The Rocks Motel ★★★★
Charleville Waltzing Matilda Motor Inn ★★★
Charleville Motel ★★★
"the restaurant was closed; the phone in the room didn't work and no apologies were offered; no filter on the water so we had to boil it before drinking; staff were unfriendly and were downright hostile when i suggested a 10am checkout instead of 9.30am. One good thing was free broadband but password offered grudgingly and i was told "if you can't figure it out don't ask us"; ants in the room"
Mulga Country Motor Inn ★★★
"The room and bed was comfortable. The only real downside was my room was in the front row so had afternoon sun and the aircon hadn’t been turned on prior to my arrival so the room was hot initially. Couldn’t use the pool so that was disappointing. I’d highly recommend the Warrego Yacht Club for dinner. The food was amazing. Great breakfast across the road at the roadhouse. It would be great if there were some plates and cutlery in the room to access for eating take out. Reception was never open."
Cattle Camp Hotel ★★
"My husband and I frequently travel through Outback Queensland and we stopped for a night in Charleville. We booked one night at the Cattle Camp Hotel and spoke to the very friendly and helpful Karen over the phone. Normally we read the reviews first but made the mistake and read them after we booked. All the reviews were bad, bad,bad but we decided to go in have a drink and check it out for ourselves. The minute we opened the door to the public bar and hadn’t even stepped into the bar we were greeted by Tahlia the barmaid with a big smile and hello which made us feel welcome and comfortable immediately. The two fellas sitting at the bar also greeted us and we soon worked out one of them was the infamous publican. After a few drinks we decided to go for a feed at the Corones Hotel. Big mistake! The drinks were expensive and it was the worst food ever so hightailed it back to the Cattle Camp. Ended up having a great chat with the publican who was nothing like the reviews make him out to be. Sure he would be a hard taskmaster with his staff and Im sure wouldnt suffer fools lightly. As we left the bar he gave me a stubbie cooler as a gift. All in all a great cosy pub with great big clean and reasonably priced rooms. We understand there will be a new owner taking over soon and hopefully Tahlia will stay on as she is a great asset to the pub. Will definitely stay here again on our way through. Don’t listen to the other reviews and find out for yourselves, it’s a great pub."
Hotel Corones ★★★
"Hotel Corones is an atmospheric old style hotel dating from the 1920s. It is possible to take a tour organised via Rachel’s Clothing Rack or the Visitor Information Centre to understand more of its history. We didn’t but we did look at the display rooms with photos etc. and just enjoyed the ambience. We had access to balcony from our room and enjoyed sitting on long wide balcony overlooking the street. We took a room on first floor with a private bathroom. It was all wood, wooden floors, wooden bed and furniture except for two plastic stools. The small old fashioned wardrobe dresser provides hanging space. There were four pillows and one blanket but the reverse split cycle air conditioner was silent and we kept warm. There was a small wall mounted TV, microwave, mini-fridge (with milk and water), kettle and bowls, plates, cups, glasses and cutlery for two as well as coffee, tea, sugar and small biscuits. There is no wifi, no bedside lights and limited power points. (Part of staying in a historic building). Bug spray was supplied but we didn’t need it. The bathroom has good ventilation. The shower recess has a shower curtain and hand held shower with wall mounted dispensers of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. More dispensers of hand soap, hand and body lotion and shaving cream were by the sink with large wall mirror and space for toiletry kits and extra storage. Good water pressure. There was a sign to say that the town water is from the Artesian Basin. In winter the cold water tap is cold, the hot water tap is hot but in summer the hot water tap is cold and the cold water tap is hot. Ours had no label so we used trial and error. Hot water tap starts cold while cold water tap starts and stays lukewarm. Part of the fun. It is easy to explore the town from here and it is located next to a bottle shop and laundry but you’ll need a car to go to the observatory. Street parking is available in front of the hotel and we needed to carry our luggage up stairs. If reception is unattended you go to bar staff service area to checkin. A bit noisy in the hallways with guests arriving later or leaving earlier. Restaurant and bar on-site with breakfast available at the Paris Cafe next door from 5am."
