Holiday Inn Harrisburg (Hershey Area) I-81

Where to begin!!!! I recently stayed at this Holiday Inn for a soccer tournament, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. The room had stained, dirty flooring, a broken clock, and no refrigerator. The TV was dysfunctional, and the lock on the door was broken. The beds sunk in the middle, almost like little boats. The bathroom tub was slimy and dirty, the carpet was peeling up off the floor, which was unacceptable. I couldn’t get any of the electrical sockets to hold a plug making charging our devices and drying my hair extremely challenging. The hotel didn’t offer complimentary breakfast which is vital for a family on the go! The service from Cynthia at the breakfast restaurant was unpleasant, and the breakfast “hot”bar was cold. Our window view was laughable, and the indoor pool was ice cold, making it uninviting for the kids. For the amount we paid, this was a complete robbery. I would not recommend this Holiday Inn to anyone.

We arrived to a room where the toilet didn’t flush. We were reluctantly moved to another room…. They wanted to just have someone come look at it but we were trying to shower and get back out for dinner and a concert. In new room for only 30 minutes. Couch in new room was full of stains. TV was tiny. Returned from concert to get to bed…. Found ants in bathroom, bedside table, on the bed and on table below the tv. Ended up leaving hotel at 12:30am as no longer wanted to be there… ended up driving home very disappointed. Hotel is old and looks it. Towels were dingy looking and was mold in the shower. Just don’t recommend.

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Holiday Inn Harrisburg (Hershey Area) I-81 for making our wedding night stay absolute crap💩 My mom was nice enough to get us a suite for our wedding night… we arrived and it was trashed, I mean pee in toilet, bed undone, trash and towels around. Not only did it take them forever to clean it up but once they gave us the okay to go back, the keys wouldn’t work. Once we got in the AC didn’t work and there was MOLD on the ceiling. They thought simply $50 off would be fine after we had there hotel full with our wedding guests 💵💰 they finally said they would give us the suite for free… yet somehow charged a completely different guest (not my mom or us or anything that could possibly make sense) from our wedding for the suite on top of their correct room!!! Unbelievable, do not recommend what so ever. 🙄

Not a good place to stay for a litany of reasons. Quality of rooms, aggressive communication and lack of understanding of billing charges after our stay. Our bathroom appeared to have some mold and a facet that was not secure. We had to call the cops on the employees after they ambushed my wife and I at dinner in the hotel about an error they had made and we felt threatened by the employees, at which point we were asked to leave in agreement of a refund that we never received. In fact we were charged approximately $300 extra for charges we have been unable to figure out what they are for. Not sure a lawyer is worth such a fee but best to stay somewhere else.

This hotel is being renovated but I didn’t see any construction taking place. DO NOT stay at this hotel. The room we had (233) is circa 1970. The door lock failed freqently. Had to go to the desk and get a new key card. Still was hard to use. Another guest also had problems. Hotel person admitted having trouble with entry locks. The bathroom has a tiny one bowl sink. The stool and shower is behind a door that you have to push shut. We stayed two days and the shower temperature was always luke-warm. The tub is small and old and drains VERY slow and the water builds up over your feet quickly. The tile grout is grungy. Yuk! No hooks for towels. Fixtures are old. The bedroom curtains drape over a chair positioned in front of the window and the block-out curtain is ripped in places and repaired with black tape on the reverse side, but sunlight still exposes the rips! Looks terrible. Lampshade on one side of bed is crooked and loose. Ceiling is popcorn finish revealing the age of the room. Furniture is old and out-of-date. The beds sag. Woodwork banged up. On top of this, they forgot to make-up our room after the first night. I had to find a housekeeper to get towels. I can’t belivee Holiday Inn would let a room/hotel get to this condition. There is only one small SLOW elevator. Twice we decided to take the stairs instead because of the line to get on was so long. I’m very disappointed and have noticed there is an inconsistency in the quality of Holiday Inn’s.

No hot water when I went to take a shower. Toilet would not flush properly. Desk staff said dismissively, “Sorry, it’s probably because a lot of people are showering at one time.” No offer of compensation. That guy’s colleague at the front desk said, “We’re down to one boiler.” safety, and comfort, of which hot water is a big component, are the basics of good hotel service. There is not good service here.

Got in around 9 and the hotel knew that there would be 25 of us checking in. Check in was slow but it was efficient. The staff was also nice. My room was good but other people in my group had nasty rooms/bathrooms. Also the hotel breakfast wasn’t complimentary. So our whole group about wasted a lot of money on basic hotel breakfast. It was a basic hotel breakfast buffet but it cost 15 dollars a person.

Very disappointed. Would not stay again. Wish I didn’t stay. I will say the one positive is that the staff is very friendly. I feel bad for them working with the situation they have at this hotel. It’s clear that Holiday Inn is not concerned with this brand name hotel. 1. Very outdated. 2. No room key given. Front desk or random staff had to let us in our room anytime we needed to get back in. 2. Side entrances to hotels not locked allowing anyone to just walk in. 3. Didn’t see anyone cleaning or checking the pool chemicals for the indoor pool. Clumps of hair floating around. 4. 3 out of the 3 treadmills in the fitness center we’re out of order. 4. Weird smell throughout the building. The stay was disappointing enough. Employees confirmed for us that it was a terrible place. What bothers me even more is that I am an IHG member…and have reached out to IHG via email, chat and messenger and just messenger just to keep getting a run around. Don’t stay here. It’s not safe or worth any money or points used. I hope the staff there get jobs at an establishment where they can really put their skills to use.

This hotel is well past its time and should be demolished. Among the issues we and our friends experienced were torn, threadbare drapes; key locks that didn't work or needed 3 attempts everytime; a bathroom without a shower curtain; AC not working in several rooms; stained chairs; legs on tables close to falling off; water leaking from the ceiling; and peeling wallpaper. Our room had no roll in the holder for the toilet paper to rotate on. The room had been renovated but the bath had not and the caulking around the sink and tub looked like our 9 year old granddaughter smeared it around the edges. The K-cup coffee selection in our room was three teas and a decaf coffee - no regular coffee. When we asked the housekeeper, she just took a regular from another room. One of our friends had to change rooms 4 times in 4 days because of problems with each room. Other friends moved twice. Amazingly, the front desk books another guest in the same room within minutes of moving the first guest out due to a problem with that room. I assume that the system doesn't block a problem room or they just hope the next guest doesn't notice. Housekeeping supervisors supposedly check rooms but how these obvious deficiencies are not remedied is bewildering. The excuse some employees use is that they're in the process of renovating. However, the hotel hasn't improved in 10 years since we last stayed there. (We stayed this time only because that's where an event was.) There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to what is in a room. Some rooms had no mini fridge while others did. Some rooms had a microwave and others didn't . Some rooms had both a microwave and a minifridge and others had neither. I will say that the employes generally were friendly and some very helpful but the building, the systems and the ownership they have to contend with must make their jobs very frustrating. Travellers are best to stay away from this dump.
