Arrived at lunch time and told our rooms were ready so we didn’t have to wait until 3 pm which is normal check in time . Went to the restaurant and had lunch which was lovely and would satisfy even the biggest appetites I’m sure. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful even though they were extremely busy and the had a funeral wake there as well as their lunchtime patrons. Our rooms were bijou but perfectly adequate for one night as had everything you needed including an iron and ironing board also hairdryers were available at reception. The shower room while small was functional and a plentiful supply of hot water . We had dinner in the restaurant as we had travelled up from Wales and didn’t want to drive anywhere else to eat. We weren’t disappointed the menu was varied and all home cooked . Staff again friendly and helpful so it was enjoyed by all. We retired to bed after a few drinks and the bed was so comfortable and warm . The breakfast which is also included in the price of the room was excellent, buffet style and plenty for everyone. All in all a great stop over at a very reasonable price. Their biggest asset is their staff who were all extremely pleasent and helpful with no requests being too much trouble for them . Would definitely recommend The Old Stone Trough to anyone if you’re looking for a fair priced stay with great food and comfy beds

We've just spent 2 nights at The Alma Inn. The hotel is a sensitively, refurbished 18th century coach house.The rooms are very well appointed and include waters, quality biscuits, tea and coffee. The bed and pillows were very comfy and the en-suite was large. The Inn is in an ideal location for many places of interest. The views of rolling countryside are faboulous. We were in the restaurant both nights and there was an excellent choice and all was very well cooked and presented with speedy service. I had one of the specials which was Seafood Choo Chee and it had an incredible depth of flavour. The desserts were excellent too. My dark chocolate fondant was like something off Masterchef - crispy on the outside and liquid in the middle. I'm gluten intolerant and my allergy was very well catered for. Breakfast was varied and delicious. The staff were terrific. Emma was friendly and knowledgeable about the foods on the menu etc and Yvonne, at breakfast, was also very friendly and suggested some good walks. We would not hesitate to go again. This is a great hotel in a beautiful setting with fantastically friendly and helpful staff. My husband enjoyed the excellent spa experience but it is quite expensive at £40 for 2 hours at the weekend (£30 midweek). He thought the combination of swimming pool, infinity pools, infared room, himalayan salt sauna and other saunas/steam room was wonderful. We had dinner both nights, once in the main View restaurant and once in the Macleod bar. Both were very tasty and to be recommended. They take allergies very seriously, too. What let the hotel down was the quality of the towels, bathrobes and bed linens which were greying and probably more than a little bit past their best, especially considering the luxury positioning of the hotel. The bathroom also wasn't as clean as it should have been, so maybe housekeeping is an area to work on. We would definitely visit again but choose midweek to avoid the breakfast rush caused by wedding parties. Overall, it was a great stay.
