Stayed overnight here with my 12 year old son en route to the Channel Tunnel. Nice big double room in separate block behind the hotel with large bathroom in need of some TLC. Big issue for us was that the restaurant was closed as they had no Chef which having read other reviews seems to have been the case for some time. We should have been told this beforehand so that I could make alternative arrangements. Overall impression was of a business dying on its feed

This was a one night stay to meet up with friends in the village. Elham is a pleasant village with three pubs within a short walk of each other, each with very different characteristics. Our room (£100 icluding breakfast) was a large double in the old stable block with a high loft style ceiling into the roof. It was chilly on arrival and we cranked up the electric wall heaters and the separate plug in heater. We spent very little time in the room other than to sleep and then shower in the morning. With the heaters on the room was warm enough. The bed was comfortable. There is evidence of some damp on the bathroom wall. In general the staff were friendly and, after a slow booking in experience, attentive. We had our evening meal in the bar area as the dining room appeared to be closed, possibly due to lack of bookings or staff. The table we had was rather dark for eating and I asked for a candle to be brought to the table. The food was adequate but the portions a bit small in my opinion. The cooked breakfast the next morning was tasty. We had been asked to complete a breakfast form and hand it in the day before. I had items on my plate that I had not requested on the form but I didn't raise this point.

stopped over while travelling to france. the rooms were great . the staff were very freindly and attentive. the food was excellent ( coming from Barnsley i had the Barnsley chop). the place is in a beautiful village ten minutes from the channel tunnel so perfect for an early start to france. the surrounding countryside is stunning

Very kind and attentive, nothing was too much. I was gluten intolerant and I was well catered for. Rooms were generous size, only one minor detail maybe a little complimentary shower gel would have been lovely but no complaints. We enjoyed our stay, thank you.

We stayed back here on October 28th. To look at, yes looks like a really cosy lovely quiet pub. WRONG! locals are rough as hell. The night we stayed an awful group fight broke out in the bar, that went out in to back garden and back though to bar and out the front. The place was trashed. So our dinner was ruined due to the fight, police was called. We quickly headed back to our room. Where the young bar maid came and knocked to apologise. She said our money would be refunded due to the inconvenience. Come the morning there was no staff to be seen to get the refund. So we decided we’d just call back. Every single time we’ve been told “the manager will call you back” Never had a phone call back. Every few weeks we’ve called and never been able to get any further just always fobbed off. Today we’ve been given an excuse of “it’s changed management” if that’s true or not who knows. Soo unless you want to be out in sticks where the locals are rough and waste £100odd for the night then yes it’s right up your street. Such a shame the managers never got back to us as the pub and room actually are lovely. But ruined by poor management.

Wonderful Sunday lunch...slow roasted brisket with all the trimmings for hubby and a splendid vegan mint and pea ravioli for me. Not to forget the yummy starters, puddings, and excellent wine. Best vegan options this side of Canterbury .

I had booked two rooms for bed and breakfast as attended a wedding in the village. Having booked the rooms over the phone over 6 months, i made numerous attempts to gain a confirmation of the booking. Over the last 3 months, I phoned over 10 times and in spite of turning up in person, confirmation of the booking was only received the day before the wedding after I complained to Shepherd and Neame. I turned up to book in at the time agreed, to find the premises locked and had to make calls to get the manager to attend. I then only found out that there was no breakfast available when I asked- breach of the verbal agreement made. There was one toilet roll between the two rooms/ bathrooms. The light in the bathroom did not work and the extractor would not turn off. I had to unplug the heaters as this was the only way they would turn off. The carpets were thread bear and the rooms felt like they belonged to an era decades ago and no this wasn't nostalgic. I suppose they only benefit was that we were allowed to stay as long as we needed and as the manager advise indulge in a morning coffee - that would have be lovely had there been cups in the room - mind you if the cleanliness was anything like the glass, they would have been unusable. The excuse from Shepherd Neame is that the business is between managers - my suggestion is you just close it down - you are doing far more harm than good! (I will be asking for a refund)

My husband and I went to this hidden gem of a pub and wow what a find. We were greeted by whom must have been the manager. Her name was Marie. I enjoyed there selection of gins whilst my husband drunk his favourite Sheps Ale Master brew. Will return very soon thanks for your hospitality

My wife and I went to the My wife and I went to this pub for an early evening drink. We realized it was under new management and were made to feel so welcome that we ended up staying a lot longer and enjoyed a game of bingo. Highly recommended!
