Lake view from room is superb and hotel staff is fantastic. Room has no shower tub so guests must use the public onsen, which can be cleaner like all common area (maybe it is the age of the hotel showing). Outdoor onsen is lovely, but English information is lacking on how to access it, like all facilities here since the staff speaks no English and no English hotel manuals are provided. Hotel did not provide dinner service during my stay and there was only one Okonomiyaki restaurant nearly. Mosquitos galore in my room and I was bitten all over (probably due to the lakeside location); even the anti-mosquito solution provided by the hotel did not help. Even considering the higher room price, it is a treat to visit this amazingly beautiful, remote corner of Japan.
My husband and I are enjoying a hot spring inn ♨️. This time I went to ”Hotel Subaru” which was in a 5-star inn. Since it is in the mountains, I was planning to enjoy only the hot springs, and there was Kumano Hongu Taisha on the way, so I went to visit. There was a large parking lot after passing through a tunnel from a narrow road, and Hotel Subaru was among various facilities. Like a village revitalization resort? It's a feeling. I checked in at the small front desk and entered the room. The room feels old, but it was well-cleaned and I was taken care of in a Japanese-style room, but the bedding was also clean. I was worried about the smallness of the pillow, but I slept well. The hot spring of the facility with a day trip bath was very comfortable with the open-air bath flowing directly from the source. My wife is a women's bath and the aunts in the neighborhood? It seems that he was cleaning the bathroom naked with a brush while talking. It seems that I didn't feel like it was a smile. Lol 🤗 I had a kaiseki meal at the restaurant. The restaurant was partitioned due to the corona disaster, so I was able to eat with peace of mind. The food was well seasoned and delicious. The price of a luxury ryokan is delicious and natural, but it was a comfortable and affordable accommodation with delicious food and an open-air bath with a free-flowing source. I would like to take care of you again.
This ryokan onsen hotel feels new and clean overall; even without a shower tub in the room, I did not mind going to its nice public onsen for bathing. Dinner and Breakfast are both excellent. I used this hotel as a base to visit the incomparable Maruyama Senmaida and Doro-kyo Gorge / Kitayama, using a rented bike from Kumano Itaya Kurobe no sato, Michino-no-eki in Kiwacho Itaya. Hotel staff and Customer Service at this hotel are also the best, as evidenced by the free hotel shuttle back to Kumano or Shingu. Without question, this is the best hotel out of the 18 I stayed at during my 5 week trip to Japan this Spring.

We stayed here for a night during a 3 day hike, and this hostel style hotel exceeded our expectation. The bento box for dinner was better than expected. The porridge in the morning was great, especially with the extra toppings provided with it. Even the coffee included was much appreciated. We had a private room, and it met all our needs. The onsens were great! 3 are there and never seemed to be busy…I recommend the outside one. Location is also ideal…only a 2 minute walk to the town Onsen. We usually like to stay in 3 star hotels or better seeing we are not hostel type people anymore, but we would stay here again, and I would recommend this place to anyone.
I want to go around Kumano Sanzan without a car, and when I plan to travel to Kumano Kodo for a little, there is a transfer from JR Shirahama station, and I know this inn that I will pick up and drop off to Kumano Kodo for free I decided to stay. I was very helpful because I was worried about the bad access of Kumano Hongu Taisha shrine and how to get a small number of public buses. It was more than expected, but multiple family baths that were put without reservation. I was surprised by the luxury size. This inn often introduces a photograph of a large open-air bath, but I also entered once, but if you are a guest, the family bath is definitely recommended. However, the hot water is hot, so it may be severe in summer? The room should not expect luxury. There is an old but clean, so there is no complaint. The impression that the meal is usually delicious if you take the inn. I had a drink at night, but it was very cheap (it was twice the price at the inn the next day)
