My Honest Experience After Reading Negative Reviews I was initially quite hesitant to check into this hotel after reading a number of detailed and lengthy negative reviews, especially those highlighting hidden fees and cleanliness issues. However, upon arrival with my partner, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was clean and well-decorated, with a modern and cohesive style. Our check-in process was fast and efficient, and the receptionist was friendly and happy to answer all of our questions—especially about the fees mentioned on the hotel’s website. One of the main issues people seem to bring up is the so-called “hidden” fees. In my experience, these fees are not actually hidden—they’re listed on the hotel’s official website. That said, they could definitely be communicated more clearly. It’s important to read the fine print when booking and during check-in. While the fees may not be obvious at first glance, the hotel is legally allowed to include them since they are technically disclosed. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with enough space to hang clothes. There were multiple hangers, and the locker-style closets matched the hotel’s sporty decor. The floor and bathroom were clean overall, though I did spot a spider in the corner of the shower—but nothing alarming. The downstairs common area includes an open kitchen with a communal fridge and even a crockpot, which was a nice surprise. There were also several games available, like ping pong and air hockey, which makes this place family- and couple-friendly. Guests are allowed to enjoy drinks provided in the kitchen. If you’re sensitive to noise, particularly trains, I recommend requesting a room farther down the hall on the first floor. Our room was in a quiet spot—I barely noticed the train, and when I did, it was more like soft white noise. Still, bringing earplugs might help if you’re a light sleeper. Overall, I recommend this hotel. It’s in a nice area, the decor is visually appealing, and the stay was enjoyable. Just be aware of a $120 refundable deposit (if no damage is done to the room) and an additional $50 guest fee. Knowing that ahead of time helps avoid surprises. I’m very grateful for the pleasant stay and would return again.

A greatly designed hotel. Location is a little bit far from the downtown area, but really close to a metro station.

The hotel is conveniently located near the railway, and the staff were very friendly. Additionally, I was given a room that wasn't near the railway tracks, which was very peaceful.

Between the drunk herd of partygoers parading down the hallway from 1 AM to 4 AM, and the COCKROACHES, you should save yourself the money and book anywhere else, but here.

I wanted to share my experience so others are aware that the previous reviews are very accurate. The staff was not very nice especially Noemi. When I initially booked my reservation for 3 nights it was through trivago. I reserved the standard room which trivago said was 2 beds. I paid $336 for the room. They told me I would have to pay $202.89 at the hotel when I checked in. I understand that sometimes third parties are not updated with the actual hotel fees. The day I checked in, I was told by Noemi that I was going to be charged $49.95 + 17.4% tax for amenities (which was basically just 6 waters a day, 24/7 coffee and tea availability, and laundry detergent if you want to wash and discounts to certain places which they never gave me information for, I was also never given the free wifi information) She also said there is a reservation fee of $40 + tax that they added on. Total charged $316.83. I was confused as to why it was so much but Noemi kept telling me those are just the fees of the hotel. It was late at night and I just wanted to go to my room. When I got to my room, I was given a 1 full size bed for 2 adults. The bed sheets were dirty and the toilet paper holder was broken. I went back down to let them know that I reserved 2 beds and they told me that trivago doesn’t give accurate room descriptions and that they were fully booked and there were no 2 beds rooms available. If one became available the next morning they would call me but they never did. She never gave me a receipt as to what I was charged for and what I paid even though I asked for it. The bn xt morning I asked for a receipt but all they gave me was my reservation info. The first night was very loud. My room was right next to the train and all night I heard the trains passing by. The a.c stopped working. We left in the morning and didn’t get back till later that night and the a.c was not on again.Because there is no overnight staff, I texted the emergency number to let them know that the a.c was broken but no response. The next morning I let the front desk know that it was broken and I had to let them know 3 times that it wasn’t working. The night that I had to check out, Noemi was at the front desk. I asked her to give me a receipt of what I paid for and she gave me someone else’s receipt and I had to ask again for my receipt. When she finally gave it to me I noticed that at the front desk there is a paper stating that there is a amenities fee of $49.94 +tax and a $20 reservation fee ( no tax is on that). I asked her why she was charging me so much money if the notice shows that I should’ve only been charged $175.92 for the amenities for 3 nights and $60 for the 3 nights of the reservation fee. She said the computer could’ve made a mistake and I asked how much my total refund would be since they overcharged me. She gave me a paper saying it would only be $46 and that when I check out in the morning the other amount should be given back. I needed more clarity and as

My girlfriend and I booked a stay at The Chicago Collection – North based on the amenities and descriptions advertised on the hotel’s website. Unfortunately, our experience was nothing like what was presented online. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed that multiple amenities listed on the website were either unavailable or did not exist at all. The property did not resemble what was marketed, and this was extremely disappointing given that we chose this hotel specifically because of what was advertised. When we raised our concerns with the front desk, the service was dismissive, unhelpful, and unprofessional. There was no attempt to resolve the situation, offer alternatives, or acknowledge the misleading information. Because of this, we made the decision not to stay even one night and left the property immediately. Despite never occupying the room, management is now refusing to issue a refund, which feels unreasonable given that the booking was based on inaccurate information and we departed right away. I would strongly advise future guests to verify everything independently before booking, as the online listings do not reflect the actual experience. We are still hoping management will do the right thing and resolve this fairly.

I booked the Chicago Collection Hotel – River North based on the photos, amenities, and descriptions online, and what I arrived to was nothing close to what was advertised. First, the false advertising is blatant. The rooms and common areas look polished and modern online, but in reality it’s college dorm . Several promised amenities were either unavailable, or not offered at all, with no advance notice. If you’re choosing this hotel based on what you see online, be prepared for disappointment. The inconvenience factor was constant. From check-in issues to unhelpful communication, everything felt disorganized and dismissive. Staff offered little accountability or solutions when concerns were raised, making it clear guest experience is not a priority here. Instead of feeling welcomed, I felt like an inconvenience for expecting basic service. For a hotel charging premium River North prices, this level of experience is unacceptable. There was no effort to compensate or acknowledge the inconvenience, which only added to the frustration. This hotel relies heavily on branding and location to justify its pricing, but fails to deliver on quality, honesty, or service. I would not stay here again and strongly recommend travelers look elsewhere unless you enjoy overpaying for unmet expectations.
