Top rated hotels in Cajamarca

Wyndham Costa del Sol Cajamarca

I was excited to stay at. this hotel, immediately adjacent to the main cathedral in the main plaza of Cajamarca. However, I arrived tired and needing some rest from travels. When I booked via ******* I was unaware of ongoing renovations in the hotel. Currently the entire pool and hot tub, central courtyard and staircase are under renovation. This caused a constant level of noise throughout the hotel. On the last day, they painted or sealed something that also caused horrible toxic fumes to permeate the entire hotel. They gave me a nice room as far away from the work as possible, but it was impossible to escape the smells and the noise. PROS - Nice bed, great towels, and sheets. Helpful staff, especially the bellman Luis. CONS - Very low water pressure . Not surprising for a city with drought conditions but a fact. Poor food service at their restaurant Paprika, where I had both dinner and breakfast daily. In particular, I had a very unfortunate experience at their breakfast buffet. It finishes at 10am, and I arrived at 955 to grab a quick breakfast. However, when I arrived, they were already picking up the food items and they told me that ”I had only 5 minutes before it closed”. I replied in Spanish, ”exactly, I have 5 minutes”. That did not stop them from literally taking the food away from in front of me as I was trying to serve myself. I got in an argument with Jaiber who insisted that management wanted everything taken away by 10am, to which I replied that they need to give people warning and 5-10 mins to serve themselves if they arrive when the buffet is open. And I added that if they really want the buffet removed at 10am, they need to close the doors no later than 945! I insisted on being served some eggs and toast, which had run out and were being removed. After some yelling, they reluctantly agreed but it was a very bad experience and I will never go back. Overall, this is probably the best hotel in Cajamarca still, but they need to work on their customer service, and finish the noxious renovations. I will stay elsewhere next time because I loved the city and will return.
