Staff and food good. But…. No gym/sauna since Covid. No good reason for not opening. The entire hotel is blighted by self inflicted noise. It should be quiet being as it is in a secluded semi rural location, however some crazy plumbing and design choices mean a very poor quality water pump has been installed which means a very loud and sleep suppressing noise whenever any room nearby uses the shower or runs a basin or a bath. Presumably it is used to create a good level of water pressure or flow but it needs replacing rapidly. The noise is especially bad in the nice main house rooms and slightly less apparent in the very bland and poorly furnished annex rooms. Basically you can forget sleep except between 12midnight and 0530 when in most circumstances you can rely on people not running hot water. I’d emphasise though that the staff are very very nice and helpful and know what customer service means. Food is very good even when there seems to be one person doing everything ( low staffing and occupancy in January mid week). Nice real fire. Good character and location. But the test of an acceptable hotel is first and foremost a peaceful nights sleep. Massive investment needed if this hotel is going be anything other than a nice place for weddings and functions where the alcohol probably helps with the sleep.
