We checked in Friday 18th sept , a room on the 5th floor , nice and quiet Friday night in bed early ish after traveling , at 11:50pm the fire alarm Went off and woke us up , scared us to death to be honest , As we evacuated the building it was very clear the staff on duty had absolutely no idea what they was doing or should be doing , No one in reception guiding you out The fire point was at the bottom of the ramp which is in fact only inches from a potential burning building , when it should be at the very minimum across the road , The lobby / bar still people sat drinking with staff just letting them even though 99% of the guests out on the street , 20 mins in the one staff member out on the street phones the fire brigade ! Yes 20 mins in from the first alarm !! 4 fire engines turn up with people still drinking in the bar and at least a hundred in the door way , so firemen had to fight their way past ! While staff just looks on , At no point was a register done to see if guests were safe . If by some chance there is one on the incident log for the night then is a forgery and they need prosecuting ! 40 mins after the alarm we was allowed back in , The night staff at this hotel should be suspended without pay until retraining has taken place and they can prove they are competent in how it should work , I’ve worked in a industry for 28 years where fires are a daily occurrence and the actions of those staff that night put the safety of the guests and the hotel at risk , This is the worse I’ve ever seen any staff performing anywhere at any time . The fire alarm was not constant making you think is wasn’t real , sounding for like 30 seconds then quiet then sounds again As the fire alarm was sounding room light never came on . Fire assembly point inches from a potential burning building , Staff clueless and not in control No register taken People still aloud to stay in the building People blocking entrance for the fire brigade Email sent to travel lodge head office and the fire service of Scotland
