We visited for a birthday celebration with good friends. The Good The venue was delightful, on a river and the tables are nicely separated and all have a lovely view over the river. Directions were good and there was ample parking. The Bad As drinks arrived the waiter stumbled and drenched a patron with iced water. No towel was provided, no apology by management, no replacement serviettes, and the cushion was only replaced after request. After this initial drinks round, we were not offered refreshment of drinks orders again. The live saxophonist was a nice touch but the volume was so high we couldn’t talk freely. The Ugly 1. The welcome bread was served with a single bowl of soup for the table in place of butter. This created hygiene problems with all of us wanting to dip. 2. The food took 90 mins after ordering, and one meal arrived a further ten mins later 3. When our orders arrived, both lamb chops orders were dry and over-cooked, the sirloin steak special was tough, and the humus side was actually tahini in a bowl. The prawn curry portion was 150ml, the sides were mixed up, the deserts arrived over a ten minute period, the Dom Pedro’s order had no vanilla ice cream so we were offered chocolate ice cream as a replacement. 4. The costs of the main courses were around R320-R360 each. All in all a disappointing afternoon at a picturesque view. At least we were in lovely company with friends.
