We thought this Hotel was excellent in every way. The bedroom and bathroom were very spacious, light and beautifully furnished. Breakfast was superb, great choice and excellent quality. The staff were extremely friendly, and the adjoining pub, part of the Hotel, had a great atmosphere. In addition to all this the Hotel was cheaper than previous ones we had stayed in, in the same county which were nowhere near as good. The Hotel represented great value for money.

Room was dusty , and in need of a deep clean in places.shower water pressure was very poor. The meal in the restaurant in the evening was very good, but paradoxically the worst full English breakfast I’ve ever had. Everything was well overdone. Staff were really good, especially Chloe, very friendly and efficient.

Nice room ,comfortable, well set out. Good atmosphere in bar and restaurant, nice food, freshly cooked, well presented, the haggis with leek and cheese very good,belly pork nicely crispy, good breakfast nice selection offered. Plenty of parking, would happily stay again if in the area.

Wanted a place to break the journey to Scotland. Found String of Horses on google that was available. Wow! What a find, an old Inn in a rural area outside Carlisle that has kept its rustic charm, low ceiling with wooden beams, wood fires etc but modern beneath the facade. The room was great, very comfortable with a great en-suite with bath and shower. The food was amazing, restuarant quality. Staff were lovely, Sam the perfect host. If it was close by we would go and stay for weekend breaks.

In general the accommodation was OK. However, when I booked a twin room, the beds were as follows, 1 large double and 2 folding coaches. The folding coaches were not very comfortable, and the one needed was not made up on our arrival. The bathroom was very nice, however the water pressure for the shower was very poor. Also to be noted, there are steep stairs going up to the rooms. The room was a good size and decorated nicely. Breakfast was nice, and staff friendly.

Just had the most lovely meal here. Amazing sirloin steak and my partner had the steak pie. It was all delicious! Staff were brilliant - so polite, friendly and professional . This place is a hidden gem! We live locally and can’t believe we’ve not been here to eat before… so pleased we’ve tried it and we will be back!

What an unexpected pleasure. Room 4 was large and very comfortable. Bar was full of atmosphere with fires burning. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast was also very good. Sam who runs the place was very attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. I highly recommend.

Stopping here on the way to Edinburgh from London just had a really nice meal. It's a proper pub full of locals which is nice. But the restaurant is a cut above your usual pub grub. My partner had the pie and I had hotpot neither disappointed and the good fresh well cooked veg made it great.

From the warmest welcome by Sam to a clean cosy room to wonderful food, we had a lovely one night stay here, will definitely come back next time we are in this area. The hotel was lovely and clean and the bed really comfortable which meant a great nights sleep followed by a good breakfast we were sad to leave.
