Fantastic overnight stay. Couldn’t ask for more. Room was spotless and well appointed. We had a wonderful dinner and ate far too much! Wine range excellent and great ales on tap too. Staff were all marvellous. My wife has to eat gluten free and staff and kitchen were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about it. I never normally eat a dessert but had to try the Scottish Tablet dessert. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! The obviously home made tablet took me right to being a bairn again and eating my mother’s recipe. “It wid bring a tear tae a glass eye!” We will definitely be back. Fantastic pub, restaurant and hotel.

Occasion : we telephoned enroute fro messed to Cambs. To get an impromptu lunch at a pub I’ve visited previously ( when owned / managed by the Olivers ) and now knew it was part of the Chesbut group, a chain I’ve again previously visited and had excellent experiences On arrival at 2pm, we were shown to a table next to a young family with children, very very screaming load children where parents weren’t asking them to be quiet So we asked politely to be moved A gentleman then showed us to a table in the area behind the bar, al seemed good But within a few minutes the group immediately behind us expanded to a lot larger group with young children. :-(. That would have been ok as they weren’t excessively noisy. But… the children then started to play as a group on the floor in the walkway immediately behind my chair My wife and I decided to leave. A young waitress saw us stand and leave and I explained the reason why we were leaving My understanding is the Cricketers is a pub / restaurant NOT a crèche or a child’s bedroom / play area or living room When I got home I wrote to the chefs it group and I received a reply from Genevieve to say they couldn’t control how parents ‘parent’ And was sorry we didn’t have a good time I din’t agree with this response and advised it was the pub and its staff responsibility at worse, health and safety that children shouldn’t be playing on floors in public walkways or immediately behind other patrons seats The Cricketers don’t agree and.said they did all they could and my complaints were beyond anything within their control I am not complaining that there were children in the establishment of course not, and I even said on day, if that’s the approach the pub took for Sundays to be a family establishment so be it but on this occasion too noisy and too many children not being controlled so we left I can’t judge the food as we never had any, but since writing to the cricketers, I would have said that on this occasion they had let us down and they should have spoken to the parents who’s children were playing on the floor behind us. But they say this isn’t in their control or can’t tell parents how to parent ? If we were to revisit it most definitely won’t be on a Sunday lunchtime Other pubs in the group have been far far better

An attractive country pub in a good location. Unfortunately we had a few issues that were reasonably easily resolved however regular maintenance would avoid this. Our evening meal was average at best and the young girl that checked us in was quite disinterested however the rest of the staff were very good. Breakfast was however very good and quite a contrast to the experience we had the night before. Our room was upstairs was particularly noisy and it would have been helpful to have been prepared about this as we may have chosen elsewhere to stay. It sounded like we were right outside an extractor fan for the kitchen which went till very late at night and resumed very early in the morning.

We stayed over the bank holiday weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Cricketers . The service was friendly and professional.. The food was very good. Overall great value for money. What more can I say! Highly recommended for both food and accommodation.

We had an amazing last minute August bank holiday night away. I cannot fault a thing. The food, staff and accommodation were all amazing and set within a beautiful location in the Essex countryside. We have now decided to return next year with more family for a special birthday celebration, cannot wait!

We stopped for a coffee while out cycling. Not only was the espresso really nice, but they gave us some free jam and toast. How friendly is that! Very pretty low ceilingedcountry pub with a very pleasant patio at the front. Get there early if you want breakfast

Hadn't been for a few years and was looking forward to celebrating a birthday. Trouble was, the food was average at best and very overpriced for what turned out to be standard pub grub. The last time we were here each dish was interesting and carefully prepared. This time I could have made all of these dishes myself, and, to a better standard. I'm afraid this is off the list of 'special places to eat'.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay to celebrate our anniversary. Love the pub atmosphere, seriously missed in our own village since changes of owners. Food was good, I wouldn't say outstanding but pretty good. Surprised that the steak had run out, but we still had a pleasant meal and enjoyed interacting with the locals. Great fun. We stayed in Edgbaston at the Willow Rooms. Nice spacious room but why oh why (like most other hotels - you are not alone) don't you provide comfortable seating. With stays like ours, people are likely to spend time in their room not necessarily for a bit of nooky. Particularly not at our age, both being octogenarians Maybe they would like to read a book, do a crossword or even watch TV There was enough space in our room to accommodate a small 3 piece suite, but all we had was a single conical shaped shopping basket on legs. Really uncomfortable. It's not just the Cricketers, it's almost all the hotels in the UK. Put yourself above the others. Put a couple of reasonable armchairs in the rooms. I appreciate, maybe it may not work in all rooms, but it certainly would in ours. I look forward to visiting you again, but please can we have a couple of nice chairs next time. Thanks for an enjoyable evening.
