The hotel looks really nice when you drive up and in the central area (bar) of the old building. Then you get to your room. The room is very dated, the furniture looks like it's been there since the 1980's and is marked/damaged. The general décor - carpets, walls etc. were also very scruffy. The bathroom had a broken floor tile and mould around the bath/shower and also on the ceiling. We had a 2 night stay with dinner on the first night. The dinner menu choice was very limited with the better looking options requiring an additional payment. All 3 courses we both had were terrible, how can you be so consistently bad? Food tasteless or over-cooked (steak was dry and stringy). Breakfast on 1st day was OK, but on 2nd and final (thankfully) day some of the pastries ran out by 8.30am with no more available when I asked. Some of the cooked options were very poor; bacon you couldn't cut and hash browns that were soggy, The location was convenient for the event we were attending and while I saw poor reviews from other guests before I booked, I didn't think it could be that bad as it is rated 4 star. Well, it is that bad. If you are looking at staying in the area, look elsewhere. On checking out, I had to wait a b it as there was a queue of complainants ahead of me. As a constructive suggestion, as your restaurant is so poor, many customers will go to the pub just up the road. On coming back to the hotel in the dark it was strange you had no lighting down the driveway. Perhaps you could install some low level lighting to help customers - but why start now?
