This is a roadside motel, and looks fairly old, but it is kept up reasonably well. The room was small, just big enough for two double beds, and a nightstand between them, so the people on the other side of both beds would not have good light for reading. The beds were fairly comfortable. The shower/toilet part of the bathroom was small, but the shower had a nice big showerhead with good spray and plenty warm. The bathroom had basic toiletries and a sink out in the main room. So not very quiet and hard to keep dark if people in the bedroom are sleeping. There even was an ironing board, but no iron. The bedroom had a desk, comfortable desk chair, but no other seating. There was a combination chest of drawers/ cabinet with a large mini-fridge, with a small microwave and a small flatscreen TV on top. Wifi worked fine. The wall AC is in the sink area of the bathroom, so even though it's a bit loud, it is not in the bedroom. It was off when we arrived, but cooled down a very warm room in less than an hour, and kept us comfortable all night. There is a small continental breakfast with make your own waffles, bagels, English muffins, cereal, juice, fruit, coffee, etc. Not bad. There was seating for 10 people, plus a table for six on the deck. Service was friendly and prompt. An Indian family is running the motel. They seem to take some pride in running a decent place, not just milking it for money. The price was fair, all things considered, especially for mid-coast Maine during a summer of COVID. But book ahead. Everything fills up and then prices go through the roof.

I am new to Brunswick and thought I would try The Federal to see if it would be a place we can enjoy the next four years while our student attends Bowdoin College. I was pleasantly surprised. I typically opt for new & modern and fully expected an old hotel experience which is not typically my style. I was pleasantly surprised. Not only is it updated and modern, I was extremely happy at how clean the room was given my allergy to dust. The housekeeper was top notch, friendly, and helpful. One nice touch was fresh coffee offered all morning on each floor. Every staff member I came in contact with was very hospitable & friendly. I was on the third floor facing the highway and given it was a full house weekend, the hotel was extremely quiet & beds were so comfortable. I also was impressed by dinner in 555 North which is clearly one of the more upscale restaurants in Brunswick. The only thing missing in this hotel is workout equipment. Cardio equipment and some dumbbells would go a long way in the yoga room especially given the long Maine winters. This would be the only reason I would choose another hotel over The Federal upon future visits.

The desk person was great, the room very clean and odor free. Surprised how quiet it was being so close to major highways. Much of
the hotel runs away from the road toward a wooded area. It`s not a 5 star and shows normal wear and tear for it`s age, a little floor squeaking from above, etc. One would have to be a snob to find anything to complain about. Excellent value for the area and the times.

Doing the swing through Maine to visit schools and spent one night here (near Bowdoin). Location is near the highway, a bit outside of the town, which was fine. We had booked what was advertised as a one bedroom suite, but realistically it was more of a junior suite. The living room and bedroom only had a half wall between them, they could not be closed off separately. The living area was extremely tight also, if you had opened up the sleeper sofa I'm not sure you would have been able to walk by it. The room though was clean, the beds were comfortable and it overall had a ”nicer” feel to it. Breakfast was included, although it ended fairly early at 9:00. While there was plenty of food, it was all pre packaged, warmed up in the microwave options. I understand that with the pandemic many hotels eliminated their buffets and fresh cooked foods, but at this point it is starting to feel like they are simply appreciating that it is cheaper to just nuke a bunch of breakfast burritos vs having fresh options. Overall, the hotel was on the very good side, but I wouldn't say great. I appreciated that it was comfortable, convenient, and well appointed and potentially would stay there again if I was in the area.

Outstanding
We have visited this place a few times now. We like the walk to the sea and the local golf course a few miles away. It is peaceful and laid back with a few dogs running around to liven things up a bit. Smores by the firepit and hanging outside at night is very nice too. The rooms are just like the facility itself: well done. Really well done. They work hard on impressing you with the food and for the most part are excellent. I think they overdo it a bit on breakfast and they do not have those uber sausages anymore but they have the Rishi!
GGuest UserThe Press Hotel is a very nice hotel; clean, modern, upscale. But I found the valuer for the money was lacking. The food in their restaurant, Union, was above average but the prices were too high for what you got. Breakfast for two (one order of oatmeal and one order of a smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese) came to $44, and with a 20% tip thrown in the meal cost $53. For breakfast! My dinner the night before was similar; very tasty food, but not worth the $125 price for two people. If you don't mind spending lots of $$, it's a great hotel with excellent service and nice rooms.
GGuest UserThe price/performance ratio is relatively high, suitable for taking children with you. The swimming pool is also good, and the breakfast can be used for two casually.

