On the fringes of Medan, this is a wonderful place to be away and yet less than 30 minutes from the city center, depending traffic. The rooms are spacious and well located on child friendly grounds. The open air restaurant is cool and serves delicious Indonesian fare (ask for the more spicy alternative). Derk and Diane are experts on Medan and reliable travel agents for Sumatra through Trijaya. Their son Roderick is going to take over and should start refurbishing and change the lay-out of the bathrooms, otherwise, this would have been a 5 star experience.

Zoals andere schrijven is het hotel een oase van rust in een drukke omgeving. Wij waren er maar een paar dagen maar alles was prima en naar wens. Er hing een ontspannen sfeer. Het eten was prima. Als er iets aan te merken is heeft dit meer te maken met de omgeving. Er zijn veel moskeeën die oproepen tot gebed en er was ook een kerk waar hard gezongen werd in de avond. Voor het hotel gaat een erg drukke straat voorbij waar je zonder taxi of becahak, niet verder komt. De stad is wat verder weg maar de trip met een becahak naar de stad was echt de moeite waard. Je moet dan niet al te bang aangelegd zijn want het verkeer is een chaos. Als extra service liggen er oordopjes op de kamer wat dan wel weer goed gevonden is.

We spend the first and last night of our holiday at Hotel Deli River and definitely recommend to start your Sumatra trip here. It’s a warm Indonesian welcome with an European touch. The rooms are very clean and spacious, perfect for a rest after a long flight. But the highlight for us was the garden; it is amazing with several places to relax in private. The onsite restaurant has a beautiful architecture where we had the best rendang during the whole trip! The staff was also very friendly and helpful during our stay.

Would definitely recommend this hotel! It’s a peaceful oasis within Medan’s busyness and the perfect place to relax after hours of traveling. The staff was the friendliest we’ve had during our whole trip, always willing to help. The room was very beautiful and comfortable, as were the dining areas and the large pool. From within the pool, you have a beautiful view overlooking the jungle. Also, we loved the breakfast buffet with a range of options, with both sweet and savory options. We also had dinner there both nights, because of how delicious and affordable it was. Wish we could’ve stayed a bit longer!

The hotel was quite nice, but the restaurant not so good. I ordered a black pepper beef to my room, and it was the toughest meat I have eaten in years. So tough I just gave up chewing and put it back on the plate. Th breakfast we paid for was a bit boring.

Our stay was exceptional from the beginning with the driver meeting us at the airport and taking us to get SIM cards on the way - those little things that help in a new place. The hotel is an oasis in Medan, surrounded by greenery and grounds well maintained by the staff. The pool overlooks the river and the staff will bring any drinks or snacks down there for you. Rooms are comfortable and spread out across the property. The restaurant is first class and affordable. Overall it was a luxurious and relaxing trip and the family who runs it are super knowledgeable on Medan as well as the rest of Sumatra. Will be back next time I’m in Medan - so much more of Sumatra to still explore.

Kan geen negatieve dingen bedenken. Mooie grote kamers en netjes. Erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Goed ontbijt en als het rustig was, bediening aan de tafel. Anders ontbijtbuffet. Mooie tuin en plekken om te relaxen

Goede kamer, handig ingedeeld met aparte badkamer met ruime douche met een heerlijke waterstraal. Mooie tuin, vrij steil hellend pad van receptie, restaurant naar kamers. Groot restaurant met aardige kaart. Het ontbijt werd erg traag bediend, lastig als je op tijd weg wil. Rustige ligging, muv de moskeeën rondom.
