If you booked this hotel back when it was still the Quirk, cancel or modify your booking or you will be overcharged!!! I booked my stay at this hotel for my son's wedding back when it was the Quirk. At that time, I was quoted an average rate of $301/night for my 5 night stay. Expensive, yes, but Quirk had a reputation as an excellent boutique, full-service hotel and this was a special occasion. Fast forward 11 months, and I receive a text from the Doyle Hotel to start my virtual check-in. Turns out the Quirk was sold in April 2024 to Blue Suede Hospitality group and rebranded as the Doyle Hotel in July 2024. It is now essentially an Airbnb disguised as a hotel. They employ a very low staffing model, and all customer service requests have to be handled virtually. There is no servicing of the rooms without an additional charge, and when a request is made, there is virtually no communication between the virtual CSRs and the on-site staff. Commensurate with this no-service model, their published room rates are now significantly lower than when I originally booked my reservation with the Quirk (which was essentially a different hotel) almost a year earlier. Unfortunately, the new Doyle model requires you pay the entire bill upfront in order to access your room, and I was unaware of the changes until after arrival. Once I became aware of the significantly decreased service experience, I requested that my room rate be adjusted to reflect the current published full price rate for the room I had reserved. This was $112/night average less than what I was billed, which totaled $560 over my five night stay. The "team" absolutely refused to make any adjustment in the exorbitant 50% overcharge, even after finally acknowledging that they were employing a completely different service model than when I booked with the Quirk. Before getting to that point, I had to make three separate calls to the customer service “team”, always being promised to get a call back within a certain time frame and always having to reach back out to them when I never received a call back. Their only concession was to provide me with one “complimentary” servicing of my room (a $60 value). I won't reiterate the complaints already mentioned by other reviewers (impersonal vibe, lower than expected cleanliness and lack of security) except to say that that was my experience as well. I have been traveling for nearly 40 years, and this is the WORST customer service I have ever experienced from a business in the hospitality industry. I could have overlooked the total lack of service if I had that expectation at the time of booking AND I was paying a room rate that was adjusted for that, but it was a real slap in the face to not only be treated so shabbily but also be required to pay 50% above market rates for the privilege! This was just a variation on the classic bait and switch scam—I booked what was advertised as a full service, high end hotel and received an Airbnb instead

With two children at UVA, we’ve stayed at The Quirk on multiple occasions. Unfortunately over the years we’ve witnessed significant deterioration with both the rooms as well as staff with each sale of the hotel. On this particular occasion, we made a reservation for graduation weekend only because of the hotel’s proximity to campus. Sadly the AC in our Deluxe King ($729 per night) was not working..something that was confirmed by maintenance twice. When I brought this to the front desk’s attention the response was baffling. I didn’t get an apology, just a confirmation that the room’s AC is frequently on the fritz, and we’ll be moved when a room is available. Fortunately we were moved Sunday afternoon, however when we used the bathroom sink, the drain was completely clogged. So another call to maintenance. The last and final was a call I received from the front desk on Monday questioning why my luggage was still in the room. After explaining I had another reservation for the next 24 hours, they didn’t apologize, just acknowledged they had failed to read the notes.

Cain was amazing! We were on a Bach weekend and he made us feel so welcomed and recommended places for us to visit!! We love Quirk hotel because of Cain and his hospitality and his hospitality, we love his sunglasses and his vibe. Hotel would not be the same without Cain.

Hotel is clean, pleasant, cafe is lovely with a good range of breakfast. Gym is well equipped. Lots of interesting artworks. Loved Tuesday night live band, and Thursday night Salsa dancing on the roof top. Location is excellent. We enjoyed our stay.

My family stayed at the newly named Doyle hotel (used to be called Quirk Hotel) on a Saturday night. Based on the great reviews, we were excited to try it out. It’s in a convenient location near the Downtown mall and has an updated and quirky/modern interior. However, if you would like a good night’s sleep, which is my main priority, I would avoid this hotel on a weekend night! There is a new rooftop bar and restaurant which blasts loud music. We were staying on the 4th floor and we heard the bass thumping right above us until 12:45 am. Desperate to get sleep, I walked down to the hotel lobby twice and complained. They said they would call the bar to turn down the music. It made no difference. When I rode the elevator, there were always young twenty somethings in party clothes. If you are planning to stay out late, this hotel would be fine, but it doesn’t work for middle aged people with kids who go to bed at 10 pm.

