Very comfortable stay and excellent food. We enjoyed our evening meal and also the breakfast with a wide choice on the menu and lovely selection of fresh fruit on the buffet.

On a fairly quiet road junction, we did experience some road noise early in the morning. The carpark is rough. Staff made an effort to welcome us, offering fresh milk for the room and help with luggage. Rooms were clean but need some updating especially the TV which you couldn't keep plugged in if you wanted to boil a kettle. You have to move the bedside tables to access the sockets by the bed. The bathroom was well appointed with a modern finish. The shower took some working out and you will get wet switching it on! Breakfast was good, nice to have fresh fruit and cooked to order hot dishes. All that said we think it is overpriced.

Treated disgustingly by female who was supposedly serving the guests on the outside deck. She was abrupt and blatantly rude. She either needs to go on a hospitality course, or if she's that unhappy doing her job, maybe it's time she moves on.

We went ad hock for a snack and a beer on Saturday, nice pint and great service, brilliant staff who we had a giggle with due to our calamitous day, and the food was superb, so we booked for the following day Sunday lunch. The difference from one day to the next. We were asked for drinks, I asked for the dark moose bitter, got a pale ale, and after asking our order, one lamb one beef, " Sorry no beef, you should have been told!" So I had pork, the meat and potato came out, 5 minutes later a bowl of veg came out, , then " no English mustard" So no beef, no bitter and no mustard. ! The food was ok I don't like the fact I was given a pale ale and no choice, but I was hungry so didnt argue. I saw a family of 10 being sent back to the bar as their table wasn't ready and 5 people having ordered after 10 minutes being told to reorder as their order had gone off the system. Should be renamed faulty foxes and then we would know what to expect. I hope they get their act together as its good value and nice staff , and when in stock a nice pint.

Cosy rooms that look like they have been recently refurb'd. Lovely attention to detail (they gave us fresh milk on arrival and there were hot water bottles in the bedroom). All the staff members we talked to were very nice and friendly. We ate in the restaurant of an evening and the food was delicious. The breakfast was cooked to order (not buffet style), so it was all fresh and hot. Defo recommend anyone to stay here.

Apparently a group of foxes is called, amongst other things, a 'skulk', which seems rather a negative word, but no negatives with the accommodation at the Cross Foxes. We have eaten here many times, we live somewhat locally; close enough to drive over for lunch and make it into a day out, but just a bit too far to go over for dinner and face the drive back in the dark. So we decided to try out the rooms on offer and combine it with a booking for the Curry Night, held on the last Friday of each month. There are just six rooms available, four on the first floor and two suites under the eaves. We were allocated Cyfrwy, described as an Executive Room - comfortable bed, with a hand stitched headboard to represent Cader idris, a stunning stone fireplace, desk, chair, amenity tray and storage and hanging for a modest suitcase full of clothes. The room overlooked the road coming up from Tal-y-llyn and had secondary glazing, which blocked out any traffic noise. The bathroom was compact, but had everything we needed with rainfall shower and four separate heads at about chest level (tricky to manage without getting water on the floor!), ample towels and complimentary toiletries. The bedrooms are accessed by a discreet door, just off the entrance hall to the restaurant, up a flight of stairs (obviously another flight to the suites) and they feel quite private and distinct from the hustle and bustle of the bar and grill downstairs. There was a decent sized TV mounted on the wall, the room was warm and comfortable and we didn't notice any noise from downstairs. Breakfast was served in the morning (which was a Saturday) between the very respectable hours of 8:00 and 10:30. We went down at 9:00 to find that we were the last to come down to eat; the hotel / restaurant is ideally situated for hikers, so we presumed that our fellow guests had got up early to walk. A selection of cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit and fruit juice were available on a table in the middle of the room, with hot choices to order. My waffles with bacon, blueberries and maple syrup was delicious and my other half customised elements of the Full English (or should that be Welsh) and was very complimentary. Service was good, the server was friendly and chatty - people are in mid Wales - and even though, as mentioned, we were the last to eat breakfast, we didn't feel rushed in any way at all. We were looking for a staycation, a short break not too far from home and it suited us well, Cross Foxes is just at that point where the rolling green of mid Wales, our home, morphs into the craggy, mountains of the north and the landscapes are quite stunning, interesting driving too. For those who love the outdoors, this is ideally located, and the hotel has a number of offers for walkers which include such facilities as packed lunches and full board. Well worth a visit.

So happy to see that cross foxes now have a 5 food hygiene rating. I can't wait to visit again. Last time we came we enjoyed our meal and were looking forward to visiting again only to discover a zero food hygiene rating. We will be back very soon. Can't wait

7 of us had Sunday lunch. Beef and Lamb were the choices, food was lovely, both meats excellent! Lovely veg! All food came out together and hot. Puddings excellent too! And 0% Guinness! Really lovely location 10 mins from Cadair Idris. Staff great too! Thank you

Booked 2 nights at Cross Foxes for colleague who was working in the area - and a table for dinner at 7.30pm. Travelling over 4 hours - first night received a phone call to say kitchen closes at 7.30pm so would need to look elsewhere for dinner - there is no "elsewhere" close to Cross Foxes. In the end with 5 mins to spare from arrival - she managed to order a meal. Please do not take bookings for tables at 7.30pm if kitchen is closing at 7.30pm. Breakfast was not available early so she was offered Continental breakfast - left in the fridge. Please ensure that guests know that early breakfast is not available in the establishment when they book bed and breakfast. It would be helpful to publish on website. On the plus side the room was lovely with a modern bathroom but we would not consider booking to stay again.
