and been more helpful given we needed to finish packing and leave the hotel urgently (within 30 mins) to go to the airport. A stressful end to the holiday. I’d like to thank the deluxe WhatsApp team and Flor for help during our stay. Also, Maria at the deluxe pool who stood out as so happy and helpful. Our housekeeper was also superb. There were too many others to mention.

We had the most amazing holiday with friends and family. Great food and drinks and nothing was too much trouble. A special shout out to the wonderful Sia who looked after our wine every evening for us. She’s absolutely amazing and Ikos are lucky to have her.