This is no longer a hotel, it is more an Airbnb. There is no one at the front desk. There is valet, but it is not consistent. My husband hated that you needed a code for the front door to the property and all the rooms were a keyless entry bad. He had difficulty getting in our room and there was no one property to help him. The parking lot was down the street in a parking lot that was next to the train tracks, weeded over, and had no lights. The side walk to the parking lot was a death trap. It is really sad this property went this way because the room was very nice.

We were long time patrons of Quirk, which became our home away from home in CVille over the years. We got word of the brand change in early July. We figured we'd keep our reservation and give the new brand the old college try. Welp, the old college try doesn't always work out. We were there about 45 days after the 6/30 changeover and there was still Quirk signage all over the place. As others have reported, there was no phone in the room. And, if you wanted to "call downstairs", it was a number for an area code way far away from the 434. The common areas were just plain dirty. I'd see the same stuff on the floor in the hallways two days in a row. The Roku TV was an absolute nightmare. We wanted to watch the local CVille news like we always do. We got the local news on Roku all right-in scores of cities outside of Virginia. We gave up on the TV and relied on Hulu on our IPads. The front desk/concierge? An Elvis sighting was more likely. The morning after we checked in, the body wash dispenser ran out. Elvis had apparently left the building because lo and behold, someone was at the front desk! We told them of our problem and it was never addressed. Thank the Lord we always travel with bath soap. The cool Quirk lobby bar is a husk of its former self. If you had gone to dinner on the Mall or West Main, the lobby bar was a nice low key place to get an after diner drink. Rest in Peace, lobby bar. The fate of the rooftop bar is even a worse tragedy. The Quirk rooftop bar was a "happening" but low key/understated rooftop bar in the vein of the rooftop bars in Asheville (God help them now). Now, it's a "Tiki bar" complete with open shirted male bartenders and servers. PUL-EEZE, this is the foothills of the Blue Ridge, not the Jersey Shore! And, in a City with some great local breweries, wines and spirts, not a single CVille area selection on the drink menu. I hope the new owners can right the ship. The location is super and the rooms retain their Quirk ambiance (other than the Godforsaken Roku TVs. The jury will definitely be out.....probably for a long while.

We stayed at the Doyle for Labor Day weekend to attend a friend's wedding nearby. The price and onsite dining and design really appealed to us. It was a challenging stay, but not the worst we have had. Everything they do is virtual and there is rarely visible staff onsite, which we didn't think much of at the time of booking. When it came time to check in, we received texts and emails explaining how the process works and giving us a to do list. It wasn't a very welcoming vibe. We felt like we were all of a sudden doing someone else's job. Scanning drivers licenses, filling out forms on our phones, etc. Valet is the same. We arrived and they immediately wanted our phone number and full details. Add that to the seemingly endless texts about tips and having to access some online portal to access the vehicle, even when we were standing at the valet stand. That is all fine and good. We are young and managed it easily enough. But it really takes away from any feeling of hospitality whatsoever. There was never a smiling face or a real person available to field questions or fulfill simple requests. You have to enter a chat feature to do anything. The 2 issues that really define the the stay for us were a request for a refilled bathroom amenity and the overall feeling of security. I entered the chat and asked for additional tissue and they responded right away and said it would be taken care of. It never showed up. We ended up taking some from the lobby bathroom after waiting an entire afternoon and overnight. The security aspect is not something I ever considered or noticed at traditional hotels. We were free to walk in the front door off the street, get on the elevator and go directly to our door without any keycards or security or staff watching the facility. That is unsafe. And if it isn't unsafe, it at least creates an unsafe feeling for guests. This facility functions exactly like an airbnb. Contactless, difficult to ask questions, and you do all the work. But the price is good and the hotel facilities are nice. The rooms are decorated beautifully, but towels, bed linens, etc. are bottom of the barrel across the board. I'm glad we tried it, but will not pursue booking a hotel like this one again.

This is the former Quirk hotel. It was bought out by another company in July. The new Doyle bears no resemblance to the past Quirk. We stayed at both…Quirk was amazing, Doyle is boring. Gone are the nice areas, there was a gift shop-gone! The room was nice enough & quiet BUT there is no phone! It is as if they want no contact with you after you pay for your room. We loved Quirk, would not consider staying at the Doyle in the future.
