A friendly welcoming guesthouse with clean & comfortable rooms. Breakfast, which was ordered in advance by filling in a form the previous evening, was beautifully cooked and exactly what we wanted. Location was perfect for us to be able to walk to the cathedral and explore the city centre.

Stayed here for two nights in September, really impressed all around - by the welcome when we arrived to the perfeclty sized room and very spacious bathroom. Location is good for getting to the centre of Canterbury on foot but also easy for a quick getaway. Would highly recommend the breakfast options too - excellent stay all around.

I very recently returned from a further stay in the self-catering apartment. This may be my forth or even fifth visit - I'm starting to forget now. The apartment, as always, is extremely comfortable and a pleasure to stay in. Although it is an apartment, it doesn't feel like one. In my view, it is like staying in a detached property. There are no neighbours above or below and none adjoining on three sides. Even the fourth side has no direct neighbour. This is the entrance lobby to the apartment and not used by any other guest. The guest entrance is separate and across the way but it is extremely rare to hear any other guest. Everything in the apartment is of good quality and it has all you need for an enjoyable stay. The location is good too. Canterbury West train station is an easy walk away and the city itself has a lot to offer the visitor. From the bus and train stations, you can travel all over Kent and there are some great coastal and country walks available. I travel a lot and have a good amount of holidays now that I am retired and as a consequence, I stay in many hotels and guest houses. So far, the apartment at St Stephen's Guest House is far and away the best accommodation I have stayed in and it is always good to go back.

My daughter and I visited Canterbury for 4 days/4 nights in September and St. Stephens Guest House was our perfect home base for sightseeing in the city and beyond. We could walk to Enterprise, where I hired a car, which we used to visit Wingham Wildlife Park on one day and Kent Life on another. The walk into the city centre, through Abbots Mill Garden and around the Marlowe theatre is so delightful! We could pick up snacks for our excursions from nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket and have food delivered from nearby restaurants for dinner, which we ate in our spacious room. On our last day, we could easily walk to the train station, rolling our suitcases behind us, for our trip to London. We couldn’t ask for more accommodating hosts than Sandra and David Haining. I peppered them with questions before our trip and they were super-helpful in a number of ways to make our stay more comfortable once we were there. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to stay in Canterbury!

Lovely place, warm welcome, very clean and close to town center. Very practical triple room to accommodate the three of us. Safe car park. But most of all very kind and helpful host ! We will definitely come back!

If you want the advantage of home away from home, then this is the place. I stayed in the self-catering apartment and found it very quiet and at a good location (close to Canterbury West rail station and a Sainsburys grocery store). The kitchen is small but adequate for making your own meals. The bed was very comfortable and the communication with the owners was exceptional. Definitely a place I hope to stay at again.

I have recently returned from a further stay in the self-catering unit at St Stephens Guest House, in Canterbury. As before, all is very good. This being the quality of furnishings, bedding and just about everything in the unit. In a way, it is so good, it is like a home from home and that sort of thing is rare to find. The unit is also very quiet. No noisy neighbours to have to worry about. I am starting to visit Kent on a regular basis and the self-catering unit at St Stephens Guest House, is my first choice for accommodation, when visiting the area. One thing I like about Canterbury is that most of the centre of the city is pedestrianised or the traffic is restricted to a degree that you can walk about, with ease. Many people, I have noticed, simply walk on the roads, such is the low level of traffic in the centre. This makes for a very pleasant environment. There are many routes and quirky paths/river walks to take to get you where you want to go. This particularly useful if you want to walk to either Canterbury West or Canterbury East train stations, or even the bus station, all of which I used a great deal. I have no hesitation in recommending the Guest House, for people planning to visit and stay in Canterbury.

We stayed 2 nights in March, we were a little late in arriving but this didn't worry our lovely hosts. We settled in, ordered breakfast for the morning and went out for dinner. We were given a front door key so it didn't matter what time we came back. The rooms are clean and comfy - it was a little warm for me but that was soon sorted with each radiator having it's own control and a nice big window which opened. The hosts were welcoming and are still implementing COVID plan which was fine with us. It is an easy walk into town and with free parking on site, it is a great location. Would happily recommend to friends visiting Canterbury.
