Got a last-minute reservation here in a torrential downpour when our ferry to Bar Harbor was cancelled and we ended up in St. John. Surprisingly, the beds at this Holiday Inn Express were superb - firm, with excellent back support - better than at 99% of the other hotels we have stayed at (including many with higher ratings). The pool was clean and well-maintained, and long enough to swim serious laps in. Our whole short, rainy stay here was comfortable, and we would happily return (if the sun ever comes out).

The hotel was great, the room was clean, check in was easy, the breakfast was good but I would have preferred a buffer for the hot food. The area is next to a homeless encampment that made us very uncomfortable to walk through or by. Would not go back for that reason.
This hotel is terrible, which is unfortunate because it has so much potential. -The rooms need updating. Terrible layout, dated and worn. -The staff although friendly was not overly helpful when we made a couple of easy requests. They didn’t seem interested in even listening to us and most of the time there were two to three of them standing/sitting around talking to each other at the front desk avoiding acknowledging guests in the area. -The absolute WORST part about this hotel is the insanely bright lights that they have lighting up the exterior of the building pointed right at the windows on the front side of the hotel without proper coverings on the inside to keep it out. There have been mutiple complaints/mentions of this in past reviews with the standard replies from hote management stating that they “strive for excellence” however they obviously don’t take the reviews seriously because the bright lights are still pointing right at the windows! Simple fix but no action taken. Unfortunately this takes away from any positives of the property as a result. Great location and nice pool area but wouldn’t stay here again given other options in the area and hotel managements inability to take this issue seriously and get it fixed.
This hotel is considered to be the most cost-effective hotel in this trip. The hotel is comfortable and the price is close to the people, and St. John's is a very characteristic city with a very good ecological environment. Driving in the suburbs, you can see the sika deer squatting leisurely. The location is right in the heart of the city. The fly in the ointment is that the hotel parking is not free.
Although the room is not new, the facilities are good, the sea is next to it, and parking is very convenient. The parking tickets given by the hotel can be freely entered and paid without paying. The booked room does not include breakfast. The buffet on the first floor can be paid at your own expense. The semi-buffet is more than 16 Canadian dollars per person. The baby is free. It is very cost-effective and the breakfast is very rich.
The accessible king suite with Jacuzzi tub was great! There was no shower chair, but they found one after asking a bunch of times. It took an in person visit to the front desk to rectify this problem. The hot tub in the pool area was nice and hot, but the jets were broken. This was not stated anywhere on the website that I could find. Where our room was located was great, but the hallway is not that accessible as the laundry dept is right beside it and sloppy house keeping carts block the hallway partially. Also don’t bother doing the pre check in to save time as their system id so slow snd outdated Its quicker just to fo it in person. Another issue was pool towels. They told us uppon check in thst they were out, 3.5 hours later we managed to find one. There was also a dirty towel in our room at check in. All in all we had a good stay, but for the price we paid it could have been much much better.
