Find the Cheap Salem Hotels

I booked a stay at the holiday inn in Salem nh Friday may 19 to sat may 20 for me and my boyfriend to stay after attending a wedding in the area. I booked the 2 double bed room about 2 weeks ago with no problem. I received a few emails leading up to my stay reassuring me that this hotel would provide exceptional service and comfort. Since I was part of the wedding party my boyfriend was the one to arrive and check in. He did so around 4 pm on Friday may 19. Check in went smoothly, we got assigned room 318 and he made his way to the room. No problem with the room everything was fine and he got dressed and left some of his belongings in the room, and headed to the venue. We got back later that night to the hotel around 12:45am to a fire alarm going off. We waited and about 20 mins later it turned off and we made our way to the room. Once we got to the door my boyfriend used to the key he was given and tried to open the door, it was latched from the inside with all the lights off. We thought it was weird and maybe we got the wrong room. Tried one more time then attempted to unlock the door next to it thinking we got the rooms mixed up, no luck. He tried the door one more time, and a mans voice comes out the dark room and he shuts the door and we head to the front lobby. I gave my name and asked what room we had been assigned. I was told 318, I told the guy at the desk there was a man in my room. Confused he called our room and sure enough a man answered, he had been on a reservation for that night but not for that room number, he was suppose to be in 310 with a roommate but somehow ended up in our room. After some time I was told he was part of corporate and normally travels with a roommate, but still no explanation how he got into our room when my boyfriend had already gone thru check in and was assigned and given a key. No help and no explanation of how someone could be given a key to my assigned room with no record of that man being assigned that room . There are a lot of what if scenarios that could have happened that night with a strange man being in a room under a Womens reservation. What if I was alone in that room when that strange man made his was in.. A man I’m assuming was their janitor or maybe security guard went up to the room with my boyfriend to get my his personal belongings that were still in the room. Once up there the man answered the door and my boyfriend said he was dirty and the room smelled really bad. The janitor/security man he was with said something along of the lines of that man didn’t seem right . To add to this wonderful experience, we were told there were no other rooms available that night since they were fully booked. Mind you it is close to 2 am at this point. We got told they could try to find us somewhere else to stay. But as annoyed as we were we decided we rather drive the hour home. I wanted a writing/health retreat in a quiet location and was at first appalled to discover that this inn was on a very busy commercial street. But it's set so far back off the road that one really can't hear the traffic, especially if one is in a back room near the trees as I was. What was also particularly nicet was that it was next to a large Barnes and Noble (!!) and within walking distance of several restaurants, as well as a large shopping center. One could enter civilization and then return to one's quiet room - in my case, with several new books to distract me from writing! The room was in perfect condition, clean, with refrigerator, tv, shower and tub, coffeemaker all working perfectly. My only complaint was that I strained my eyes at night because the room was too dark and the lamps didn't provide adequate lighting for doing a lot of reading/writing at night. Next time I will bring a lamp and hope that there's enough space in the electric outlets to plug it in!

Pros: Beautiful new(ish) hotel with a beautiful pool area. There was a DJ by the pool who played a decent variety of music. The bar cart is available for drinks and food orders. The attendants/bartenders were extremely pleasant and accommodating. The shops were very nice (mostly known storefronts). I found some great deals at the J. Crew outlet! Both the cafe and Italian restaurant were very good. Cons: We had to battle to get lounge chairs at the pool. There seemed to be chairs with used towels for hours, without an appearance from those who left them there. Perhaps staff should be collecting them, assuming the chairs are unattended. When we checked in, I was asked if we wanted cookies. I thought how nice! The cookies never came. Then we wanted to shower, there were only 2 towels for the 3 of us. We were told there were no more, and that they didn't know when we would be able to get them. One of us ended up running down to the pool and grabbed some there. My Elite Platinum status was not recognized, although when I told the front desk about the perks, she did hand me 2-$10 vouchers towards breakfast. I was not offered an upgrade. Being a hotel and food snob, I must say this is definitely one of the better hotels I've been to. I can forgive the mishaps. Perhaps they are still working out the kinks. If not for the blunders, I would have given them a 5 star rating.

Clean room, but half of the electrical outlets didn't work. The apartment size refrigerator was hot and never really cooled down. The coffeemaker made cool coffee. The shower was clean and fresh. The floor had food and other particles on it in the bathroom and near the sink. The beds were comfortable. Do ask for a room facing away from the road.

The hotel has free parking, the surrounding hotels are more expensive, this price is OK, breakfast is American, still rich, 9:00 ended, the room space design is reasonable. It is not cleaned thoroughly under the bathroom shower curtain, a bit moldy

I had a very wonderful experience at the Hampton inn in Haverhill. The atmosphere is so relaxed, and it's very clean, and the service was just outstanding! I am both deaf and have difficulty with my legs, and everybody was so helpful to me. It was wonderful to take a bath in the handicapped accessible bathtub! I haven't been able to take a real bath in years! I will be sure to bring my bath salts the next time around, LOL! And the breakfast was to die for, waffles, omelets, fresh fruit, and the coffee was perfect. I have never had a bad experience at a Hampton inn, but this was an exceptional stay. I just became a Hilton rewards client, and I plan to be staying at Hampton inns a lot in the next year as I travel. Thank you so much for the service you provided.

We were only staying one night so this is the type of hotel we like. Plus, being Marriott Bonvoy members, we were given a room on a high floor away from the elevator. Yay. Check-in was seamless. We were in our suite style room in minutes. I like the expanded space this hotel offers with a desk/kitchenette area separate from the sleeping area. Our room looked out over the wooded area at the back of the hotel but given this hotel's location at the end of the road, I don't think there would be much noise either way. The breakfast area was a little crowded by the way the food is set up in an alcove. But nothing that can't be overcome with a little patience. They offered the standard far of scrambled eggs, sausage patties and waffles. Given our limited time, this was the perfect stop. Would be happy to return.

I got the best experience with the staff from the moment I checked in Lisa was so welcoming thank me for being a diamond member and ask if there's anything else she could do and gave me a nice warm cookie. very happy Then I went to the dining area where I met Lisa which was one of the bartenders and I got the same nice warm welcome she was very attentive and anything I needed was taking care of immediately. Which was very impressive because there was a full bar. I definitely will be back and recommend it to my company to bring all our people of people here. Very nice experience all around

We booked a one night stay to celebrate our daughter's birthday with friends and family. My in-laws flew in from Florida and were staying at the hotel all week. We requested a two bedroom suite next to them. The hotel said they could accommodate our request. When we went to check in there was no one at the reception desk. Eventually some rude woman asked if we were all set. I told her I was there to check in. She said they moved our reservations to the Springhill Marriott down the street. No one emailed or called me to inform me of this change. I asked if it was a two bedroom suite and she said no. She said the new room had two queen beds. She said that because my original suite technically had two queen beds, one in each bedroom that this was comparable and that I could take it or leave it. This change of plans had our family split between two hotels. Not ideal for a party. Additionally, the new room didn't have a kitchen or living room with a pullout sofa like we had planned. I understand that the hotel had a sprinkler malfunction and it flooded out half the hotel but giving away our room and not notifying us was beyond unprofessional. Can I also say that there were two police in the lobby because the hotel was having difficulty evicting a resident from one of the flooded rooms and that this hotel serves as a shelter for the state. I wish I had know this before booking. I feel like other future customers should know this. Needless to say this place operates more like a shelter than an actual hotel. How this place can call themselves a Marriott is beyond me. Do yourself a favor and stay away!
