I loved this hotel. It has an old-fashioned charm that made me feel right at home. My room was very large, comfortable, and well-equipped. All of the staff and service people were extremely courteous from start to finish. The Chinese restaurant on the 7th floor has a great choice of dishes! Highly recommended, and excellent value for money. A great base for exploring the sights around Datong.

The hotel is really good and convenient. It's in a walking distance from the Ancient City and Walls, there are several small shops and local food stalls around it. The breakfast is completely Chinese style, but it's good. The gym is very small, in fact, not even a separate room, just very few machines, but it was not that important for us. Personnel are very helpful. Everyone did their best to make our stay comfortable. Especially, the manager Kristina - she is very kind, helpful, assisted us a lot, with some practical things and some advice, when it was necessary. Definitely, will stay here another time.

It takes 20 to 30 minutes for one person to take a shower before hot water comes out. There are reminders on the wall. The room is small and there is no toilet paper. There is no partition in the bathroom for showering. There are only a few TV channels and the effect is poor. Parking is difficult: there are only two parking spaces at the entrance of the hotel. It may be that their internal staff's cars are always occupied. Although there is a small parking lot at the back, it seems that it can park five or six cars, but there are actually only two or three empty spaces, and the parking lot entrance is often blocked by parked cars. Although the boss will come to help solve it, it is always inconvenient. Therefore, the hotel will arrange parking on the sidewalk, but I heard that you will be fined during the day. When we arrived we were given the wrong room in B tower with single beds, we had to go back downstairs and show the booking again to request the correct double room in A tower. The rooms and amenities are old, and the fridge is broken. I called reception who told me to bring any items I want to cool down to the reception and use their fridge, when I asked if we can swap the broken fridge for a working fridge, they said all of the fridges are like this. They won't admit the fridges are all broken, but all of the fridges in the hotel are warm and won't make your food / beverages cold. The hotel is in dire need of an upgrade, and they need to replace the fridges.

I am from Malaysia, totally obsessed with this place and location, the person in charge, the lady explained to us the story and the history of this 2000 years old building Old Pipa ,I know is the old building with historic but didn't know the much story behind until I Google it, very appreciated that we still able to enjoy such a beautiful and well maintained room and building . The room come with a/c,hot shower smart toilet bowl, slipper and toothbrush and kettle. Breakfast is good. Love it. Hope people that come to stay here spent some time on the architectural and antiques that display in the duilding. Will definitely introduce to my friends and family if they visit 山西。