GGuest UserWe made a last minute decision to take a trip from the NYC area up to Portland to attend an event, and with Labor Day weekend traffic, we did not arrive until about 11:30PM at night with 3 exhausted kids. We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel -- the kids slept in the bedroom and my husband and I slept on the pull-out couch in the living room area of the suite. I was anticipating noise because of the proximity to the airport, but we never heard a single plane! When we requested extra towels, pillows, blankets, etc they were brought up in a timely fashion by a friendly and helpful staff member. The included breakfast was a really nice perk -- everyone had plenty of options (one of our travel companions is vegan and had options). My husband in particular enjoyed the freshly made omlets.
GGuest UserI chose this place as a less expensive alternative to hotels in Portland. Also because motels are safer during COVID than hotels (more ventilation because the room opens to the outdoors). First, I want to say my room was clean and comfortable. It's nothing fancy, but you get what you pay for. Also, I had a last-minute change to my reservation and the manager was very accommodating. So, thank you for that. My one non-COVID sort-of complaint is that, while you get a fridge and microwave (nice features), there's no coffee maker in the room. Would be nice to have that instead of the microwave, maybe. My biggest issue is that there were no COVID protocols in place. I went into the office to check in and the office was SEALED. I mean no windows open, door shut. The manager who checked me in was not wearing a mask. Two other guests were in there. I was the only one wearing a mask. And check in still involves filling out a card, even if you book on Booking.com, so it takes several minutes. I was quite eager to get out of there. When I got to my room, I realized he had given me a queen room rather than the king I booked, but I didn't want to go back into the office to request a room change. Then it occurred to me that if the manager wasn't wearing a mask, housekeeping probably didn't either. I kept the door open and opened the windows to air out my room before removing my mask, following what the experts say. Please open your office windows. It was 72 degrees and gorgeous outside. No reason to have everything sealed up.
CchuGreat location tho it wasn't situation in the heart of downtown. Clean and bright room. Due to the covid the housekeeping service wasn't delivered during the 3 nights we stayed. The price was extremely expensive (actually all hotels in the whole Portland). Anyhow, great spacious room and I had a pleasant stay.
GGuest User4.5 stars We stayed one night while passing through Portland on the way home. Check-in was quick and friendly. The lobby is nice. Room was clean, spacious, and updated. Bed was comfortable. Front desk staff were helpful. Location is great! We had a couple of great walks to dinner or to get coffee. The Old Port neighborhood was cute! We ordered room service for breakfast. Service was slower than expected due to staffing issues, but we both enjoyed our meals. We didn’t get to take advantage of the spa or restaurant, but if we find ourselves in Portland again, we definitely will. We always have nice experiences at Westins, and this stay was no different.
The room was very hot, and it was difficult to control the temperature. What bothered me most, however, was that no housekeeping services are provided unless you are staying over three nights. The misleading tiny sign over the sink states that towels will not be changed in order to save energy. How much energy do they save by not making the bed? It does not tell you that the bed will not be made or the room vacuumed. All other hotels I have stayed in give you the option to decline housekeeping, but not La Quinta. They seem to think the guests are ignorant and will not realize that what they are saving is money for the company rather than energy, and it this dishonesty that will cause me to choose a different hotel next time.
KKatherineThe hotel staff were extremely nice at check in and out. They also tried to be accommodating when we asked for pen an paper. However the stay was supposed to include pool access, which it did not. As well as continental breakfast, which was simply a jar of cereal, frozen sausage or eggs an a few bagels. There was only bananas for fruit an not many, first come first serve it seemed. They also had a very outdated waffle batter machine that would probably be very health questionable.. Our room was comfy, however the dirty qtip we saw next to the couch as soon as we walked in and the giant cobwebs in the corner were a little off putting.. After being in the area we probably wouldn't be back unless it was the last option..
